Thanks Hans.

Does anyone know if the single lane PCI-E slot is useable either for an alternative sound card?

Suggests memory issues. How much free memeory do you have at the time the network freezes?

Ummm, avail typically reports 1.5GB?

I should have looked that up.

t's the onboard sound which I have my speakers plugged into. That must mean it doesn't show up as a PCI device at all then? All other devices I in Ranger I account for.

Anyway, I'd be interested to hear how many SAM460 people have problems with sound.

Standard SAM460 with SIL 3114 "RAID" card, Radeon HD 6570 graphics card.

"Every now and then" (maybe after a few hours of usage, problem seems to be agrivated by disk usage), networking completely dies. I get "No buffer space available" from pings. Soft reboot does not fix, only a hard reboot.

Has anyone else seen this problem?

I have the slow audio problem on my SAM460 (amongst other issues).

PCI info shows up as "Unidentifyied Multimedia Device" Vendor code 0x1002 product code 0xaa90. Don't know if this is some new device Acube is now using as apparently sounds works for other people.

Older driver: Sound is ok except for playback occuring at about 95% speed.
Current driver: Sound plays at the right speed but there are crackles and pops

Perhaps I should have got a SAM440 afterall.

Anyway if really wont the compiler to optimize for using registers.

You need to define your int as:

Register int cnt;

however there is a limited number of registers and so there is limited of what compiler will put in there.

A decent compiler will take care of this for you. "register" as a keyword is basically obsolete and has been for years. Likewise a good compiler will use registers for loop counters etc, automatically.

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/22 ... as-loop-counter-variables

In general for "average" or indistinct integer vales, use int as it matches the width of machine registers.

Elo Swisso, that'd be great and very much appreciated. Let us know if you are going to the next one... I should have my Sam system up and running by then and, no doubt, a huge number of questions...

Really sad to miss it last weekend Mikey. Had a family BBQ (the last go of the summer most likely).

I wonder if anyone could tell me if they travel up from the Hampshire area for the meetings? I've looked at going up on the train, but it looks like a 4 hour journey on public transport. Will happily split the petrol money.

Re: Newer version of Perl than 5.8.5 for AmigaOS4.1?

Hi,

The main thing was the language features really.

$c = $a // $b;

say "hello";

state $i = 1;

Finally perl got a decent "switch" statement.

Smart match (~~)

But the main thing is that I'm used to using 5.12/5.10 in my day to day job. :)

Anyway, it's no biggy at all. Thanks for getting 5.8 done! :)
