@spotUP

Hey there, yeah all doing fine. I've been taking some time out from my Amiga for a bit and playing games (PS3) like they're going out of fashion. This is the 1st time I've booted my A1 (and TuneNet in months). Currently listening to a few C64 remixes from http://remix.kwed.org/ and now wanting to add some new features to TuneNet. :)

I notice the classic version of OS4 is now out - super. I'll order it and get my A1200 tower going again. Anyone managed to run TuneNet Skinnable preview on it yet? Does it run OK?

I've also seen a load of plugins on OS4 depot :O - great stuff.

Has anyone had a go at making a skin yet? It's packed with features and I'm dying for someone outside the testers to have a stab at it! If you feel like having a go just look at the current skin XML files and read the little construction doc in the TN archive and see what you can do! ..or post questions here.

Cheers,
Bean.

P.S. I'll start putting a bug list together now from the various posts scattered around.

Re: id3 tags in tunenet

@amipal / Jack,

TuneNet supports ID3V2 tags only at this point in time (for MP3 files). I am looking to extend the support. It is possible that it could be a bit broken with the previous release - I seem to remember having to add work-arounds for certain broken tags (a certain version of iTunes for one) which may cause a few other problems.

I do intend to get back to programming with my A1 very soon now...

Cheers,
Bean.

Some additional skins which were created/converted by Curty are now linked from the TuneNet download page.

Thumbs up to Curty!

@Jack

Hi Jack, sorry about the lack of a reply. I've been a bit ill over the last few days and my Amiga hasn't been switched on. I too have noticed a little problem with crashing and I will look into it. I have some ideas what it might be. Could you do a test and turn off the internet radio list to populate on startup, save the prefs, restart the whole machine and then retry your original tests.

Thanks,
Bean.

P.S. I'll get back to your mails soon and link to Curty's skinnable examples.

....and....

a small skin from Mason called aPhone has been uploaded, it's available from the download page.

It might be useful for people wanting to learn how to create skins as well.

More skins arriving later in the week.

Bean.

@hotrod

The default skin is limited to a max of 1024 by 768 pixels. But there is nothing from stopping you altering this!

I'm sure FuZion won't mind me saying this, but try the following:

1/ I'd recomend copying the "default" skin directory within the skinFX directory to a new dir, say: "default_modified".

2/ Open up the tn_skinfx.xml file from the default_modified directory file to a text editor.

3/ Remove the line that says:

maxwidth="1024" maxheight="768"

line 11 I think.. and save.

Point the skin within TuneNet prefs to the "default_modified" directory and select save (or use). Now you should be able to stetch as big as the screen allows.

Bean.

I've been testing TuneNet for 1 minute and 2 seconds apparently, and I've found a bug already!

If you select the SkinFX display and close the old Reaction window, and then minimise the SkinFX display, when you un-minimise both the SkinFX and Reaction windows reappear.

Also, there's an old bug that I keep forgetting to mention. You aren't setting the AppIcon position to -1 after loading the icon image and before calling AddAppIcon().

Anyway, looking good so far! Nice work.

Chris

Typing this on my PS3 The minimise "bug" is more like a missing feature. I'm being cheap and using the Reaction minimise at the moment which is why both windows are involved.

Regarding the scroll bars, they are not proportional yet. I've basically written a gadget and layout system from scratch and there is still much to do. BTW: This isn't the fault of FuZion - he wanted prop gadgets as well - I just ran out of time.

Sorry

Some Notes:

The F5 key will refresh the skinnable interface at any time. This is useful for skin designers who want to see their changes as they work.

To change a skin go to preferences->look and change the SkinFX directory to that of another skin. There are two examples for skin designers and more skins will be uploaded and linked throughout this week.

FuZion's Default Skin; Notes:
=====================
* The default skin has a mini-mode (click the min/max button).

* To fast forward / rewind you can hold down the Next/Prev buttons.

* To stop a song hold the Play button for more than half a second. To pause whilst playing just click it normally.

* You can resize the playlist columns, but it doesn't remember column sizes on exit yet.

* No column sorting on skinnable system yet.

