Re: My Wish List, what's yours?

@Mikey_C

1. A web browser that supports CSS and other new web stuff
2. ArtEffect OS4
3. New OS4 SDK

Oh, and a new version of U-Boot that doesn't try to reset my non-existant PS/2 keyboard seven thousand times before deciding to give up.

Re: Who Can Write a New Program? (I'm looking for someone to do it)

@Atheist

Depending on what sort of encryption you need, if it can be done through an external program, PGP is probably the best bet here. If extreme paranoia security isn't key, then one of the XPK along with a (user-selectable) encryption library would probably suffice (hmm, except that won't be very portable to other OS).

I don't think AmiSSL can be used because it needs to negotiate with a SSL-capable server - it can't do local encryption (AFAIK anyway)

"Same". It's the wordy way of putting a double-quote type symbol underneath something you want to indicate is the same as the above in a table.

My explaining skills aren't up to much today.

@Antique

I think I picked it up by reading the AutoDocs (for bsdsocket - it's in the OS4 SDK) and a bit of trial and error.

The BSD Sockets API is pretty much universal, so any example TCP/IP code or information you find is likely to be relevant.

@TetiSoft

Also, the only replacement sound.datatypes I can find are numbered v41 and v44 (the latter is the one on OS4depot which post-dates OS4).

I've never heard of it - what does it do?

Can't you use identify.library or the stuff in exec.library?

@TetiSoft

Some extension in OS3.9, whereas the OS4 version is based on OS3.5 sources?

If not that, then probably somebody being forgetful

@TetiSoft

Why is animation.datatype still v44, even though it is PPC native code?
animation.datatype 44.25 (21/11/2006)

Also, if you check utilitybase, it looks like the 24-bit animation issue might be a bug in MultiView.

Re: HP LaserJet

@tonyw

Personally I use the HP_LaserJet_4 driver for PCL5e. I'm never quite sure about the other models (especially the very generic HP_LaserJet variety), but the LJ4 driver works great with my LJ1015.

edit I've just taken a look at the datasheet, and it looks like you may be out of luck. The LJ1022 isn't PCL5e compatible:

From the datasheet:
Languages and fonts: Host-based printing

ie. this is a "dumb" printer that you will probably never see an Amiga driver for.

edit 2 Hmm, although linuxprinting.org says it is PCL5e.. but it doesn't work with USB1.1.

Either way it is probably best to choose a different printer!

August onwards please.

Preferably after any release of new OS4 hardware as well, but obviously that's a moving target.

@Beeblebrox

The plan is to do the bare minimum of C, and concentrate on the AmigaOS API. There are enough resources on C for people to learn or expand on that elsewhere.

I've uploaded release 4.17 to OS4Depot - this fixes the crash on exit, the odd infrequent crash during updating and the crash that occurs if you attempt to put in a blank ICAO code.

Sounds like it. Intuition certainly supports more than 60 chars in the screen titlebar, so it's a WB/IPrefs problem.

Re: Feature Requests for TuneNet

@Raziel

The titlebar has a character limit which tends to end before the bar fills up, probably due to proportional width fonts.

I've not tried it under Final, but I always used to have problems trying to put information on the right-hand side of the title bar - if you spaced it too far over, you would lose the end even though there was more space available.

@Pierre55

If you quit, restart and update it, does it update or is it still stuck on the old data?

If it doesn't update, the data on the server probably isn't getting updated as regulary as it should.

If it does update, it is probably a bug in Wet.

What site code are you getting data from?

Re: Own up... who broke the UK locale?

@BillE

Quote:
Yes but how many applications use Locale to use distances in miles or kilometers ? Most applications used on a computer deal with inches or cm.

Wet does.. that's where I noticed it. It treats MS_BRITISH as the weird mixed system we use, MS_ISO is fully metric and MS_AMERICAN and MS_IMPERIAL are both fully olde worlde.

I can break things down here so that eg. temperatures are in Celsius, long distances are in miles and short distances are in metres. Of course, that is worthless if the UK locale is telling me to only use metric units.
