Re: New CPU module for A1/uA1 from ACube System tested..

@afxgroup

Very nice.
I look forward to ACube confirming their plans for cpu modules.
It could be an interesting side line from them, especially if they are interchangable between XE's Micro's and any future highend products from ACube.
I have a good feeling that ACube can pull thing off where other companies recently have just released announcements or IRC logs.

Now would be the time for the Amiga Hardware companies to work together and define some standards for the like of CPU modules, FPGA's Geek ports etc.

Wonder if it will be possible to send off your existing cpu module to Acube and have it upgraded ?

Any plans for new modules for G3 owners.

Petetion to change Road Tax rules for Classic Cars **UK** Only
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

As you might or might not be aware a vehicle in the UK used to become a classic car / historic vehicle when it reached 25 years of age and therefore became exept from road tax duty.
However, the rules changed and a historic vehicle is a vehicle which was manufactured on / before 31 december 1972.

So esentially the government has put a stop to a vehicle ever becoming a historic vehicle if it is was manufactured on/after 1/jan/1973.

Please sign this petition and get friends to too if you feel it should be changed back to a rolling 25 years.

@aldur

You could use requestchoice command in your startup sequence which could copy a specific set of .prefs files to evnarc:sys

Or once workbench is up something like

Assign Assign: PathtoAssign: Remove

To get rid of your unwanted assigns

You could have for example two directories

Aldurprefs and AldurGFPrefs with the following files in for example.

GUI.prefs
Font.prefs
WBPattern.prefs
Palette.prefs
Workbench.prefs

Copy AldurPrefs/#?.prefs to env:sys QUIET to switch prefs.
The script could then have you new assigns in it.

Just a start perhaps for something you could expand on.

@Paul

Grab the excellent Play16 from aminet

http://www.aminet.net/mus/play/Play16.lha

add to you startup-sequence after loadwb

C:Run >nil: C:Play16 >nil: sys:Prefs/Presets/Sounds/YourSample.8SVX

The above assumes you have play16 in c: and startup sounds in sys:prefs/presets/sounds/

Mplayer and audio out of sync.

Not too shy to talk

I've finally just got round to installing the lastest mplayer (7/1/2007) which says it cured an audio sync problem.

Here when playing flv (youtube) videos the video lags behind the audio, however swapping back to the experimental #3 version puts the sync back. Is the new version slower ?

@Mason

Great work!!! Love these new look icons.

Any chance you could release a scaled 256 colour set for 3.9

I've spent the last few evening doing screengrabs of OS4 new style Icons. Loading into PPaint and saving as IFF Brushes. Then copying over to my 3.9 partition.

I've almost just about finished converting the OS4 sys: icons to 256 colour.

I'm surprised how good they look in 8bit.

I'll post up a grab of my 3.9 partition when its done.

Re: Amiga OS gets another mention!
Not too shy to talk

@xeron

I agree about the XE. However, my A1c was the flakiest Amiga I have even owned. Especially if you compared it to my earlybird XE.
I spent a small fortune trying to make it stable. RAM, Cases, Powersupplies, Sii card & Heat sinks.
It was always a clone of my XE in terms of the OS4 and both ran a G3 processor.

Yet I had pixel corruption as soon as it warmed up, video was blurry at best.
There where milling screw marks in the VGA cooler as if a fan was once fitted.
Lockups on data transfers for a board which supposidly had all the SE / XE flaws removed. In the end I had a replacement (addimitidly from the same batch) which had the same problems. Bobsons which came from the same batch also worked fine. I spent a lot of time on the phone with Bobson seeing if he could reproduce the problems I had.

To be honest I was glad to get rid of it in the end as it ended up on my desk at work gathering dust. It was supposed to be a replacement for my XE as I wanted a small footprint home computer.

Maybe I just had bad luck but the a1c's, I had not all I must stress, had terrible stability and I'm not alone as AWN has had numerous threads of blurry video etc. But on the other hands we read reports daily of a1c users (the majority) that don't have problems.

I strongly suspect from my own experiences of the a1c that late mk3 consumer prototypes and or demo boards made it out into the retail chain, maybe only a small percentage but bad boards got out there.

So it is possible to see why some say the things they do about PPC NG Amigas, but really they should only comment if they have had first had experience. I mean if i had not had an XE my opinion could be seriously different due to bad luck.

@tonyw

Likewise.

Serverin is a IBrowse Guru maybe he can comment if it is a known problem and if it will be patched ?

I tried changing codecs to 040 but that made no difference either.

Crashlogs available too.

I've had a bit of success by reducing the amount of ram available for the jpeg decoder and reducing the amount of connections to 4. But as you say the occassion crashes are still there.

Also having no default homepage helps with the startup too here.

@LiveForIt

Been down this road a few times myself. Taking battery out for a while then putting it back in is the only way to solve it (Flashing Cursor). I was told the reason once. Something to do with nvram contents being corrupt or failing a crc check.
