Of course he'll bother! If he waits for OS4 he might have a machine doing nothing for either months, or maybe forever! (depending on what the situation is internally.. but who knows whats going on!). EDIT: the above is speculation, if that wasn't clear already. :)
We took a punt on our machines, but lets actually use it in the meantime instead of waiting around.
Sounds like my PS3, but at least I can use AmigaOS 3.9 on that and it plays great movies too!

I doubt he'd pay that much for a high-tech paperweight!
What I'm curious about is if he'll bother putting Linux on it while he's waiting.
Of course, it's what I'm working on now. It's like deja vu all over again as it was when I got the A1.

@thread Received the case on Fri and assembled the components all together after work in the evening. Fired right up into U-Boot, but first I need to put a non-crappy monitor on the system to see what I'm doing.

OK, actually I've only received the board so far and am in the process of assembling the components to build the system. So far I've got I a Liteon 20X SATA DVD Writer and a Maxtor 300G SATA HD. I've also got an Antec NSK 1300 case/PSU on order which should be shipped this Monday. As soon as it arrives I'll put them all together and see what I've got.

When I try to use the file requester to select a CD track in AmigaAMP nothing shows up. I have to open the CD icon and drag'n'drop the file onto AmigaAMP for it to play. Any clues as to why the file requester isn't working?

It's a real HDD on a real Amiga. Does it need to be flagged bootable in MediaToolbox within the emulation? I tried flagging it in MediaToolbox on the real Amiga, but it didn't make any difference.

OS 4 for the classic would have been welcomed years ago. Not now. I doubt even half of the people with a BlizzardPPC or CyberstormPPC will actualy buy it.

Amiga Inc. might nor realize it but they are the SCO of the Amiga world.
I don't know about anyone else, but I intend to buy OS4 for my 3000T when it becomes available. If they even sell to just half of the Blizzards and Cyberstorms produced, they'll have done very well indeed. Even just 10% will probably double the number of OS4 users. And eventually something will be worked out where OS4 will be available to new hardware like the SAM.

If the ROM is truly damaged you can also obtain a new one, again, according to current acceptable terms.
Hi #6
You ready for this:
My A1 was offline because the LCD monitor was kaput! I got the new monitor replacement under warranty. While I waited for this to happen, I bought a Radeon 7000 GFX for backup and a Battery Holder from AmigaKit and installed that. When the monitor arrived and hooked-up, I bootedup to the UBoot prompt. I couldn't do a normal boot; BUS#0 would timeout.Offline for 30 days and new battery must of wiped the settings. My UBoot setting were saved on the USB stick and couldn't get to them. So, Uboot has a "restore lost settings", so I tried that and it wiped out everything. The system boots up now to a black screen and flashing cursor. What does it mean? I don't know. Perhaps Andria Velinatto might enlighten us on this?
I think it's "Restore Factory Default Settings" that you should try instead.
