ClipDown v2.4 (newest) - better async support and more!
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

New version 2.4 just uploaded to OS4Depot!
Input always welcome.

============================

Anyone intrested in doing some Beta testing of the next verision of CliipDown?
If your intrested PM me with your email address.

Changes:
Using the latest version of getvideo and MPlayer, YouTube streaming now
works properly!

Now supports parallel downloads, even while playing a video or viewing
files as long as you don't have "delete file" mode activated.

Added a "Save and Play with getvideo" menu item. (non-Async)

==========================

This thread is for feedback and tips on ClipDown V2.1 which has just been released to OS4Depot. The extensive guide file should answer most questions but feel free to ask me here.

Tip1:
Direct Play of newer (last 1-2 years?) YouTube videos will not play properly and cause ClipDown to appear hung. The addressing scheme for more recent YouTube videos has changed and it appeas they cannot be handled properly by "getvideo", which ClipDown uses. Be patient and eventually ClipDown will timeout and return control to the user.

Workaound:
Select "Save with getvideo" from the download menu and save the file to RAM: or your harddisk. Then play with MPlayer.

I'd like to hear feedback from users on this issue. Should I modify the "Auto Select" mode for YouTube to always download the video first and then play with MPlayer to aviod this problem?

Tip2:
ClipDown can be started from the command line with all options supported. Type "ClipDown -h" in the shell to view available options. This allows for usage in scripts or "spalshlauncher" (on OS4Depot) to start ClipDown on a given programs screen after you launch the program via the script.

Any feedback you have would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Mplayer april1 version cannot exit while playing streaming videos

@lazi
Anyway, could somebody else confirm that bug on his/her system?[/quote]

I can confirm the bug. In fact I'm now waiting for it to be fixed before releasing the next version of ClipDown. ClipDown 2.0 now plays video and audio files via Mplayer for URL's in the clipboard. The problem I'm having with the new MPlayer is it never returns after playing because MPlayer doesn't return. It works well with the previous version of MPlayer. As an aside, I also added the ability to play or save video's from sites such as YouTube via GetVideo. Unfortunatly at this time the newer YouTube videos need to be saved and can't be played directly.

@jahc

Please keep up the good work. I personally like my bookmarks in a seperate window as I can then keepit open on the left side of the screen and have easy access to choose and add links. Your approach fit my usage well. If it could be opened from the External Bookmarks menu item that would be perfect. I tend to have a lot of bookmarks and menues become unwieldy to use.

I have the same problem. I have 120G USB drive that I've formatted in FAT32 under XP with a program called Swiftknife or something like that. Anyway, I can read it fine on my uA1 but if I try to write to it sometimes it works fiine but eventually I'll end up with a scrambled disk which becomes unreadable.

I think it might be time for me to retire IBrowse if that could be done.

Here is what I already have implemented. I may release it soon if there is interest:

As of Version 2.0 ClipDown also supports playing direct links to audio and video files via streaming them with Mplayer. In addition, video files can be played from sites such as YouTube, MySpace, etc. via 'getvideo'.

An "Auto Action" capability has also been added and is now the default mode. When this mode is sleected 'ClipDown' will automatically decide to download the link, play a direct link, or play via 'getvideo' depenting on the URL and filename.

In "Auto Action" mode only the following video websites are supported as they are the most reliably working sites:

www.youtube.com (if video doesn't play properly use "Save with GetVideo" then try playing.)
vids.myspace.com
www.dailymotion.com
www.last.fm
www.guba.com/
www.amazon.com - Music (mp3 30 second clips) - Click play icon, cut URL, click "Auto Action"

(For other sites select the "Play with GetVideo" menu item.)

Version 2.0 supports playing of files with the following extensions via MPlayer:
(not all tested but they should work)

Video: .avi, .flv, .mpg, .mpeg, .mp4, .wmv, .mov, .divx, .xvid, .3ivx, .vob, .m4v, .asf, .nsv, .3gp, .3g2, .m2v

Audio: .mp3, .wav, .wma, .ogg, .mp2, .ac3, .m4a, .mka, .au, .aiff

That would be a nice addition...

