@xenic So far I have found this with help from these and Amigaworld forums.
Clean install Use the OS4 theme option (this appears to be a big issue). Register and update on Hyperion's site (2 x updates). For me there was issues trying to use Ken's icons because I forgot about the extra libraries and dataypes, install them. Then there are extras like aysinco lib etc. Then there are there requirements of other software, ie Tunenet (I haven't tried yet but from memory needs additional libs). Turn composting off.
I scoured the last few months of updates on OS4Depot and updated a lot, whilst I was frustarted at first I realise I now have a fairly lean mean Sys partition, yes I will have to add to it to get some other older stuff going but it is not the jungled mess I had grown over the many years which obviously caused me the grief.
Is my system perfect, no not by a long shot but it is now pretty stable and running alot of stuff pretty damn quickly. The upcoming updates will address a lot of our issues.
My second Flex arrived today, this is going to be my serious machine with Linux and OS4 installed and yes i am expecting a prickly time getting it going smoothly.
hang in there.

PS a cheap $10 keyboard works better for me than 5 other top of the line models! Keeping it simple seems to work.

Can USB pendrives be mounted on SAM Flex? Just getting my Flex working and I have forgotten more than I remember on OS4x. Should there be a usbmassstorage.device in Devs?
Any help appreciated.

@Rigo
After re-installing, removing my sil card, updating drivers and thinking all looks much better. Amiupdate works great now. The only remaining issues are Netsurf crashing and trying to remember how to mount a usb pendrive.
A big issue was remembering to install the SVG datatype and icon stuff, that was really playing havoc for me. I am sure there are other things I will need to remember, it has been so long since I installed my original OS4!
Thanks for the offer of help.

@PEB Thanks that would be great if you could email. I may have done the usual and cross contaminated by loading my old stuff, I'll work through it slowly and fix but will contact the authors if I hit a brick wall. There are some minor issues with Flex which will be sorted in the upcoming update so I'll have to be patient a little longer.

I just received my SAM Flex yesterday after being Amigaless for 7 months so I am a bit rusty. Most things work ok but I have a few issues with which I could use some help.
OWB 3.13 - Loads quickly with splash screen but browsing is dog slow, unbearable. I have checked SObjs and tooltypes to no avail. I did have trouble configuring my network (router with DHCP Roadshow would not configure automatically) maybe this has an impact?
EDIT -I did a complete reinstall of the required fonts and works fine now.
Netsurf 2.1 - Crashes and brings down the house, I can't seem to do anything with it.
AmiUpdate-latest - A program I was relying on to update important files, always crashes at 35% scan.
Push4Dock - Installer will not work, asks for a Python installer
IBrowse and Simplemail work fine as does AmiCygnix/Netsurf and Claws.
Any suggestions appreciated.

@orgin
Can you please explain why memory protection is so important on AOS?? I just don't get it, I use XP, Ubuntu, OSX and VISTA and yet when prgrams die they just do, very few programs can be rescued. Am I missing something here over the past 20 years about our OS?? Just how has memory handling been such a huge issue (apart from we had a physical lack of it)?

@afxgroup
Not to mention MUI is developing on MOS but not on OS4 at the moment but if that were to happen wouldn't it make more sense to integrate with the latest MUI (rather than 3.9 on OS4.1).
Joerg Please keep going and don't take any of these suggestions as criticism, I periodically check out the official OWB site and they make mention we are the only ones with some sort of "GUI" which is obviously a big plus for us and their development team. From my perspective you are tackling this in the correct way, get the engine working then add the body, although I admit your comments on a "merger" with iBrowse is very intriguing and gives rise to the question "what body".
All Come on chaps back off, the rate of improvements is incredible, most reports to date are about "I can't get this site" not "don't look pretty". As stated we have precious few coders who do incredible things, don't ruin it by alienating them.

@bigmac
I ordered mine through Amigakit. Never been let down before with anything but my original order for Sam 667 didn't look like happening (not the fault of Amigakit), hence I opted for a Flex. Looks like Amigakit have only just got their 667 orders.
I am located in Adelaide.

I would love to attend but alas I am here in Oz AND that evil Amigakit will be attending, I think I have bought just about all of the ever made available Amiga HW/SW from him already-:)
Good luck.

G'day and welcome. I bought my first Miggy in 1987, cost a fortune in those days, not much has changed-:). My A1 has died and I am waiting on a SAM Flex so I just bought myself a CD32 to play with meantime. I think you will find this site valuable in answering OS4x related questions (as well as classic).

Yes I agree, I am not being disrespectful here at all. I just wonder what it will mean in the long run if anything. How much did he "direct" AInc or influence matters. This may in fact bog things down if his estate gets involved. I don't want to draw you into such a discussion as I think that may seem improper but for general contemplation.

@Atheist
Try what Elwood has indicated. In regards to the removal of the battery be very very careful, my battery holder was never originally soldered properly, the fixing of which has cost me an A1 over the many attempts over time.
