@Antique
There are some android FTP servers out there which you can try.
I had one that used to let me connect with AmiFTP and get/put files.
It had controls that would it activate whenever it saw my home wifi network, etc. Good stuff.
Unfortunately, the version that ran on my ancient phone stopped working. With a snazzy new Galaxy, you should have better luck?
Good luck!

Kryoflux software for AmigaOS?

Hi all, I was looking at the Kryoflux site and it looks like a pretty nice package for accessing and (maybe) retrieving things from our old floppy disks. http://www.kryoflux.com/Wandering the innertubes, it looks like maybe someone might have tried to port the Kryoflux software to AmigaOS4. Anyone know anything? Has there been any luck or progress? Thanks, PJS

Replying to myself.... but here's what I found... The devs repeat over and over that the "-sameq" argument didn't do what appeared to do, except by pure happenstance, so they removed it... or something like that. ;)
Instead, they suggest you should become an expert in video codecs and find/use only the arguments that suite the exact formats of video you are going to and from.
A bit beyond my desire.... ;)
Anyway, I did find the "-qscale" option with the "best" (1) setting seems to keep the quality of video conversions up.
For my purposes of converting YT .mp4 videos to .avi's, I'm finding this syntax yields high quality results that work well in DVPlayer:
ffmpeg -i ram:input.mp4 -qscale 1 ram:output.avi
OTOH, the files get rather large... ;)
Good luck,
PJS

FFMPeg Video Conversion Options?

Hi guys,
I updated to the new FFMPeg and noticed that my old command line for converting videos doesn't work anymore...
FFmpeg_ppc -sameq -i
I was under the impression it caused FFMpeg to keep the quality of the videos the same.
So now I get a message telling me to use a new argument...
FFmpeg_ppc -qscale 0 -i
But I'm now seeing much more grainy/chunky/blocky videos. Not good.
I'm still delving into the docs on FFMpeg.
I was wondering what you guys are using for converting Youtube vids to more Amiga-friendly (aka DVP-friendly) formats?
Thanks,
PJS

Well this last test seems to ice it... To me it doesn't appear to be the OS.
I booted off a 2010 backup that predates my use of the wifi card. I first tried to run the v2.4 driver and WirelessManager, but that crashed. Then I tried my older v1.7 driver and that connected fine. I connected to IRC and starting pinging my router...
I had roughly the same results: After about 30 minutes my SAM lost its connection. This time I was letting DHCP do all the config, so maybe the previous luck with that was a fluke?
This time I was gone when it crashed and the pinging ran longer than before. I found that the failed pinging changed its message from "no buffer space available" to "Host is down" after a while. I guess that must reflect Roadshow figuring out something is wrong?
Again, anyone have any more ideas?
Thanks,
PJS

heh... I did have Roadshow configured to use a fixed IP address. Figuring that maybe the router didn't like that with wifi, I changed to ordinary automatic DHCP and the SAM stayed online for almost an hour and a half.
progress?
The other thing I noticed was the type of response I've been getting from ping when I leave it running and the connection dies:
ping: send to: no buffer space available.
What buffer?
I guess I should try booting off a public system (4.1.5) to see if it makes any difference.
Thanks,
PJS

Hey guys,
I recently reinstalled my Amigakit wifi card in my SAM and I'm seeing it wont stay online for more than 30 minutes or so. The network connection just dies, no crashes, etc... a quick reboot brings everything back... for another ~30 minutes.
Anyone seen such a thing, have any thoughts on where to look or have any possible solutions?
Here are a bunch of specifics: my SAM440ep is running the latest beta system. It doesn't seem to matter if the connection is active (open IRC, SSH shell session and pinging the router). I started with the v1.7 driver and I got the same thing when I switched to the v2.4 driver. My SAM is just a few inches from my base station (right now) and the network is "open" - no WEP/WPA. My card's BIOS has not been updated (weren't able to get the update software working).
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Thanks!

