@Rigo Nicely done here Rigo, just one small enquiry where exactly and how much exactly are we looking at for these types of devices/setups? SashimiPPC or a serial terminal I guess the prior is an actual device? and the latter is a choice of what one can use as a serial terminal. I don't mind purchasing something that is custom built to make the job more precise if not more user friendly. I'd prefer to do that than lug an entire system over just to do that. Since I will begin my own journey into the coding world eventually I will want to utilise this sort of thing myself thanks for any insights  btw Rigo, why not make this thread a link in your signature? Could have the link say 'don't bug me or others, read this first' or 'want to report a bug? avoid being squashed yourself read this first!'

@Valiant When I tried to do this (only because I wanted to try and redo the browser prefs) It told me codebench already existed and reccommended I remove it first The trouble I get in openurl is I can't open the preferences in prefs. It says something about unknown datatype. I tried to find out if openurl needed something but it doesn't appear too. Is this an OS4.1 oddity? and yes! looks VERY NICE Rigo where do we go to get the full deal?

heh just to clearify this one point, I used to have it set to 1460 then I noticed that Ranger reported the hardware mtu to be 1518. Do the maths But I think I will change it back before someone goes down the road; but hardware capabilities have nothing to do with the software limitations and this happens to be 1500. but again Cyborg, thanks for getting involved! just wish someone would get involved and help me with my utilitybase problem, I'm starting to think the Amiga community isn't as good as the old days. It's become too practical and too detached and I am paddling upstream with no paddle :-p

@doraemon okay, boot into a shell (no startup-sequence) type: type s:startup-sequence and start executing the commands line by line printed in the startup-sequence until you strike the one that causes the problem-start with the netinterface one if that is the last one you saw in that previous evaluation maybe somehow your monitor driver has become corrupt? or the tooltypes in the icon. very strange that IPrefs works? perhaps enter startup-sequence and reduce it to just have the bootloader, setpatch, iprefs loadwb and endcli do you get your proper workbench screen etc? I wish I was there

@cyborg I ain't the one having problems with my internet, strange as my configs seem the only thing I added was the 1478 (and that was just because I noticed someone had pointed it out, I thought why not, it was already set in Roadshowcontrol but perhaps something doesn't search those settings) so ask the wizard why it added the rest. also, you took the time to post so good on you, that's one point I use the mask of 255.0.0.0 because those are the settings I got from miami days auto config thing for my connection to my router from my A4000 classic ethernet and yes listen to olsen, he explains why 255.0.0.0 is the way to go I enjoy great speeds from the internet and download 10 files at a time with no problems... from what I can see you didn't say anything I already didn't mention @olsen nice sanity checks there

I just had a thought Slayer, does a lan need to forward an ip? ie are the other two cpus included in the lans settings to be exposed to the net...
does a lan have firewall rules? perhaps the lan is blocking etc...
a long shot ?
can you access the lans settings via html?

I agree I don't think anything in Roadshowcontrol is preventing the link, that was added for completeness and wondered if perhaps you'd tweak your settings if your speed wasn't good. Excuse my ignorance but is there any alternative out there besides KCon handler?
truely OS4.1 native would be my first choice
I installed this to catch my gcc information etc but it always GR when it exists... I remember I used to use CB handler in earlier versions of WB
All I want is something that can save out a buffer and perhaps a configurable buffer size (the default never seems to be enough)
Any ideas?
Perhaps it's time to look out for for a ansi c open source version of something

also, check the time sometimes if the clock is too far in the future (sometimes mine ends up being 2046) this prevents the workbench loading.
need to boot into a shell and reset and save the time to current time...
I think your problem is IPref though...
If once you ; out IPrefs and boot into the workbench screen...
turn off machine and remove your graphics card and clean the contacts etc and put it back in... just make sure all your cards are settled correctly...
I was going to say try another zorro slot when you put it back in but I believe you have a CybervisionPPC?
good luck... if you have continuing problems try and install another Graphics card to at least eliminate the graphics board being a problem

btw, just to help out with English, tommorrow refers to the next day (the future) and yesterday refers to the previous day (in the past)

A few days ago I was on UtilityBase as Slayer reading the messages as one does and then went into my profile to update a few particulars. Unwittingly while there I selected a new theme and saved it. Upon exiting and the new theme (or so I thought would be a new theme) loaded I was presented with an advertisement in the upper left hand corner. No matter what I do I cannot access the board, even old urls fail. I need my theme reset to default by an admin. Can someone help out here? either bring it up in a thread there or do you know an admin personally? I can't post as a guest and I can't create another account because the email address has been taken and the mail@utilitybase.com is not valid. I've tried other browsers also, what kind of theme is in that theme selection thing that would cause such a problem? weird I say. can someone please help out, I have a thread there I can't reply to for the last few days...
