@orgin

WOW another update so quickly?

Very nice. Just out of curiousity, I was wondering if there is a tooltype option available in OWB 2.12 to use my regular Workbench pointer like OWB 2.11 does right now.

Thanks,

Re: E-UAE Crashing with OS4.1

@BillE

For me, E-UAE was crashing on launch while it was reading the config file.

I followed the advice of salass00 in post #87 of that thread ...

Quote:

Here it does that only if I run it by doubleclicking on the uae icon and "Start from:" on the uae icon is set to "Shell". Modifying "Start from:" to "Workbench" fixes this.

Stack size 32768.

I am using E-UAE 0.8.29-WIP3-SDL.

Nothing fancy, I'm emulating a 68000 CPU and using AmigaOS 3.1 ROM and AmigaOS3.1. My Workbench is a drawer in my E-UAE drawer on my hard drive. Using the same config file I have used since OS4 update 4.

@LiveForIt

I installed AmigaOS 4.1 last night. First change was to add the "Run >nil:" command in front of addinterface, because I use DHCP with my router.

Works like a charm now.

OWB2.8 rocks !!

Thanks Joerg. The problem I had posting replies to news items on amigaworld is now fixed with this version of OWB. Now I can type my post, then click in the little box that says "Preview" and I see two choices "Preview" and "Post Comment". I can select "Post Comment" and click the "Go!" button and works as I would expect. Not sure if you call that a cycle gadget or a drop-down but it works just fine. Thanks also for the iconify feature.

Many thanks,

@ZeroG

No matter what ancient incantations or curses I utter, I cannot make it happen using the method you described.

I have tried many combinations of [ctrl] [alt] [shift] [left windows key] and holding down the left mouse button and using the down arrow. Eventually, if I click outside the box, the message in the box changes from "Preview" to "Post Comment" and I can click the Go! button to send my post.

However I cannot get it to happen twice in a row using the same sequence of keystrokes and clicks.

The only saving grace is that I can now copy from the message window and fire up AWeb or IBrowse and paste in the message window there. AWeb has a drop-down type select gadget. IBrowse has the circular type cycle gadget. In any case, these old browsers know what to do.

For me, this is the only remaining stumbling block I have with OWB at this time. Most of the web sites I visit work perfectly fine. I can post to the normal forums at amiga.org and amigaworld.net and amigans.net. In fact I was using OWB 2.6 and 2.7 almost exclusively until I stumbled across this problem posting to news items or replying to posts to news items. I know I have encountered this problem before in the past with one of the older versions but the sequence of clicks and keystrokes I used with the older version does not work with OWB 2.6 or OWB 2,7.

@joerg

I post fairly often over at amigaworld. Tonight I came across something that I have encountered before, but thought it had been fixed.

I was trying to post a reply to a comment made about a news item. It the bottom of the text form there is a dropdown where you select Preview or Post Comment and click the Go! button.

How do I select "Post Comment".

After several unsuccessful attempts, I tried OWB 2.6 and got the same results.

Finally used AWeb.

@Chris

I downloaded Netsurf this morning and using it a bit today. I was quite disappointed when I tried amigaworld.net but you already know about that one. Anyways, amigans.net and an online comic site called sherman's lagoon work just fine. Also some photo sites I visit seem to be fine as well.

Netsurf seems to be quite fast on my machine, MicroA1 with OS4 July 2007 Update. Nice first beta release.

@joerg

I'm using OWB for the first time since the end of June when my old hard drive died. At that time I was using OWB 1.24. Just installed OWB 2.5 about an hour ago and I'm using the SObjs files from a previous version. So far so good, although it seems to slow down normal Workbench activities if OWB is running.

Anyways, thumbs up. Thanks for all your work on this web browser. All the sites I normally visit are working fine so far.

Thanks,

Not addressing the case with OWB specifically, but generally speaking, if you choose to ignore DSI errors, you risk running into system instability.

I'll keep that in mind. Usually I reset the machine after I get any kind of GR. Been there many times before during the last few years. This was just a "what if I just hit the ignore button and carry on" senario and I was able to reproduce the results.

@joerg

So far I like many of the features of OWB 1.24.

One thing I've noticed is that if the webpage is longer than the OWB window and I scroll down to view some more of the webpage, then hit the back button or go to another webpage, the old one shifts down momentarily before the window updates. This is especially noticable if the window has a photo. The photo moves just before the window updates to the previous webpage or next webpage.

Demo ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorola_88000

Go to this webpage.
Click on photo of CPU to enlarge the photo.
Scroll down part way so the top of the photo is cutoff by the top of the OWB window.
Hit back button to go back to previous webpage.

On my machine, the bottom part of the photo drops down, then the window updates to the previous webpage.

With OWB 1.18, I see the window clear (can't remember if it goes white or black) before it updates to the previous webpage.

It is a minor thing, but it caught me off guard until I realized what was happening. It happens in v1.21 as well.

@Valiant / joerg

Not sure if this is the same thing, but I encountered some weird stuff tonight.

If I get a GR showing DSI error, and hit ignore button, the next program I run acts weird.

For example, Final Writer 97 gets stuck while loading and comes up with a strange message in a requester. Another example, Partiion Wizzard comes up listing the a1 parallel port or a1 serial port (instead of disk partiitions) and then hangs. I have to reset the machine to get it back to normal.

I'm not sure if this happened with v 1.18 because I usually reset the machine if I got any kind of GR from any program.

BTW, I always get a GR showing DSI error if I launch OWB and quit before I visit a website. Maybe its related to having no "home page".
Tooltype = (HOME=http://amigans.net/)

OWB installation questions ... [solved]
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

In the past I have downloaded some (but not all) newer versions of OWB as they became available. Usually I keep an older version and try out the newer one for a few days, then blow away the older version once I'm satisfied with the new one.

I've been using OWB version 1.18 for a long time. Recently I tried version 1.21 and today I tried version 1.24. I still have version 1.18 installed just in case the newer ones don't work out. Version 1.24 seems to be a keeper, so I have deleted version 1.21.

This method seems to work ok, but I was wondering if I should do some further cleanup.

Right now I have libgcc.so sitting in my OWBv1.18 directory, and my OWBv.1.24 directory, and my SObjs directory.

Will this cause me any grief or should I get rid of some copies of this file?

BTW, I left all the files that came with version 1.24 in my OWBv1.24 directory.

Is there anything I should add that may be missing between version 1.18 and version 1.24. ?
