Time to Resubscribe to Amiga Future

In the last few days I got my copy of Amiga Future's first English edition (in Virginia, USA). It really looks good and one can see how much work the guys must have put into it. Andreas & Company: THANK YOU! The other reason for the topic: APC&TCP needs to place their print order for the next edition at the start of this week. Apparently, a lot of the transfered Total Amiga subscriptions expired with issue 67. That leaves APC&TCP in a bind guessing how many copies to make of the next issue. So if you want to support the development and publication of an English Amiga magazine, can I suggest you all go to their website and sign up! http://www.amigafuture.de/indexe.htmlAgain, thanks Andreas and company! @Billsey

heh... I think AmigaInc's behavior stands for itself - no assistance from me is necessary:
--- Rather than take the costlier/riskier route of moving the "Classic Amiga" forward, they dropped the "Classic Amiga" like a hot potato and tried to pawn someone else's unrelated technology off as the new "Amiga".
--- When they failed to pay their employees and were losing in the courtroom, they claimed insolvency.
--- When it looked like they might loose their assets, they shielded them by selling the assets to what turned out to be themselves.
I was willing to give AmigaInc the benefit of a doubt for their financial failings in the dot.com bust... I can appreciate the idea of making a quantum leap with the Amiga "spirit"... I was even willing to give McEwen some room for his claims of involvement in OS4... I understand the perils of their gamble and the nature of marketing...
But now where does AmigaInc stand? They have created next to nothing in seven years. What little they did do is dependent on a bankrupt company. Their greatest feat appears to be their shell game of dodging creditors and legal judgements.
And now as a third party has managed to take the technology THEY DUMPED and move it beyond AmigaInc's wildest dreams, AmigaInc's response has been to pull the questionable legal grab we are now watching.
As I said, I think AmigaInc's behavior stands for itself... furthermore, it is reasonable to question whatever version of story/claims the McEwen cabal might happen to be peddling today.
---Was McEwen the CEO or not? ---Was AmigaInc Isolvent or not? ---Itec & KMOS are one or not? ---Were the Amiga rights sold or not?
And so I'll restate: *I* would like to see proof the Itec of June 20th, 2007 has any connection to the 2003 Itec LLC that prevously said they SOLD the Amiga rights to KMOS.

@Billsey
I wasn't referring to Kouri Capital or anything predating our legal shell game. And I suggest that Itec and KMOS presented themselves as separate entities (in spite of secretly sharing the same principals/funding).
This shell game would appear to be supported by the contemporary statements that KMOS was 'aquiring' the AmigaOS rights from Itec (Fall'03).
Did they or didn't they make the sale?
Let's say they didn't (as they now seem to claim), then wouldn't Itec now have to avoid the issue of insolvency between then and now? My point would be: if Itec ceased to exist between 2003 and now, wouldn't the rights (they now claim) have fully reverted to Hyperion?
It would seem that if Itec's LLC was allowed to lapse or they failed in their annual state/federal reporting, either would be reasonable proof of their insolvency.

heh... Send in the zombies? Does this mean that Hyperion's last shot at Ainc was such a body blow, that Ainc had to resurrect the dead Itec? Seems kinda desperate and sloppy on Ainc's part. So if Itec wants to claim to be an operating continuation of the 2003 Itec, shouldn't it be possible to find continuous tax returns, corporate registrations, etc for the last 4 years? Or might Itec also be demonstrated to also be insolvent - again forgoing rights to Hyperion? hmmm.... PJS

@Slash
Hi, just curious how things are going with Epistula. From what little time I've been able to spend with the demo, it has looked impressive.
Your efforts on file transfers sound great! Do you think it will work with AIM too?
Thanks!

Hey guys,
I've got a G4 XE, in it I have a (the original from SoftHut) 64MB ATI 7000 amongst other IDE & SCSI cards.
The PCIScan line is:
0x1002 0x5159 ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV100 QY [Radeon 7000/VE]
The Radeon Monitor's active tooltype are:
INTERRUPT=No CMPLENGTH=6 FAKENATIVEMODES=No VSYNCMIN=60 VSYNCMAX=85 HSYNCMIN=31500 HSYNCMAX=64000 MODE=640x480@85 MODE=800x600@75 MODE=1024x768@72 MODE=1280x1024@60
All in all, it's been working great (even the occassional 3D). Hope this helps.

