@Raziel

I did not get any sound skipping with the latest beta, which I got with older versions, usually in the intro videos of games.

@AmiDog

I'm one of those betatesters I don't have a lot of time these days to play, but I did try the latest beta a couple of months ago and I have to say it is fantastic, a huge improvement from the older versions. I can play Final Fantasy VII and even its intro now plays perfectly smooth, no pauses anymore. I really think it's time for a release ;)

@Rogue

While we're at the topic, what about Recoverable alerts? Whenever I get those my system becomes completely unstable and eventually freezes. Shouldn't we get rid of recoverable errors and bring up a GrimReaper as well in those cases? Then I could kill the program which gives the errors and the system could stay stable, but the user still has a choice to continue the program if he so wishes.

Actually, there's nothing stopping a program from loading its icon's tooltypes even when started from shell. DvPlayer loads the icon tooltypes when started from shell, although any shell arguments override what is set in the tooltypes for that particular setting.

The klesterjr one looks pretty much the same as the old one (same colours) but more polished, I would make that the default. Although it looks a bit strange that while the page hasn't loaded completely, there's a large gap between the menus on the left and the rest of the page, then the page jumps to the left and the gap disappears.

Re: What USB do you miss on OS4?

@rwo

I only miss 2 things:
1. PTP driver so that I can connect Canon cameras and access the files on their memory card :)
2. USB2.0 EHCI driver so that accessing memory sticks, etc. is not limited to <1MB/s speeds.

I would recommend using MiniGL instead of W3D (requires much less work).

@cygnusEd

I only consider it as a temporary solution though, merging data files of games into the X11 directory structute, which have nothing to do with X11 is a really ugly way of getting things to work. So at some point you should really consider using your own unique assigns for Cygnix which will not conflict with the OS4 SDK, and some games/applications.

@Helge

Note that even if they did a buyback it would not automatically mean that Hyperion would not have the right to continue development and distribution of OS4. In fact I very much doubt that Amiga Inc. would want to take the burdain of further OS4 development (bugfixes, updates, etc.), customer support and everything that goes with it. They might just want to acquire some of the OS4 sources to use for their OS5 project. So whatever "buyback" means all depends on the terms outlined in the particular contract they sign. It's really not wise to go too far with the speculations.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but do we already have confirmation of this product being recognized/ taken care of by AmigaInc.?

Well, at last year's Pieaneta Amiga show where Samantha was first introduced, there was a recorded speech from Bill McEwen of Amiga Inc. in which he talked about Samantha as a future hardware for OS4. It's only "talk", but at least we know that Amiga Inc. consider the Sam440 as one of the OS4 hardware products. In fact Sam440 is the only publically known hardware projects, which was publically acknowledged by Amiga Inc.

I think I read it in a thread on AW.net. I've no idea what's coming, but I suppose there will be some news about the Sam440, which we know by now runs Linux, hopefully we'll find out when we can expect the board to be available with OS4.

I heard that there is going to be some news from ACube this month, that means within 10 days.

I'm still totally clueless about what's causing your problem. I can play DVDs just fine on my uA1 with DMA enabled.

"free" hardware? Huh? :)

Last time I checked Hyperion were still working on OS4 and not doing hardware development, did I miss something?