Already done in the new unreleased version. It now shows the output of wget in a shell window, which includes a download progress indicator. This also allow for the use of Ctrl+C to abort downloads. The shell window can be moved to the back if it bothers some people.

It's not so much that people don't give feedback as it is that people were still complaining about wanting a download hack in OWB even after solutions, by me and others have been offered to tide us over until such time as proper download is added to OWB.

But if it can use getvideo to download videos from facebook, youtube etc maybe you will more people interested. But then if its too much work maybe dont work on it.

Actually these additions were already done before the first version of ClipDown was available.
I just wanted to test it more before releasing it.

I really didn't intent to hijack the thread so let's take further discussion of ClipDown here

Have tried to download from a link in OS4depot.
Just get this error.

Item in clipboard is not supported protocol.

Must be HTTP or FTP protocal.

(HTTPS: not currently supported.)

Ok, if your getting this far than I assume you have wget installed already.

It sounds to me like what you are doing is highlighting the link then using Right Amgia+C to copy the highlighted item into the clipboard, then clicking download. That will result in the error you are getting unless what you are highlighting is an actual http: or ftp: URL.

What you need to do is move the mouse over the link you want to download, Press the middle or right mouse button (depending on how you have OWB configured) and select "Copy link to clipboard" from the menu. Then click on ClickDown's download button and it will work, assuming the link points to a valid http: or ftp: URL.

If you still get this message could you post the link you are trying to download or PM it to me and I'll check it out.

If there are problems I'd like to fix them.

By the way, if you get errors like this then you can use the "Tools/View Clipped Item" (or something like that) menu item to see exactly what it's trying to download.

Thanks for the feedback!

Why doesn't EVERYBODY use clipdown.

Not to hi-jack the tread but as the developer of ClipDown I do get pretty frustrated when I hear people asking for hacks to OWB for download capability.

Has anyone besides Swoop tried it?

When I originally wrote it I also added other features like the ability to download or play YouTube, myspace, etc. videos via getvideo, the ability to play direct links to audio and video files via MPlayer and an auto mode to detect the type of link and either play or download. I haven't released these features because I wanted to use it for a while to test it out.

Given the lack of use of ClipDown, at least judging from the continued asking for download hacks for OWB I'm wondering if I should bother.

So I don't end up hi-jacking this tread, if anyone has any feedback please start a new thread.

By the way, thanks Swoop for your feedback and support.

ClipDown doesn't support JS links either. How do you find the file link from a JS link?

Adding an ugly hack like Andrea did in the OWB Blastoise port would be very easy, but I wont do that in the current version, either I'll implement the downloads correctly (incl. the missing DownloadDelegate, etc. methods), or not at all.

I agree with Joerg that it should be implemented properly. but OWB does really need downloading to be my daily browser, that's why I wrote ClipDown. I makes it easy to download. Just use the popup menu to copy the link in to the clipboard, or hightlight the URL and press Right-Amiga+C then click the ClipDown button and it will download. Works great for me and has turned OWB into my main browser with Joerg recent additions.

So now, it is possible to download more than one file ?

Not exactly. If the URL points to an individual file you can still only download a single file at a time. If the URL points to a web page it will automatically download the page, all the graphics, and depending on the mode selected, the pages and graphics to render the pages that the original page links to.

For example, if the URL in the clipboard is www.amigians.net, For the different setting you will get the following when you download:

File / Page no imgaes:
Just the html text for the page is downloaded. When you
view the page you will see all the text formatted correctly but no graphics.

Full Page with images --> Directories:
The html text an the graphics will be downloaded. When you view this page and it's graphics will be displayed but none of the links will work unless your connected to the internet. The downloaded files are stored in a directory structure that mirrors the one on amigans.net,

Full Page with inages --> No Directories:
Does the same as above but stores the downloaded files in a single directory instead of mirroring the amgains.net directory.