Quote: Today I think about it again. I don't want to give money to Paypal and thus don't want to give money for a bounty. If I count the difference between the money transfered and what remains (only from the donations of this page), we lost next to 300 euros. It would have been a nice bounty amount @joerg & @elwood: I think you guys are ignoring that bank-to-bank transfers are rarely done by consumers in the US. Most banks charge a hefty fee for such things ($20 or more for international) and you have to go into the bank to do them. Do the math - you're talking about a 20+% expense on a $100 transfer. Compared to that, PayPal is a relative bargain and dramatically more convenient. Maybe Moneybookers/Skrill is a cheaper alternative, but their site is quite uninformative and contradictory on what services they even offer in the US. One place they say no credit cards in the US, other places yes. ???? Not confidence inspiring. Maybe there's someone more serious about this? Or maybe we just need to get over that transatlantic transfers between different financial worlds are a pain in the neck and costly? PJS

Doesn't AmiPDF already do this? When I open the Print window, my 2nd through 4th entries are different TurboPrint methods. Quote: It's possible to export pages as bitmap images? I think that a feature list is highly needed, or al least a link to a page with detailed description.
AmiPDF also does this already. Again, in the print window you can "print" all or parts of a PDF file to postscript, EPS, various JPEG and various PNG formats. Thanks, PJS

@thread
FWIW, I spent a bit of time doing some demos and surfing the net with OWB on a CSPPC/4000 at AmiWest last year.
I was shocked how well it ran (being used to my SAM & XE) and having an X1K on the other side of the demo table.
Frankly, memory (128MB RAM and ZorRAM) limitations seemed to be the biggest shortcoming of the 4000 running OS4.
So with sufficient, fast RAM, I'm cautiously hopeful with how the OS4 netbook experience will be.
Patiently awaiting... ;)

We would have no Sam, no netbook and definitely no x1000. No thankyou. We need to encourage people like Trevor and Acube, not stab them in the back.

Does the iPhone support USB MassStorage (i.e., appearing as a USB MassStorage device), like the android phones do?
I used to use an ancient ipod that did that and was generally able to copy files to/from with my AmigaOne & SAM.
But I understood Apple removed that functionality in later models to keep folks in the itunes ghetto.
good luck,

Last time I ran AmiCygnix in window mode it was perfectly usable. It's just that the colors were wrong - everything was pink-ish - and it's a bit slower then full screenmode.
IIRC, you can select the "picasso96pip" video driver in the myX11SetUp program and off it goes.
Good luck,

@maw2k Duh? --- Go to the site.... In OWB (OK... the site doesn't support an Amiga browser... I guess 68k users should take a leap or a peecee, whichever isn't worse?). http://amigamap.comClick "Global Map", get a world map. Select "US" in the pop-up, click "Select", get choices of OS's. Click "Show Map" on AmigaOS and get..... wait for it.... <tah dah> ...a page with NO map and the pop-up gadget appears to have gone back to "Show from All Countries". Let's say you go back to the initial page and start with another route... Go to the AmigaOS pop-up, select "US", click the "Select" button... Then I'm given the OS selection page (didn't I just select AmigaOS?? - whatever), click on the "Show on Map" button... It takes me to another page with NO map and "all countries". As I said.... Unreliable... I suggest that's being charitable. It seems there's some dodgy code behind that website. c'est la vie. PJS

Why so few entries?
Maybe because the site seems fairly unreliable?
It's been inconsistent whether it was able to show the country map and entries.
I was able to add an entry, login & update that entry... But little else... Haven't see a map of the US since and see now way to add more systems to my "account".

@Raziel
No proxy server.
Re; CPU & page loading - Since I've (very rarely) gotten the gear to work in the past, I've tried all sorts of timing with clicks - while loading, after loaded, from inactive window, multiple clicks, keyboard "clicking:. I didn't see any pattern of success.
hmmm... But I'm cautiously hopeful. I tried two changes: I'm spoofing as FF-3.6 and I turned off the "experimental" cookie system. After loading the page, when I CTRL-F5, then the gear button has worked.. twice. Once and again after restarting MUI-OWB.
I'll be curious if this holds up.
Thanks,

NUTS
Spoke too soon.... :/
I needed to reboot and I fired up MUI-OWB again and it all went back to not working... I tried the CTRL-F5 thing a number of times and it wouldn't get the "gear button" working ever again.
BTW, what is CTRL-F5 supposed to do?
I tried deleting the cookies.db file again and re-running MUI-OWB, but that did nothing (again).
So I decided to reinstall MUI-OWB from scratch to see whether that would fix things... Nope. CTRL-F5 again did not help.
That "gear button" remains generally dead... Except the once in a blue moon functionality.
Bummer.
