Thanks for the link.

There is some indication some are interested in AmigaOS4 in Norway.

Re: New hardware from Amiga.inc

@GregS

I have nothing agents having AA running on AmigaOS4, but to call that AmigaOS5 is just silly if you ask me,

@Dirk-B

Having AmigaOS4 recompiled for VP/AA if ever done will just complete silly if ask me, AmigaOS needs to be native to be efficient, and I don?t think you can have PowerPC binary compatibility on top of VP/AA anyway nor do AA provide the necessary memory protection and SMP features that AmigaOS needs in the future, AA is just binary converter that can convert VP code to native code, and at same time provide some basic functions to access the host throw some kind of predefined API like Ami2D, it has been commented that AmigaDE/AA has next to nothing in conmen whit AmigaOS API or OS infrastructure.

@All

What ever that is going to run on this new PowerPC computers is going to be AmigaOS4, there is no other option.

@Abalaban and RWO

I think I go for interface then, sound like I can extend that easier if needed.

Now I have found and clamed right to the USB web cam?

But I have yet to do any thing whit, I?m trying to find out some thing about I2C it?s written every where in Linux driver, now I need write some that works the same way as the Linux driver do.

I think it?s useless to speculate, and think they have at least solved some major problems, now let?s hope the hardware vendors can deliver on there contracts some quality products for AmigaOS4 community, hopefully some thing that will put any troll to shame.

Now I looked at USB stack of OS4, read the developers document at OS4Depot, I can say that USB development is bit complicated, there is quite few thing you need to do, find and take control over USB device, it should be doable anyway.

I did not really understand what difference between, interface based USB device VS Function based USB device, and they looked pity match the same to me.

Communicating whit the devices look easy, just simple IO read and write operations using DoIO().

As for rewriting the Linux Quick Cam driver, I don?t really know amount of work need to rewrite it, it think it going to mostly done from ground up the because it looks like its big difference how Linux kernels works, in general and OS4 USB stack.

It would be funny if emulation on a fast x86 will eventually beat a dedicated PPC mobo like SAM

You easily beat the SAM emulating a old 68k program, but consider this test do not include 3D graphics tests.

And AmigaOS3.x emulated on WinUAE to do not have proper access to hardware; this excludes proper support for UBS devices, PCI cards like TV cards and so on.

Whit WinUAE limited to 2 MB of chip ram, and that sticks rat?s ass for many classic applications.

Your WinUAE require you to boot your Windows first, real Amiga computers boots whit seconds.

And you do not get the memory protection.

You do not have ?Grim Rapier? on a classic OS, when you play around older programs they often contains bugs, you will not notice this bugs, and there risk your work be lost.

On WinUAE you will not get ABIWorld and Gimp.

Oh yes I know you can use windows programs but don?t you think that kills the point of AmigaOS running in the first place?

Re: AmiKit Benchmarks

@hotrod

I don?t think you can trust the results being correct.

Because AmigaOS4 behaves differently when it comes to timing, many classic programs contain bugs, they will not read the timer devices as documented, players like Eagleplayers and 303tracker will run too fast under OS4.

1ST: problem: The eclockval structure consists of two long words, but older programs often do there calculation based on static number of tics/sec, or just one of the tow long words.

2EN: problem is JIT often generates some overhead, when generating code, the test routines might not give optimal results.

3RD: Interpreted emulation is way slower then native.

4TH: The application might be using CIA chips, and under OS4 the CIA chips are emulated using ciagent prog, this might not give 100% accurate results.

Re: Amiga.com has a new look

@magic

The web site looks better, and like that they at least try to promote Amiga OS 4,

They do not say a lot about there partners that?s a shame, I think.

There is no information about new hardware partners it?s a shame.

There no promotion of Amiga OS 4 software, hope they do some thing about that
(At least cover the most basics, like office programs, music and video and internet browsers)

They should also try selling Amiga OS 4 software from where website, like for example IBrowse and Audio Evolution.

@Mikey_C

Maybe a better way to fix this to improve the interface of OS4Depot, so project is organized by developers.

The current interface do not allow more then one developer to be listed for etch uploaded file.

@Mawrick

Progdir: volume is always the directory that program is started from, and you should never need to assign it to anything, Maybe it where already assigned manual by accident to some thing wrong?

Most likely you have tow installers in your system, one old 68k version, and one PPC native installer, I don?t know way it worked for you when using shell.

@Lio

Sound like your having a DMA problem, what type of AmigaOne do you have?

Maybe you have an IRQ conflict maybe you can do some thing about it, check uboot and IRQ trigger levels as well.

I did have lots of problems whit DMA and my CDR so I disabled it, as for TCP/IP and DMA on my harddrive connected to VIA686b I have no problem, but I have modified motherboard whit the DMA fix, did it my self infect
