Re: Future of Picasso96 and AHI?

@Raziel

P96 which is in OS4 has been completely ported to PPC and it's gone through a lot of changes since the last 68k version of P96.

However, as with all other RTG systems, P96 sits on top of the original gfx subsystem of AmigaOS (graphics.library) patching some of its functions, and the 3D subsystem is also a seperate entity and the way these are interfaced is really awkward, which is because the original Amiga graphic subsystem was not being developed further when these 3rd party systems were made (Warp3D, P96), so they had do somehow hack these on top of the original AmigaOS graphic system, rather than these new functions being nicely integrated to provide a modern solution.

cpuinfo_docky.lha upload still pending?

Not too shy to talk

I uploaded the file cpuinfo_docky.lha but is still waiting in the uploads, yet it was uploaded before the hivelytracker archive which has been available for some time now. It's not a replacement to a previous file and I have not received any email regarding problems with the upload.

Please Advise.

I'd like to know as well what happened to those CPU modules Adam announced. He can't say that there are license issues with Amiga Inc. since you don't need a license for CPU modules.

But what would you upgrade a 750GX to? The new chip would have to be a pin-compatible to the 750GX.

I have no idea when they'll make an announcement.

Basically ACube can repair CPU modules by replacing the soldered CPUs on the board, but you can't solder a G4 CPU onto a G3 CPU board. Better wait for an official announcement from ACube though.

Indeed, it'd be even more important than using the native OS windows IMHO and probably less work too. Even Shapeshifter (the good old Mac emulator) let you copy-paste between Mac and Amiga apps so I'm sure it'd be doable for X11.

@cygnusEd

How difficult would it be to achieve copy-paste of text between X11 and Amiga apps? E.g. if I have an email and want to paste some text into a text editor inside X11 or want to copy a URL into a web browser running in X11.

@Mitch

I'm at work atm so I can't check it but maybe the main node is case sensetive and has to be 'Main' instead of 'MAIN' ? I recommend you to strip it down to a very simple, basic guide file, perhaps using this as a template: http://www.tgpd.fsnet.co.uk/tutorials ... /beginners/Amigaguide.htm
Then add stuff to it and try it occasionally to ensure that it still works.

Maybe the file is broken? Do other amigaguide documents work? If so, can you put the file up somewhere so we can have a look at it?

@Niolator

Yes, get a 9200 or 9250, they're more than enough for what's available now (Freespace, Quake3, Crisot demos, etc.) and IMHO it will take a couple of years after OS4.0 gets released for games to come which need more than that.

Not really a bug, but the preview of the random photo is encoded with too low quality:

Is it possible to change that to a bit higher?

But (always a but) it depends on the price.

It should be under 400? including OS4 IMO. Over 500?
is a disaster. 300? could help Amiga make a comeback.
This of course including VAT.

We probably won't see prices anywhere near 300?
though.. Around 550? including OS4 and VAT is more
probable.

IIRC Max Tretene (Soft3) said their target price is something like 400? including OS4 which is not bad for a start.

@Sister_Rita

You can create a forum topic asking for information about something, and hopefully one of the developers involved will see it and reply. The Friedens are registered here as well as many other people involved in the development of OS4, etc. But of course keep in mind that most developers are extremely busy with most of their time reserved for software development so they may not notice your question.

Re: AmigaOS4 support

Now that KingCON is being discussed... this is not a problem report, but a feature request:

I would really like to have an advanced shell, like MUICon on MorphOS. KingCON is nice, but often I have 3-4 shell windows open and it becomes quite an effort to shuffle them around, so there a nice tabbed feature like MUICon has would be very useful for me. This is one of the areas which are very well covered in MorphOS, but are lacking in OS4. Is anyone working on something like this, or has some spare time to do it?

Which KingCon version do you have? Also filesize and md5sum would help, maybe he has a different version.