Site Copy 1 Level Deep:
Copies the page and graphics as above but also copies the pages and graphics that all the links on the page point to.
When you view this you will see the amigans.net page and the links on the page will all work locally and render the full page and graphics it links to. The links on the linked page will not work locally though. Care should be taken when using this mode as a lot of data could end up being downloaded and if you do it to much to an individual site the site maintainers might not like you to much.

ClipDown v1.2 released on OS4Depot - Adds new modes for downloading.
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

ClipDown will download any valid HTTP: or FTP: URL to your local drive. It's designed to make downloading from OWB easy but can be used stand alone. Version v1.2 had just been uploaded to OS4Depot.

Version 1.2 adds the ability to slect four different download modes via a new menu..
The following download modes are now available:

1. Download Files / Pages with no images. (Original operation)

2. Download Full Page including images with directory structure mirrored locally.

3. Downlaod Full Page including images into a single directory.

4. Download Full Page including all pages and images linked up to 1 level down. This allows getting a single page with all linked pages and graphics working locally.
(Caution should be used when using this mode as a lot of files could be downloaded.)

Ok, I took a look and it's as I expected. Since the resolution you were intrested in is not supported in the Video Size dropdown you must have edited the settings file and unfortunatly run into a defect I discovered but forgot to fix. I'll fix it in a future turn...someday. :|

The last lines in the setting file cannot be empty lines. If they are the program will crash when tring to read the settings file. The other problem with editing the file is that if you try to use settings not supported by the chooser then they will be set to the last item and give you an error message. Bottom line it it's best not to edit the settings files directly. Here is the recommended way to use your own custom settings:

I've designed the interface so if the default setting is used there is no commnad issued to ffmpeg. This allow you to override the settings using the "Enter additional commands" field. For all items in the GUI I've included the ffmpeg option in the hint text so you can easily see the command option. (Note that some of the check boxes don't have a hint due to a bug in the development system. Try looking at the hint in the gadget next to them.) Anyway, by looking at the hint you can get the command so just leave the particular setting at it's default and enter the option command and settings in the "additional commands" area.

So, to set a custome size like you want to do:

Leave the "Size" setting at "No Change" then enter
-s 320x160 into the additional options area and press enter.

Once you have all the settings to your liking just save the settings and you can recall them anytime without problems.

The documentation explains this in the first part of the "usage" section but it's not spelled out as clear as I did here. I don't like writing documentation any more that you guy like reading it. :)

The bottom line is there should be no reason to edit the settings files manually as everything you can do by editing the file can be done through the GUI interface.

Hope this helps.

Yes, until I new the settings would work I only created files for the iPod screens. Thanks for suppling hte info on the iTouch. I'll add some new settings files and at some point probably add iPod/iTouch support to the built in Settings Menu.
Quote:

Tha's not so good! I assume you changed the settings in the GUI and tried to save the setup? If you edited the file by hand in an editor instead I discovered a bug that might cause this problem. I'll have a look at it tonight. Thanks!

Need Help: ffmpegGUI users with iPods or PSP
Quite a regular

With the new version of ffmpeg it should now be possible to generate video's and audio that work with iPods, iTouch, iPhone and PSP devices.

In ffmpegGUI v2.1 I have included some pre-defined setups in the Settings/Predefined Setups/Video draw which should produce video's compatable the these devices. Unfortunatly I don't have these devices to test with. Could someone with these devices give it a try and let me know if they work?

Note that depending on your device and generation, iTunes may not recognize the video files produced because it checks for a certian signature in the file. In this case it might be necessary to us a program other than iTunes to load the file to your iPod/iTouch/iPhone. If you can get them on the device they should play fine. I hope.

The following pre-defined setups are supplied:

Movie-->iPod_standard_screen.ffmp
Movie-->iPod_wide_screen.ffmp
Movie-->PSP_standard_screen.ffmp
Movie-->PSP_wide_screen.ffmp

You can name your movie by replacing the text in the quotes after the -title option in the ffmpegGUI "Enter additional options" string gadget. If that doesn't work try removing the -title option all togather but leave the other options.

I appreciate any feedback.