@pjs
First, regarding MakeCD... I did check the settings... looks as though it didn't do so well with "0" (max speed) set. I changed it to "8" drammatically improved burn speed. This may have to do with the fact that I don't have my A1's transfer speeds maxed-out (trying to max-out reliability).
As for the drive, it's a LiteOn LTR-52246S CD burning drive (52x 24x 52x speeds). I've had it from the outset, used it with MakeCD as well as the OS4's own burn facilities consistently. With MakeCD, the "test burn" function has consistently worked.
So I have my doubts it's the drive... somehow FryingPan doesn't appear to be using Test mode.
re: FryingPan's Test Mode - the online docs refer to a mythical set of buttons that are supposed to be in the interface to enable/disable Test mode. They are *not* present in v.1.2.3. While damn pretty, a lot is not as it is in the documentation. Maybe the ommissions have something to do with the failures?
At this rate, I can't say that I'm terribly excited about registering to see it "enable writing"... It already **IS** writing and failing at doing so.
Ferry, sorry about the problem with your burns... Not even getting a regular CD to burn, I doubt I have any insight.
Thanks,
PJS

@jahc Yeah, I've been using the ISO Builder page throughout, to no avail. I'm just amazed there isn't more control, configuration or something available to get this thing working. Dissappointing. PJS

Well, I tried FP once again... apparently ruined another CD... I tried selecting "Masterize Disk" (WTF is that supposed to mean?) and that made no difference... created another coaster. As for the non-registered version only test writing... I have no idea what to make of that... there is *NO* control over FP's test writing (contrary to the online docs)... and it is definately writing to the drive. I gotta say, it's pretty frustrating with this software is frying useless disks. And I want to buy some new burning software, I'd just like to see it work. :-/ FWIW, I did also just try the newly free MasterCD. It took something like 2hrs to test & burn 500 MBs to a disk. Not very impressive. Where is MasterISO when we NEED it? PJS

Hey guys,
I need to burn a few CDs of data for a exAmigan and thought I'd give the acclaimed Frying Pan a try.
So I read everything I could find on the website, marvelled at its pretty interface and figured I'd see how it works... my PayPal payment was ready to go!
It recognized a blank CD-R in my A1's LiteOn burner, it let me add a directory of files in the "Tracks" page and presented me with a "Write" button on the "Write" page. I clicked "Close Disk" (we are supposed to close disks, right???) and hit "Write".
Things started whirring, lights lighting and progress bars progressing... so far so good... After (long) while, a CD with visibly written tracks popped out.
I resinserted the disk in the A1 and nothing. I stuck the disk in my Mac, it asked if I wanted to format it. I rebooted the A1 with the CD in the drive and UBoot said it was an Amiga formatted disk (huh??!!) and wouldn't boot from my hard dive.
So what's the deal? I found no docs to help me with this - the "Write" and "Burning Disks" pages on the website are blank.
And the only old docs I could find say the unregistered FP doesn't burn disks (only test burns them) and yet the "Write" button was active and the disk had something burned.
Can anyone tell me what the secret is to getting a successful result from FryingPan?
Thanks,
PJS

First off, let me add my appreciation for the work put into TuneNet!
There is one thing I noticed recently: TuneNet could really use the ability to sort the playlist by DATE. The need arises if one is trying to play a CD's worth of MP3's. Without such a search, entries are not loaded in the order of the CD but Alphabetical.
I'd appreciate it. And thanks again, Paul!

Hi All,
A minor graphical quibble here... While the home pqage is looking great, could the recent topics page please be improved with some background colors, etc?
Right now it just comes up with the default page color (tan?) and with no shading, topic by topic. Maybe the individual topics could get the alternating white/tan (table?) fills one sees on the home page's topics list?
Thanks,
PJS

@crumb Your work on Basilisk sounds great... Sorry your 4000's illness got in the way. I would be very interested in testing it out on my A1. Please let me know if you'd like another betatester! Otherwise, it would be great if you could post a progress snapshot to OS4Depot. For many years. I ran Shapeshifter with various productivity apps (CAD, Word, etc) demanded for work. I think folks underestimate the possible productivity crutch classic Mac emulations offer (particularly a PPC Mac) till we get new Amiga productivity apps. Ever take a look at Sheepshaver? Without a 68k emulator, might it be an easier(?) "next step"? Thanks! PJS

@Sister Rita
No info on dates.
FWIW, I know better than to ask for hard dates from developers. I know these guys are all working hard on projects with no money (and little promise of future mountains of money).
Under real world conditions and those limitations, schedules are the first thing to slip.
But look at the flip side, even MicroSloth blew their schedules by what? Two Years? And they had a bajillion times the resources to plow into a substantially sloppier target.
c'est la vie,

@All The information presented in that table is simply what I boiled down from all the PUBLIC information I could find. Some of it is even confirmed with some of the hardware developers. I have attempted to present no whatsoever claims regarding licensing - that's for the developers and Amiga Inc to announce. The table just reflects the announced intent of these developers to run Amiga OS and (even) to get licenses. @tonyw Geez... I'm sorry for the Troika typo... Looks like there's my first revision for an upcoming v1.4 of the table! @RomanceClip No proprietary information is divulged in this table. Thanks all, PJS

Hi guys, Over the last few months a number of pieces of hardware have been proposed and/or shown for use with OS4. I have compiled all the information I could find into a (Work In Progress) Table of Comparison, which should be attached to this post. I hope this helps in seeing what is/might be coming soon and how things stack up with each other. Please let me know if you have any suggestions, modifications, more information, etc. Thanks, PJS AOS4-NewHardware-v13.pdf
