Sorry if I misinterpreded your words. English not being my native language, I thought you were saying "your support sucks".

no worries ! besides, English is my native language, and I 'get the wrong end of the stick' all the time. I work in IT support, so I know the excrement that can get dished out, and wouldnt dream of dishing it out meself, especially when the work was done off your own bat, and effectively for fun. apologies if I'm being too idiomatic here btw!

It seems you have a hard time reading and understanding me.
now now old chap, steady on - I dunno if you've had a hard day, but you might've misread my intentions. Quote:
Anyway, down to facts:
- your adaptec will never be supported by uboot. Thus you will never be able to boot your system entirely from an SCSI drive that is hooked to it. I chose to support lsi just because it is the *only* scsi chip supported in uboot.
fair enough, I wont buy it then. I only asked the question to see if it would work before I bought. Quote: - the reason why there exists an OS4 scsi driver is that I was gently asked and convinced by some os4 betatesters, to write one to help the community transferring hardware and data from older systems to os4 machines. I *made the effort*, to *please them*, on my *spare time*, at *night*, to try & fill that need. All that *without any compensation of any form*, *just to be helpful*.
good for you, this community could do with more like you - people who a) can be arsed, b) have the time Quote:
- now you don't seem to like that you have bought an os4-unsupported hardware, and that eventually you realize that it is os4-unsupported. Given the tone of your wording, I don't share the disease.
errrr when did I say I actually bought the adaptec card ? I see how this has arisen now. sorry if I got you up on a misunderstanding, but I wasnt having a rant ! I'm better than that ... and nicer too! thing is, I dont have that much disposable income to chuck good money after bad on hardware that might not be supported - with the exception of the TV Card, but that worked quite well until update 3 or 4... Quote:
- finally, yes, I indeed suggest that you (or anyone else wanting an adaptec driver), download the SDK, a driver template, the adaptec chip docs, the linux or netbsd code for inspiration, and *make the effort* to code a new driver (which I made myself earlier).
I dont really want to have to write a driver - I already have intent to write one for a BT878 (more than I can chew ? probably. enough time ? definitely not!) and already have a copy of the SDK - I'd much rather buy hardware for which drivers exist, as I said earlier. really, I wasnt griping and bitching - I know some do, but I dont. Quote: indeedy - and get some sleep ! one more thing, nbache was right in just about every way - I'd've been on sooner, but for some reason, amigans doesnt play nice with the version of IE I have at work, hence me not reading this until I finally got round to getting the miggy online just now. and I would also like to say that people like you make it possible, keep it up, some of us do appreciate these efforts. Peace man.

@sg2
so basically what you're sayin is that the adaptec adaptor will only work with the linux side of me A1 and then only after a bit of a faff getting uboot to deal with it, and wont work with OS4 in a month of sundays unless someone (ie me) writes a driver for it.
fair play, thanks for your help lads !

interesting - does anyone have knowledge of Adaptec cards that work with OS4 ? I have an offer of a AHA 29160 ... I gather it should work with linux / debian though.

I agree! I really hope i can have a new Amiga on my desk before 2007 comes to an end. Let's just hope Amiga Inc does the right thing this one time...
(vr00mfondel, or, Vroomfondel as it originally spelled, is the wild (crazy?) rebell. Majikthize is the more sensible one of the two. I am a lot more like Vroomfondel: "What we demand is a total absence of solid facts!" (suits Amiga Inc pretty good too :D)
hehehe yes, I'd forgotten ! yes it does...

does he have LEGAL access to OS4 sources ? ie: does he have permission to distribute them ? and why would AInc not have access ?

all those problems recognising devices and hubs are for the missing pull-up resistors (if I remember right) I have 2 hubs, a USB 2 with many problems and a cheap 1.1 one that work very well, with the second one I have no problems, I can connect and disconnect, power on and off all the devices with no problems.
I thought it might, but things seemed to be working ok(ish) up until an OS Update (I think). I used to have a multiple media reader in an internal 3.5" floppy, which has NEVER worked. so... next question: what needs doing ? are there any instructions I can take to a qualified SMC repairshop ? -edit- oh - and any webcam stuff will be very gratefully received here! (Toucam and Logitech Quickcam 5000 particularly, but any CCD one )

Hopefully Amiga Inc have solved the problems with Hyperion by now.
I dont find the alternatives to working with Hyperion very promising and personally I probably wouldn't buy any of it.
Also I want to see the SAM board get a license, soon!
well, as far as I remember (could be wrong, has happened before) the situation was clarified as not trouble, but something that needed lawyers to get involved with. I can believe it as this sort of thing happens all the time in business.

I would like the usual, of course, but particularly: HP1360D printer, PalmOS devices (Palm IIIc and Clie SJ30 f'r'instance), Kodak DC3400 digital camera.
but most of all, I'd like the USB stack to recognise my USB Hub upon boot of OS4, cos I have to leave it unplugged, boot, then wait a few seconds and plug it in, hoping it will be recognised. most times I have to go into the shell and type usbctrl stop turn off the hub, enter usbctrl start and then power up the hub once more. its a workaround, but its a PITA ! this needs to be done everytime do Ctrl-A-A too.

@vr00mfondel (nice nick by the way! why that, and not Majikthize ? ) anyway, I couldnt really give a fetid dingo's kidney as long as people like ACube get thier licence to bundle OS4 with Sam440EP, etc.

@Spirantho great to hear you're still 'working' on it (even if you arent able to get anything done ) I'm hungry for this - I havent used been able to use my TV card for about a year now (since Upd 4 IIRC). even tried tinkering with the code you sent me, to no avail. I've even considered moving it to the girl's Peecee (spit!) in the dining roomjust so it gets used. good news If you need a Beta tester, I'm ya mon !

What do you think?

I wrote a backup of my photography partition to a CD using the DOSDrivers devices for CDRW or CDMRW (cant remember which) from within OS4.0 pre up 4.
trouble is, I cant mount them in OS4.0 final, rendering it useless as a backup really...
how do I do it ?
I've tried the disk icons in the DOSDrivers drawer - and even set up the params in the mount list - might it be a problem with SmartFileSystem handler being in the kickstart, and not L: ?
