@PEB

Yay!! Thanks. That change did the trick. It's nice to have well organized bookmarks available again.

Happy New Year.

@thread

This was reported back with version 3.21:

Quote:
And another minor bug:
After I submit a post to a forum here at Amigans.net, OWB returns to the forum messages with my message at the top of the window. The OWB window scrollbar is stuck at that current position. If I drag the scrollbar or click above/below the scrollbar slider it pops back to the same position. If I move the scrollbar with the middle mouse scroll button, it returns to functioning normally.

Still does this in 3.22, and the scroll button still corrects it.

Re: PEB's OWBAddressBook

@PEB

The behavior is changed now, but still persists.

I can now change the prefs to have the Quiucklinks not open up. That change will save, I can close the AddressBook and then reopen the Address book again using the key combination or menu.

But as soon as I try to resize/move the Address Book window using the "dummy" resize window, I get the exact message as noted above as soon as I click on OK.

So it seems the problem is related to the window resizing.

PEB's OWBAddressBook [SOLVED]
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

@Raziel and Peb

Sorry for cross posting this to a new thread, but I thought the old OWB 3.21 thread wouldn't get a lot of attention anymore with 3.22 out. And this really isn't so much an issue with OWB anyway.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I finally got around to doing a cut and paste with your ABPrefs file. When I brought up prefs and tried to change the window location, this is the warning I got: (now with OWB3.22)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hollywood Player

Cannot read beyond end of file
File: Main.hws (current lineL 69 - In funtion: ReadLine)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

At least with your prefs, the quick links don't come up, so when I click away the error message, I don't have the quick links window blocking my browswer window.

(OK, I just opened SimpleMail to send a copy of this off to PEB, and the program is locked after the error in the AddressBook execution.)

Next suggestion? Thanks

Paul

I assume you have downloaded and extracted the AB file only and copied it over to your install?
That is what gave me those errors.

At first, yes. But what I'm reporting now has been with a fresh full "install" of the entire directory from PEB. The first attempt at changing the prefs was to simply have the quick links box not show. When I try to save the prefs after changing that, I get the errors.

What errors do you get btw?

I sent this to PEB again by private mail. I must have mis-sent the original to his normal email account.

-----------------------------------------------------------
In latest OWB320, I can't get your address book working. As
soon as I try to set any prefs, I get:

???? File: Main.hws (current line: 70 - In function:
???? ReadLine)

in a console window. On other occassions, once this prefs
error has occurred, when I try to run OWB AddressBook, it
says something about:

??? Cannot read beyond end of file.

Is that enough to tell you what's going on?
-------------------------------------------------------------

Does that sound like what you were getting, Raziel? My note said OWB 3.20, but it's doing the same thing with 3.21 also. This is with a freshly downloaded and extracted address book file.

@samo79

Is anyone here still using PEB's bookmark utility with OWB? I'm getting error messages which won't let it run here, and haven't heard back from PEB yet.

@samo79

Got it and tried it last night. Once again, great work by Joerg.

Something had been going on with 3.20 that left the left side of the display at Amigans.net way too wide. Now it's normal again.

re: new directories:
maybe it was just to stop the requester asking to assign databases to somewhere, every time the program is run sometime after a reboot? I put cookies.db and *.db (I know there was another one, but I'm away from the Miggy now, and can't remember the name) in the database directory and changed the tooltype in the info listing.

THe only thing different is the icons on the icon bar at top. It was available separately not long ago. I put it in already with 3.20, and like the subtle changes.

@Antique

"Oh Rejoice, All Christians, Loudly"

The words reflect the origin of the holiday, and the music by Andreas Hammerschmidt (1611-1675) is just cool!

I know, I know, lots of people celebrate a holiday this season which has nothing to do with Jesus. More power to 'em! I don't begrudge anyone their fun or family gatherings. This is one of the songs I grew up with and loved.

A greatly improved CrossDOS couldn't hurt matters either.

But I have a 2 GB PNY and a smaller SanDisk and both work extremely well with my A1, though I think both have gotten corrupted once in the Amiga over the course of a couple years.

Read SYS:Documentation/Intuition/NewControls to find some nice things like dragging windows by clicking anywhere in it or resizing them from all 4 corners/sides.

That advice ought to be a sticky banner item on the site!

For a long time I've had my own drawer in the System partition for storing docs from various utilities and programs. I had never even noticed that it now had a lot more info in it!

Unfortunately with this OWB screen self-resizing problem, the OWB window becomes EXTREMELY sluggish to move. Sometimes it simply doesn't respond to the attempt to move it. I think this problem went away for me back with 3.15. Maybe I should just go back to that for a while.

@ssolie

re: stop the rumor now

I understand why you say that, given the current development schedule/strategy.

But at the same time, that's regrettable. It looks like I'm going to be getting a new phone soon, and I'm very tempted to get a Motorola Droid, strictly from the viewpoint of it's larger screen size for my bad eyes. From what I've read it looks like Android OS relies heavily on a derivative of Java and a derived JVM.

Not that I have the skills to write software, mind you. But it would be really nice if there could be development started already on letting our Amiga's work together with Android. I see that while it has a modified Linux kernel, it has dropped X-windows in favor of OpenGL, and works with a Webkit browser.

Hmmmm, that sounds familiar!

Re: OWB 3.17

@joerg

OWB has gone back to resizing it's window to extend way past the edge of the screen. This happens especially when multi-tabs are open, but sometimes even with only one tab.

Once this has happened it is very difficult to grab the window and move it so I can resize it back down again. (the window gadgets are way off beyondd view once this happens. )

There was similar behavior earlier when tabs were first introduced. I'll try disabling tabs and see what happens.

Paul

(the word wrapping propblem is very evident as I write this on screen. I'll see what happens when I post it as is.)

Thanks for the continuing work!

Swoop has proven me wrong with one model of HP. But when I've looked into the market in the past (purchased a Konica-Minolta Magicolor 2450 and now a Xerox 6180 DN), MOST of the HP's I looked at at the time of those purchases actually came with a software emulation of Postscript which shipped in the printer box via a CD. "Windoze Only" for THAT kind of Postscript!

Both the Minolta and the Xerox have worked well, connected to the A1 via the LAN using ethernet.
