@apsturk I'm a bit confused by this. Didn't AOTL recently throw a tantrum & denounce they'd never work with A-Eon & Amiga Kit again? edit: This.

Since at least the 30th May, I've noticed that "[The Amigans website] Forums auto-notify : New post in thread" emails are going into my GMail's Spam folder. The fault appears to be at Amigans.net's end (or more specifically the groupmail.com service it uses), as GMail reports: Quote: It appears the SPF record needs updating.

@Elwood Interesting to read: Quote: In order to solve the situation, in 2016 we approached the Italian firm ACube Systems a company that have some experience in designing PowerPC motherboards. We were lucky, as we found a group of passionate people that shared the long-term advantages of the Open Hardware philosophy, and their prior experience in designing a variety of PowerPC motherboards makes them an ideal choice as a partner. Together with ACube we will be able to get the electronic design done, but a professional electronic designer has to be paid.

@Elwood Why isn't the crowd-funding being done using a legit platform like Kickstarter, or (a IMHO semi-legit one) like IndieGoGo? Is it because they want the donation period to be very long / open-ended? edit: Ah, OK, they gave an answer: Quote: We cannot make use of commercial crowdfunding platforms because they are aimed at backing the production of a product, and moreover, they require a working prototype to start campaigning. We are not making nor selling a product, we are making and supporting research and development instead

@Thematic I doubt it will be reproducible by anyone else, since it sounds like memory corruption (which is probably caused by Odyssey but we can't be sure) . In any case, I had Odyssey running & got this from the Shell: Quote: > PYTHON:Scripts/PyVersion.py Machine: AmigaOne X1000 CPU: P.A. Semi PWRficient PA6T-1682M System:: ppc-amiga Python Version: 2.5.6 Workbench Version: 53.## Workbench ARexx Port: WORKBENCH (I used ## to comment-out the version number of Workbench, since I'm not sure if this is a private Beta version.) I should add that I am running OS4's Debug kernel, which is much more likely to catch memory corruption. You could try enabling that in KickLayout, and see if it catches the memory corruption(?) at an earlier/different place.

@mritter0 The changes list looks great! Listing of folder contents definitely feels a lot faster now (after changing some settings). So hopely I can now frequently use Workbench Explorer But some small observations: One 'bug' I noticed is that the Preferences window (which IMHO should be titled Preferences not Windows Explorer!) claims that FTP Mount is NOT installed... but it is! Could this be something to do with me having ACTIVATE=0 ? edit: Yes, this seems to be the cause. Maybe it should say "Not detected" rather than "Not installed"? What is the effect of it not detecting FTP Mount? Quote: For images, if Dimensions column is not shown, then no further examination. For music, if no MP3 columns are shown, then no further examination. Perhaps these columns could be marked by a * in Preferences, as this is not obvious without reading your change notes? (Even if it's documented... no-one ever reads the documentation!) Quote: You can now select when to check what datatype a file is, or not at all. ... - When select item in list: only once an item is clicked on. Are you sure this option is working? Because I didn't notice much difference (6.6 vs 7.5 seconds) when listing the tbimages: folder. For reference, Filer scans the same folder in 3.7 seconds (i.e. in nearly half the time). Maybe there is some other bottleneck? (e.g. Maybe generating the little (default) icon for all the files?) I also noticed that the file's datatype doesn't update when it's clicked (selected). That happens only later, when it is DEselected. I guess you are aware of this, and it's just difficult to have it behave any better? Quote: - Devices that are not active yet are skipped when scanning for devices and not mounted anymore. This works great, thanks! I am curious how you did it, because I could not see a way to determine whether a something had been mounted yet...

@BSzili Quote: and they think A-Eon will port them a brand new browser from scratch? Good luck with that I don't follow your logic. Sure it's gotten harder. All that means is that it's less likely some one is going to do it for free in their spare time. And that means the paid route looks more & more like the only option. The main question is how it would be maintained once the initial port was done. I'd suggest some kind of subscription. A modern web browser is so necessary for so many things these days, it's probably the one piece of software that a subscription might be seen as worth-while by a large part of the user base. Probably better to do the initial port, see how it sells, and if enough people buy it THEN decide on a subscription level for further (perhaps annual) updates. The LibreOffice port is unlikely to need frequent updates to stay useful, so perhaps A-Eon can look at a web browser port after they finish the LibreOffice port?

Any way to make Odyssey block 3rd-party cookies?

