@Hans

It is OS4 native, but it does require X11, I agree that X11 is a beast, but I think it better to have programs ported to OS4, then not at all, I hope one day we have version of GTK1.1/GTK2 that do not require X-Windows (X11).

Native means it starts from AmigaOS, and it has access to system resources that is started on, Cygnix programs have access to Exec.library, dos.library and every thing else, they are just as native as every thing else, but they have dependencies to software packages that are ported from Linux like GTK, GTK needs a X11 server, as a result we get little more then we asked for really.

to reduce the number of drivers required to be supported

I think we need more drivers for USB and PCI, we need more printer drivers as well, we do not need less drivers, what we need is more developers and bigger funds.

We do not really need investors, what we do need is hardware and software partners, we need AmigaOS to sell to every one some how, we need a selling point some wow factor, or maybe AmigaOS can be used for some special tasks.

I still believe that AA or DE or whatever they call it could be helpful in sustaining and growing the market if they would port it and make it native to the OS\hardware

I agree, because if other operating system adapted it then the software generated will automatically benefit the AmigaOS4 market, but because AmigaDE/AA aim at PDA and PocketPC and not desktop operating systems, so it not where likely we seen software like Open Office coming soon for AmigaDE/AA.

Quote:
So that older software could be ported to it (and thus run on other systems) which would allow users of other operating system to use the software and get a taste,

Firstly older software are often close sourced, and if not it?s often written in 680x0 Assembler, Blitz Basic or Amiga E, as AmigaDE is no hardware emulator, the so called older software needs a major rewrite. UAE has proven it self to be better for classic applications.

Quote:
Whilst also providing a migration path

AmigaDE/AA do not provide a migration path it?s because it doesn?t use any Amiga API, that means if your going to recompile AmigaAA/DE program to AmigaOS4 it need a major rewrite, just like any GNU linux programs needs.

This way AmigaDE/AA is nothing more then generic runtime environment just like JavaVM or Flash macromedia player or real player.

All of this runtime environments (JavaVM, Real Player, Flash Player, AmigaDE) will benefit AmigaOS4 because they enable more software to work, All of this runtime environments (JavaVM, Real Player, Flash Player, AmigaDE) will do badly in promoting AmigaOS as user experience.

for them where they don?t have to go out and purchase all new software.

That doesn?t sound where profitable if you ask me.

Not really, but in case you did not know, you can copy Amiga Input from OS4 update 4, and it will work just as well on OS4 final update.

@abalaban

If you use CreateNewProc() to make parallel threads, the global variables will be global, so you can simply change a global variable when your done.

Just keep in mind that CreateNewProc() is designed to take function pointer as start address, not address in side a function, local variables will be local for ever proc, so you do not need worry about that.

If you need to handle global variables as local, then you most make copy, you can pass the address of the copy as agreement to the CreateNewProc().

This can be done by making a structure that contains all variables, this way you only need pass one pointer to the address, of the copys.

@Raziel

I think it might be possible if one patched the loadseg() function in ExecSG to forward execution of 68k program, I have not looked inn to this, but I think it is possible.

I don?t really mind starting E-UAE when like to play old game, but E-UAE is so slow compared whit OS4 JIT execution, and this way really like to see some great improvements in the chipset emulators for OS4.

I have few feature requests for E-UAE,

1. Proper screen integration whit the host OS.
2. support for OS4 block devices as hard-drives in E-UAE
3. 680x0 to PPC JIT emulation in E-UAE

Don?t mind an updated SDK and version of OS4 for the PowerUP users, but I don?t mind Hyperion and co taking a few weeks weal deserved vacation, just don?t make it a year

But on the hardware side I like some good news, anyone working on some hardware for OS4?

Yes.. Provided you have all the chipset emulation need for the game, games that can be started from workbench should be able to run, if they do not contain any bugs.

I do not think WHDload games will work.
