Re: AmigaOne U-Boot bugs - please read

Not sure if this is totally relevant to uboot but? Something I came across last time I changed a battery on a Micro A1-C. I saved my settings to a file using uboot prefs. But when I changed the battery and rebooted I discovered that not all the uboot settings had been saved and I was unable to boot my Micro-A1 from the HDD. Fortunately I had list of all my uboot settings printed and was able to recreate my uboot environment

I can confirm this one. So can sundown and I'll bet many, if not ALL Micro owners.
I don't see how this is uboot prefs issue, frankly, since several things are often NOT getting set in uboot (not prefs) despite the changes the user makes.
I was advised to use uboot shell instead of the uboot UI and after making these changes, saving multiple times.
Finally...a save registered.
It was indicated to me that some NVRAM is flaky, but I have no way to know that for sure.

Is this occuring on XEs or only on the Micros?

Because I pre-ordered it and want to know if OS 4.1 is already out in the trucks(airplanes) to the distributors or already there.

Re:Kurt Grach

As he has already stated elsewhere, he has a backlog of work atm and expects more free time later this month.
Also, he is preparing for the LICA Amiga meeting tomorrow evening, which also requires some forethought.

Softhut, Kurt, and others are in the same bind as everyone else. Without a package of OS4.1 WITH hardware to run it on, the chances of generating more activity from the dealers OR adding new dealers is almost a moot point.

Re:Amiwest

This must be user driven. Don't expect Amiwest organizers to blanket amigaland with requests for attendees.
If you know of someone who you think would help increase attendance by their presence, write to them and to Amiwest organizers. Simple as that.

Depends somewhat on how you interpret:
"Since this is primarily for the ?A1 I kinda put it on hold until the ?A1 can handle bridge chips (which it doesn't at the moment)."

I always took that to mean hardware.

Yes. It's gone down 3 times recently.

I just logged onto irc with fr.amigaworld.net and had no problem.

This should confirm what we discussed in irc.

The issue is http only. (this time)

Re: YAM 2.5 Problems (and how I fixed them)
Just popping in
Just popping in

@tboeckel

I noticed the following in the current YAM:
YAM 2.6-dev [OS4/PPC] (06/28/2008), as well as the prior dev release:

(1)When clicking "New", a small window opens, as opposed to my previously saved full screen preference for that window.

(2)When I close that window, deletion is automatic, instead of using my checked setting in "Configuration/Miscellaneous/Confirm deletion of".

Both occured since installation of:
TextEditor.mcc 15.27 [OS4/PPC] (06/22/2008)

Confirmed with one other user checked the same 2 items.
Obviously, I can just try to resave prefs, but I wanted to relate this before I do that.

Added:
Stretched the "New" window to full screen, snapshot it again, rebooted, and all is fine. It must be related to the reading of the snapshot setting.

MPlayer plays it correctly, from GUI and Shell.

Agreed. This was the only place where our test results differed. Seems in shell MPlayer Leitmotiv will crash with a .fli without the use of the -vo sdl parameter, something that does not happen with an .mpg for example.

Not that this source will be any help, but here's another fli/flc player that worked reasonably under OS3.x:

Yes. I downloaded it as well thinking although the readme mentioned only ham6, that another version was also in the archive.

@Chris

I think we are unlikely to duplicate results, since currently I still have issues with most of the samples.

While I test some more, you can also confirm my (4) different results from censored.fli.

http://os4depot.net/index.php?functio ... aphics/viewer/flxplay.lha
Gave me rather incorrect graphic transistions.

MPlayer (Leitmotiv) with GUI gave me correct graphic transistions.

MPlayer (Leitmotiv) from shell (with huge stack recommended by afxgroup) gave me a lengthy error report on what it could not determine, followed by not 1, but 2 grim reapers.

Different still with your datatype.

I'm particularly curious about the MPlayer difference in behavior from shell vs the GUI...

@Chris

Samples sent as requested.

Since you made some changes since my post, please let me know what you want done re:testing at this juncture.

One correction on my email. The particular pair of pacman FLI/FLC were made by MainActor from the following anim on aminet, and not an .mpg as I stated in the email.
The balance, though, were FLI/FLC in original state as found.

http://aminet.net/package/pix/eric/PacMan

All the samples played properly under OS3.x with Mainactor, as well as the FLIs only with the P96 utility "FLIP".
XANIM also played them properly, iirc.

I can confirm that all of my sample FLCs fail with an "unsupported datatype" message.

I tested the 6 FLI samples I have.
4 stopped cold at the opening frame.
2 played but displayed corrupt data.

If you want my samples, just let me know.

Note:Although Mplayer plays many FLI/FLC correctly on OS4, it also seems hit and miss.

How Many Amiga Computers do you think Amiga inc Own?

It was originally 2 XEs, if you refer to the Eyetech models.

Here's a quote from Garry Hare's followup to his irc interview March 22, 2005 after they received them:

Quote:
4. Do I have AmigaOS 4.0, do I have an Amiga computer, do I know how to turn it on? And, if I have it, what do I think of it?

Yes I have OS 4 running on an Amiga and elsewhere (that ought to start a new thread). As an aside it was pretty difficult for us to get delivery in the US., even after pre-paying. I have brought this issue to Eyetech. I turned it on all by myself and am currently figuring out how to turn it off.

Re: Some observations for Transmission v1.0 w/GUI

@hotrod

Just in case this also applies:
One of the requirements for transmission is "threads.library".

Version 1.4 here, which people were told to download for older versions of MPlayer and Transmission.

Newer V1.5 exists on the SDK, which likely not all people are using.

It might be best to report the version# everyone is using, if you want to nail down this issue, in case it's "threads.library" and not sfs.

Just like Cloanto licensed the ROM and operating system items, and several parts thereof, and add-on components that required independent licensing, it is well known that other parties licensed similar items, e.g. for limited use on specific magazine cover disks (e.g. CU Amiga in 1993, PC Intern in 1999, Amiga Plus and PC Magazin in 2000), or with game collections (e.g. the Amiga operating system up to 2.0x as licensed by the German company Epic Marketing, who became Runesoft GmbH), or for publishing the Amiga operating system (e.g. Village Tronic Marketing GmbH for "Amiga OS 3.1", Haage & Partner Computer GmbH for "Amiga OS 3.5" and "Amiga OS 3.9", Hyperion Entertainment VOF for AmigaOS 4.0), or for manufacturing entire systems (e.g. Escom AG, MS MacroSystem Computer GmbH now MacroSystem Digital Video AG, Tianjin Family-used Multimedia Co., Newstar Electronic Corporation, Rightiming Electronics Corporation, Regent Electronics Corp., Lotus Pacific Inc.)

Am I reading this correctly?
You fear this being successful and therefore having a possible ill effect on hardware that might be produced capable of running OS4?

Hardware developers are looking for things they -can- do from a legal perspective given the current situation. I think your angst is misdirected at those actually trying to do something here.