As the subject says, is there any way to make Odyssey block third-party cookies? It's a bit of a disincentive to use an Amiga browser, if I am being tracked ( 2) when I use it (but not on Windows where Firefox & Chrome support blocking of third-party cookies, never mind advanced add-ons like Privacy Badger). Disabling JavaScript by default does help somewhat, but the list of websites I've had to permanently enabled JavaScript (for them to work) is getting quite long now, never mind all the sites I temporarily enable JavaScript so I can read their content. (Sadly we don't have a NoScript equivalent, which lets you white-list JS from certain domains.) And yeah, I know I can: 1. Choose to opt-out, but I think that only stops them SHOWING you adverts based on the websites they know you've visited, it doesn't stop them tracking you in the first place? And it assumes you trust all advertising companies... 2. Delete all cookies on exit, but this is a bit of a drastic option, since not only will I be logged-out of all websites, but I'll be bombarded by EU-enforced "agree to us using cookies" on every damn website (since your agreements are stored in cookies themselves), and also my opt-out choices will be erased too...

@imagodespira Quote: You can hit "w" while playing to fit the window to video size. We played around while developing and from all choices it was the best to make it this way. But that's not what the "w" key does! Well, it does sort of, but in a way that is completely useless for my needs: 1. I start Emotion Player, and it appears with some window size. 2. I load a video. Emotion Player rescales the video to fit in the current window size. This usually means there are black borders above/below (or left/right) of the video, since the window's aspect ratio wasn't an exact match for the video's. 3. I press the "w" key, and the window is resized SMALLER, so as to remove the black borders. So I don't see how you can tell me the "w" key will do what I want, because it doesn't. (I think in an older version of the Emotion Player it did do what I want (enlarge the window to the video's native size), but that behaviour was unexpectedly changed/removed.) i.e. It is ESSENTIALLY IMPOSSIBLE to get Emotion Player to show a video in it's native size (no scaling). I really don't understand WHY this feature would be removed, because *every other video player ever made* (on Amiga or PC) either does this by default, or at least offers the option to do it. And to make it worse, this useful feature (resizing the window to show the video at maximum quality) was replaced by a trivial feature (*) that can be manually replicated anyway - using LAmiga+LAlt+two arrow keys. (* reducing the window size slightly, so you can see your Workbench backdrop (etc) instead of black borders) P.S. I fully support developers having the final say about what their program does or does not do (not that there is really any other option!). If it becomes clear to me that my misgivings are properly understood, and you are still adamantly against adding support for this feature, then I will drop the subject... albeit with great sadness, since I had high hopes Emotion Player could replace the good-but-imperfect LiveForIt-MPlayer. (And it seems VERY close to doing so.)

@RIBDEVIL That confused me too for a few seconds. But he was replying to Rob (without quoting), who said "A lot of Hyperion's old licenses are not valid for Amiga OS4 and would have to be renegotiated."
So his reply was suggesting that Hyperion would not need to renegotiate the license, they could just release a patch.

@K-L Quote: Emotion is using the VLC style : it keeps the size it had when closed. That's not how VLC works for me, although it is no doubt an options in the preferences (which is what I want to see for Emotion Player).

@imagodespira Quote: On "modern" graphics card, compositing scales the video up or down, this needs no CPU usage. That's why I put mention of CPU usage in brackets. Quote: no video should resize the window per default to a bigger size than the screen. Hmm, you're right, I was remembering an older version of Emotion Player... Now it is even worse as there is NO WAY to make the window resize to give 100% scaling of the video (i.e. 1 input pixel = 1 output pixel = best quality). I certainly won't be purchasing the full version until THAT is fixed. (It USED to do resize the window to the video size, but after I complained that Emotion could resize the window larger than the screen, it was changed so it doesn't resize the window at all. <Insert Jean-Luc Picard face palm picture here>)

@noXLar Quote: i'm just talking about having that option, so we who don't like the auto scale can turn it off and be happy :) Yes, I realise that :) . Although they appear to be against optional features (and preferences) in Emotion, where possible, so as to keep it simple. (But in this area I think they have simplified slightly too much!)

@Thematic ZMBV @noXLar Quote: one thing that annoys ... the player will automatically resize the players window view to the original size of the video file. Not disagreeing with your request at all (I'm sure you have a good reason), but that's the behaviour I personally want, since scaling the video to fit the window means a loss of quality (and/or higher CPU usage => lower frame rate). In general the only fixed size I want is "full screen", and that is of course already an option. However, I do dislike that (IIRC) it will resize the window to be larger than the screen, if the video happens to be larger than the screen. *No* other video player behaves that way (at least without you specifically requesting 100% scaling).