Finally you might want to try out the Device Mode in the audio playback for shared Audio between applicatations.

Bean.

TuneNet V0.86.32 Preview
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Hi Guys,

For people that like to test software you can now try out a preview of the skinnable system from the TuneNet homepage:

www.tunenet.co.uk

It's not meant to be a replacement for the last public offering, but allows you to test things out. Please make sure you read the Readme. Oh and install the Expat library as stated if you want to use Skins.

Anyway, I'll get the other skins linked and up for people to use.

Oh, and I think there might be a problem with scrollable system fonts when running with OS4 beta testers systems - but this is still under investigation.

Anyway, comments from anyone brave enough to try this out will be appreciated.

Thanks to all involved: Curty, FuZion, Spot, Mason, Jahc, Olle, Chris and everyone else.

(Sorry for the delay, I've been busy with my new PS3 )

Cheers,
Bean.

@Raziel

The device modes are part of the standard AHI install. They are configurable under the AHI preferences and let you define the max number of channels, volume scaling, mode to use etc, etc.. These settings are then used system wide.

The Music Unit can be set to supply a default audio mode, but because the application using the Music Unit has full control the mode used can be changed by the application.

Bean.

@MichaelMerkel

No real reason. I'd already dabbled around with the Music Unit before I wrote TuneNet and I hardly ever play sound from more than one app at a time, so never really thought about it.

The Music Unit is usually used when you want total control of the Audio and the best quality available. It's mostly used in audio creation apps, such as Audio Evolution.

I use TuneNet with the device mode now BTW.

Cheers,
Bean.

P.S. The preview will be released at the end of next week.

@Severin

Hi,

Using the AHI Music Unit (which TuneNet has used since day 1) will block other apps that try to use AHI Device Mode. The upcoming release now gives you the option to use either Device or Music unit. So if you use the Device mode other apps can play at the same time.

Cheers,
Bean.

I'm also interested in hearing some feedback for TuneNet as I'm sure Bean & the crew would be too.

Noooo! Feedback == More Work! Seriously though, it would be nice to hear some comments back from those who saw it at the recent Pianeta show and AmiCon, good, bad or otherwise - we can take it!

Without giving a date all I can say is we are close to releasing a preview version of TuneNet for all to sample. When I say "preview" I mean a usable development version which people can also start building skins with, but with missing features, the odd bug and such like.

The next version isn't so much of a big upgrade in functionality (mainly down to the time spent on the skinnable system), but it does offer the new Skinnable Interface, AHI Device (0-3) in addition to the Music Unit mode audio, independent Reaction/Docky/Skin Interfaces all available under the 1 exe (and at the same time if you so desire), and a lot of internal changes.

One point I'd like to make clear about the upcomming preview, the skinnable interfaces will only feature in single window mode only. IE: Skins with multiple windows (like the WinAmp based seperate playlist, EQ windows etc will not yet be available). However, skins with playlists built into the main window are fine.

To be totally upfront and honest this is everything I've got to do before a preview release can happen:

1/ Complete and get the latest preview version to FuZion so he can implement some features that were broken in his excellent default skin (probably about 4 hours solid work left for me + then some more for FuZion).

(For those of you who like detail specifically:

a/ Adding some additional label types for skins.(DONE)
b/ Fixing a "can't quit" senario if the default skin has errored. (DONE)
c/ Fixing the 3 state repeat mode on the menu! (DONE)
d/ Adding the ability to hide triggered animations when not active (stream anims for example). (DONE)
)

2/ Bring the documentation up to scratch.DONE

3/ Fix a system font scroll bug which only appears on OS4 beta tester builds. ..and no I'm not a beta tester but I know someone who is kindly testing.50% - possible OS4 beta bug

4/ Make sure the testers are all happy.

5/ Package it all up with FuZion's default skin. [TEST DONE]

6/ Put it on OS4 Depot / Home page with some links to other skins.

7/ See what people think, then start adding the new functionality and multiple skinnable windows.

Right, I hope that's enough info - sorry for no dates. I'll fire up Cubic and get cracking.

Cheers,
Bean.
