Re: NG Amiga user questionnaire

Here is a summary of the results for the poll that asked what the NG Amiga users would use their Amigas for if there was no lack of available software. In the poll it was possible to vote for a self-defined Amiga use (the Other field) instead of or in addition to the listed options. In the summary nearly all those votes have been associated with the original poll options.

@328gts
Thanks for your input. It's someone elses turn to make a more precise poll or polls.
The poll I created answered to all my questions and more. I hope the other developers find the poll results useful too and we'll see new/better AmigaOS4 and MorphOS applications in the future.
There are certainly big gaps in the NG Amiga application selection, like a modern web browser for AOS4, but also smaller gaps that can be filled.

Well, what can I say. Amiga browsers can't display modern web sites correctly. I still hope that you'll find a way to participate in the poll.

Hello, I've composed a poll for all next generation Amiga users to find out what you use your Amiga for or what you'd like to use it for. The purpose of the poll is not only to find out what an average Amiga user does with his/her Amiga but also find out which applications are the most wanted ones. The poll can be found from here: NG Amiga user questionnaireI hope that as many of you as possible find time to participate in the poll. Thank you in advance! EDIT: See how people have answered so far

Hello, Has anyone tried compiling Grand Monster Slam? Its assembly source code is in the Internet Archive. Graphic, sound, and music files seem to be missing from the archive.

A GCC 8 add-on for CubicIDE would be very welcome. It's a shame CubicIDE is no longer updated It's a really good editor. Well worth its price.

@LiveForIt
The narrator device works with PPC hardware too, eventhough it's using the audio.device for audio output. I have an AmigaOne-XE and speech works fine, except that nasty bug in closing the device.
The reason for the speech to work on PowerPC Amigas is that AmigaOS 4.1 FE contains version 53.3 of the audio.device which uses AHI for audio output.

I can verify that the original Commodore narrator.device (version 37.7), speak-handler (version 37.4), translator.library (version 37.1), and SAY command (version 37.4) do work on AmigaOS 4.1 FE, like Niels said.
The narrator device has a bug in closing the device which makes the SAY command (or any other program using the narrator device) to crash. However, the bug can be avoided by mounting the SPEAK device (which uses the narrator device) on system start-up. As long as the SPEAK device is mounted, the narrator device remains open and it won't crash.

@Amigo1 Quote: As far as I am aware, the available mp3 taggers available atm are: * id3editor * qtagger * id3tagLibGUI * Various shell id taggers * MusicTagger * aTunes tage Editor
Music-Tagger was the only one which worked straight from the package. (I didn't try any command line taggers.) Quote: Regarding the layout and functionality, I like how they solved them in mp3tag (www.mp3tag.de) for MSWin and on Tag Editor for macOS (www.wondershare.net), besides iTunes. I liked the Tag Editor for Mac's list approach. It seemed very powerful way of editing the tags. I'll have to investigate if all those list features/actions (images and pop-ups) are possible with Reaction.

If people were willing to pay for an MP3 Tag Editor, for example 5-10 euros, I would consider making one.

@mritter0
Highlighting for AmigaDOS scripts, Lua, and Rexx would be nice. I also wouldn't mind 6502 assembly, CSS, JavaScript, and Java highlighting.

OK, thanks.
I tried VICE 2.4's macOS version and by default the emulated computer has access to the host file system. I can get the directory listing of the host file system like this:
LOAD"$",8 LIST
However, on Amiga the LOAD"$",8 command returns a FILE NOT FOUND error.

Hi,
I have trouble accessing Amiga volumes/directories from VICE. Is that feature available on the VICE's Amiga version?
Am I right that selecting "Virtual device traps" from the VICE's Options menu should activate the feature - give the emulated computer access to the host file system?

I have no problem downloading the PDF. It must be a browser problem.
Try reloding the download page. Rendering the PDF document takes time and it may display an error page at first.
