Re: DiscreetFX is evaluating toolkits for Aladdin 4D OS 4.0 version.

@DiscreetFX

different platforms need different guis. a "professional" application should use the default gui of the platform it runs on.

so this would be
reaction for os4
mui for mos
whatever for the other platforms.

take a look at pagestream. deron also handles it like that.
currently the os4 version uses mui as a start but later this will change to reaction.

just my 2 cents.

(btw - currently the reaction guis look much better than the mui guis on os4. this may change with mui4 which is not available at the moment)

He didn't say that either. You just can't seem to keep out of trouble with that whole jumping to conclusions problem. [just kidding]

look Raziels post or read rogues answer again.
some basic pieces seem to be in place already.

I didn't say that.

that's how i understood it. sorry if i was wrong. and nice to hear that something is done already!

As a matter of fact, I have done some work already. It's just not going as fast as I hoped because of other tasks.

We are not talking about "enhancements" but about total replacement.

that was a not so well wording from my side. with "enhancement" i meant an enhancement to the os in general (complete new graphic system) - not "only" the 3d part - sorry

What use is it to build a concrete skyscraper on top of a wooden shack? OpenGL rather belongs at the foundation of a graphics system, not on top of it, so that the graphics system can make use of OpenGL, not the other way around.

sure! i second that.

hope to see it "soon" ;)

is there a known problem?

There is a known bug with hardfiles which stops E-UAE quitting cleanly on AmigaOS. I have fixed this problem now, though, and am hoping to put out a new release very soon.

thanks! i found out that this has to do with the hdf file just yesterday. i have two problems left:
1. wip4 seems to be mor unstable if i copy a lot of files inside euae. it just locks the whole computer then. wip2 has no problems here
2. the s-bit stuff mentioned above drives me crazy ...

in the meantime i was able to install amigasys3+ by doing the following:

1. mount and boot the hdf file (system:) using wip2
2. also mount a filesystem (system2:)
3. copy ALL from system: to system2: (ALL CLONE)
this then results in a correct filesystem disk with the s-bit set as defined.
4. change the config and boot from the filesystem (wip2!)
5. do the installation through amigasys3+

only this worked here...

hi.

is there a known problem with the protection bits (especially "s") when using a filesystem partition insetad of an hdf file?

that is so strange...

e-UAE with sdl problem and amigasys3
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

hi.

just found out about the forum...
i already wrote this at amigaworld.net. so i post it here again.

i just tried to take a look at the latest amigasys3 archive and wanted to install it on my a1/os4/euae combo. (latest euae from evilrichs site)

1. strange sdl problem here
when starting euae i see the processor load go up to 100%. euae seems to run. but when i quit it using ctrl+alt+q the cpu load stays 100%. scout tells me that there still is the sdl task running.
is there a known problem?

2. concerning amigasys3
i installed it - at least i tried. but installing os3.9 does not work very well. trying to install the themes just makes euae lock. i commented the lines in the "installer" script file and it went on. but now i cannot boot it? strange. was somebody successfull here?

I'm happy to see that the development of the OpneGL library is continuing steady. OpenGL library are an essential part of an OS. Go on dudes

it was mentioned that a complete mesa port will be developed for os4 - including sort of a "warp3d wrapper" iirc.

can rogue maybe give a status update on that?
iirc this also needed a completely new developed graphics api underneath it?

i guess that the development of the classic version has slowed this down a little bit.

Hi,

Using the AHI Music Unit (which TuneNet has used since day 1) will block other apps that try to use AHI Device Mode. The upcoming release now gives you the option to use either Device or Music unit. So if you use the Device mode other apps can play at the same time..

stupid question from my side... but why supporting the "music unit" at all if it blocks other applications? this does not sound very multitasking or amiga like at all

Yes, well at least it works locally. I can't really test much more than that, so if it doesn't work from the production box, I'm at a loss.

I'll check it tommmorrow with some dummy accounts just to be sure

hmmm... so have you received my registration data (or any others)? i submitted it twice already.
