OpenAmiga Ideas (Voice Recognition?)

I was looking at: http://openamiga.org/index.php?function=viewcomments&threadid=3And thought about 2 things: 1) For workbench, a way to show the full path in window's tittle bar. 2) A very ambitous project would be to add support for voice recogition (I have no idea if there is any open source readliy available for this). The draw back I've seen in Windows (or probably any GUI system) is that it was designed with the primary human interaction with a mouse / keyboard. If the primary design was voice activation, I wonder what a computer would be like....anyways just a thought about how such a thing could be implemented in AmigaOS. How can it be done better on the Amiga?

I just noticed 1 more thing from the current release: I have in my startup-sequence: Run >NIL: C:AddNetInterface QUIET DEVS:NetInterfaces/~(#?.info) And have user-startup with: run >NIL: Work:TuneNet/TuneNet -stream http://82.149.227.170:8000In earlier release Tunenet would keep trying to connect -- in 86.66 seems like it is not. Basically, with using the "run" for addnetinterface" it allows WB to bootup faster but its IP is not ready completely when TuneNet starts. Tunenet was okay with this before but the behavior has changed now

1) I tried the previous test release on OS4 on classic and saw issues with SkinFX not loading. If SkinFX is selected then no GUI pops up. 4.1 on SAM is okay.
2) Every once awhile after streaming for a long time (like keep up overnight) etc...I notice either the audio garbles (and corrects itself) or have seen Tunenet freeze. This is with Audio 0, stereo++ (hard to reproduce to freeze)...This is SAM 4.1 with quickfix.
WIll continue to see if this comes up again with new 86.66

In 3 iPhone generations, there is 50,000+ apps -- that to me is incredible! That I think was in 3-year or so time-frame...in market where there were already pda+phone capable products.
A new generic API can be nice for more developers to be involved but if the product does what everything else out there does (by being able to port x-number of apps from Linux or other open-source), then there is little difference. This would be more like frosting on the cake after the platform is established by having more apps....
So way beyond some new API, I think what the Amiga platform needs is to find a focus. The thing that Amiga has lost was its special capablities --graphics/genlock that made it unique to any computer at the time. What makes the Amiga special now that can pave the way to solve a need? What is already there that could be 10-fold improved and done on the Amiga 4.X in the best way possible?
How about a DVR for all the "free" TV content on the internet and over the air antenna (non-service contract). There is probably some products like this but I haven't seen a solution where I can just plug it in and be able to work on my TV *easily*. Sony had a sort of DVR that was non-service contract that downloaded the program guide from the antenna -- and that was used for the DVR)..extend this to hulu / other sites for on-demand content...in an interface that is easy to find the content you want to watch/record for later...
Maybe not the best idea...but there is surely something...

I just tried "Simple" on my 4000t -- still seeing same issue. :(. It definitely has do with system loading -- if I try to load a webpage and move windows around at the same time, etc..this is when it gets bad. In the case of AmigaAMP, audio would just cut out and when audio comes back, it is still clear.
It is a 200MHz PPC / OS4.0 latest, etc. using Paula audio.

Oh I'm just remembering another minor "bug" -- maybe from the Protracker plugin...but when playing mods in a list, there is a infinite repeat on that song (even though I don't have that option selected). i.e. it does not go to next song in list...

@my_pc_is_amiga
1) I just tried 86.54 on my 4oooT -- it is still very evident on this system. I basically can open OWB (a few websites open on multiple windows). Then I start dragging the windows around etc....and audio gets choppy. Not seeing this on AmigaAMP...

1) I have a SAM440 (built-in audio from SAM). I hd noticed this issue more on my A4000T with the older version of Tunenet (haven't tried this latest one though). Post 46 has a better description -- this is pretty much the same observations that I've had. I did try different priorities on my A4000T but didn't help. Again, on the SAM I have observe the out-of-sync (garbled/choppy audio) but has been rare and then it seems to correct itself fairly quickly.
2) I got this going now! Very simple "tunenet -playlist <name of file>"
Thanks!
---- @bean
1) Have you tried upping the player priority in the preferences. I don't get the garbled sound on my system even under heavy CPU usage. What is your system/sound card?
2) TuneNet has a few CLI options, you should be able to load a list and play from CLI (you can either enable or supress the GUI's). Type TuneNet ? from a CLI and see if you can get it going. If not let me know.

Been trying out 86.54...
1) On un-iconify...both the skin and GUI comes up (2 tunenet interfaces)... 2) On occasion I still hear garbled audio but corrects itself fairly quickly (this looks much better than before when the audio was garbled on high CPU loading and only way to correct was to stop and restart playing).
Is there a way for tunenet to autoplay the top item in the list when the program starts. I would like to put it into my user-startup, so that on booting it can play. AmigaAMP has this option but not seeing it for tunenet.

@orgin This is a great browser...would like to see it even become more mature. I noticed at www.wamu.com, OWB can freeze quite easily. To reproduce, login as a some bogus user, the next page will be loaded and then, you can't click anywhere. Moving the window won't work...mouse pointer is okay. But there is no way to access workbench. Rebooting is the only option. This is on a AmigaOS4 classic system.

Does classic 4.0 bugs count?
Multiview --
1) I drag in a text file to the multiview icon on Amidock. Text file opens in multiview on WB. 2) I then drag a dir. into multiview. A requester pops up asking for file. 3) I say Cancel. And the text file I had open is gone. Name of file is still on window title bar though.
If I instead say "Open" for step 2. and say cancel the text file is okay and is visable still
Screens Another thing I just noticed (not sure a bug but a non-inuitivie behavior nonetheless):
1) I have say TuneNet open on Workbench screen 2) I have Multiview on its own screen 3) I drag a drawer from Workench to Multiview screen (not the window on that screen). 4) Tunenet is under the multiview screen. 5) That drawer is actually activied through Tunenet and not the Multview screen.

@interrogative I haven't seen that kind of crash...but have seen enough on the SAM that I haven't installed much software, etc.---I got other gurus that are just as fustrating...haven't really heard much response with these.... http://www.amigans.net/modules/newbb/ ... t_id=28055#forumpost28055

Slightly off topic...but have noticed for a long time that if a program or window becomes frozen, the Zoom, Depth, and Size gadgets work still...this I've thought is great.
But the "Iconify" doesn't work...seems that Reaction is not as low-level as the orginal gadgets.

@COBRA
I didn't try that specifically but indirectly I think when I select OS4.0 look from presets drawer, transparency is turned off -- an still seeing freezing.
For the other issue, I got the gurus posted on os4depot. To replicate the gurus, I can open and close the prefs editors multple times -- and eventually I get intuition to crash nearly at that same location.

Slightly off topic -- but related to the gui on 4.1 for the Sam. I am seeing some freeze/lock-ups when resizing windows (ctrl-all-alt does not work and need to do cold power reset). Doesn't always happen -- not sure how to reproduce execpt to open multiple windows and then drag the size gadget back and forth for awhile on 1 winow and then I see system freeze (mouse / keybourd etc is locked)
I tried both the "old" 4.0 preset and new 4.1 preset in prefs...seeing same thing every once awhile.
EDIT: Actually, can just try to open "media toolbox" -- go to partition editor and then size window -- have been able to reproduce this!
EDIT: Some other issues: Fonts prefs when scaling smaller, window gets corrupted (preview has dark grey background instead of picture)
Also, been seeing 8000 0003 gurus--I can probably post these to os4depot -- seems to be related to intuition.library.
