@rjd324

Yeah, unfortunately I believe Marcom stopped trading several years ago.

I don't think it's possible to buy that fan solution any more.

Do you connect through a LAN? If so, just use two separate network cables for your two NICs (and if necessary put a network switch in between), i.e. have different IP numbers for the two.

I think the lack of wordwrap is intentional, as it would mess up the source code formatting and make it both hard to read, and hard to copy and paste.
Yes, of course, I agree. Didn't think properly.

Although ... Firefox on Windows does wordwrap it (and has no horizontal scrollbar), and if you copy a full section of text (which was originally one long line) and paste it into NotePad++, it is still only one line, so the formatting seems to be preserved. But yes, it is hard to read without copying it first.

Quote:
The vertical height of a source code box is limited to a reasonable value, and if the code is longer than that, it gets a vertical scroller. It should work the same way for the width of the box, which would both avoid the very wide pages, and preserve the source formatting. You'd still have to scroll back and forth to read long source lines, but at least the accompanying message text would be easily readable.
Also agree here, that would be the optimal solution. Whether it can be implemented on the site, or Odyssey needs changing, I don't know - we'll see what George can come up with.

@msteed

Yes, I confirm both of your observations (with Odyssey).

Although I've seen the problem earlier with the over-wide pages, I've never seen it extend as far as in these recent threads. And I've also never before seen the issue with the regular post text starting far to the right.

So either the latter issue is something that starts happening only at a certain page width, or it is really something new.

But probably the right place to solve it would be if Odyssey could learn to use word-wrap in the boxes and therefore not extend the page width. Don't know if that's realistic?

@rjd324

Before reading your last post, I was wondering whether the problem could be related to setting the stack back to the (presumably) lower value after running the program.

So maybe it isn't, but I'd still say you could simplify your script by omitting all the stuff that finds out what your current stack is and setting it back, as well as the PopCd command. All you're doing after that is unsetting a few variables, and then your script ends, which also ends the process where the stack and current dir are active. It only lives from the moment you start it from the icon until the script ends (unless I'm missing something).

You do know that sox is also ported to OS4, right?

@trixie

Nice job, as others have also said, the program is really nce to use and the GUI very neat and intuitive.

I'd still love it if one day you could make it possible to edit the waveform directly with the mouse, but we discussed this already, and I understand if that's not top of your list .

Re: Viable way to capture debuglevel 20 using the debug kernel
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

@rjd324

Basically nobody (except maybe the kernel devs) should use debuglevels that high, it's way out of the useful range.

I think they recommend 4 as the usual max level for normal debug Also remember that the debug level is for the kernel; there may be other modules and programs following it as well, but don't count on it. So only increase the debug level if you know you want specifically the kernel to tell you more.

Oh, and of course you have to use the debug kernel for that to be useful (but you probably are since you get so much output, just mentioning it for completeness).

As for changing the debuglevel after booting, you can do that with the KDebug command. Documentation is in SYS:Documentation/Kernel/Tools/

Just as a side remark: SnoopDOS was made for OS3.x (or earlier?), while Snoopy was made specifically for OS4, by the very maintainer of OS4's dos.library (and other core stuff).

I know what I want to use on OS4 ...

Since it seems to be a race condition, the difference in speed etc. between your two machines and (maybe especially) their graphics cards will very likely be a factor in whether it appears or not.

Which graphics cards do you have in the two machines?

Impressive stuff.

But I must admit I find it harder to read and understand what it does at a glance. than the ARexx approach. For me, that's preferable over a "clever" more convoluted solution.

Oh, sure, I'm not saying I use the simplest approach .

One advantage of doing it via an ARexx script is that I can handle errors more nicely, or at least (as in this script) bail out in error situations before doing any actual work/damage.

All good solutions, of course.

I just enjoy the integration into DOpus4 and being able to hit a button and be done with it .

At the moment I can't figure out why that one gave an error for you.

Anyway, Chris' two-liner above is also good and simple; I have to brag and show how to make it a one-liner, though:

List DIRS LFORMAT "lha a -a -e -r %N.lha Work:Games/%N/#?" Work:Games/ | execute IN:

(I haven't attempted to improve the ability to cope with spaces, but it should be possible by inserting some *" at appropriate places.)

Re: LHA Archiving questions....

@Cageman

You probably don't have the LhA command installed, or it is not in your search path.

Try opening a Shell and enter:

which lha

If it lists a path to an LhA command, what is it?

If not, are you sure you have it at all?

Otherwise go to OS4Depot:

http://os4depot.net/?function=showfil ... e=utility/archive/lha.lha

and download it. Now, how to extract an LhA archive without LhA, you might wonder? Start the UnArc program in your Utilities drawer, load the archive from where you downloaded it to, and extract the contents into RAM: (or wherever).

Then copy the LhA command into your C: directory, and see if that doesn't help.

The magic here is that UnArc uses xadmaster.library for extracting the LhA file, so it doesn't need the command line version of LhA, but my ARexx script does.

Niels
