Re: Installed OS 4.1 on my AmigaOne :-)

@TSK

Just a quick answer for now, for example, unpacking the archives.

In Magellan it is enough to drag and drop the archive from source to eg. RAM: to have it unpacked.

In OS4, first I need to switch the window to show all to see the lha archive, then to doubleclick the archive to run UnArc. If that doesn't work I have to start UnArc manually and locate the archive. Then it asks me for the destination folder even though the RAM is specified in ToolTypes as a default destination folder. When archive is unpacked and I open RAM:, I need to switch the window to Show all. Nothing is there so I need to Refresh the content from right-mouse menu to see the unpacked folder, etc.

Well, I know the plain OS3.x behaves the same, I just need to configure it a little. I just thought it's somehow more 'user friendly' in OS4.0.

How do you it configured guys?

@LiveForIt

I wish there is a Magellan for OS4. Every time I switch to A1/OS4 I feel handicapped. Things that take me a moment in Magellan, take ages in OS4 to achieve. I know it's more about habit but anyway...

Thanks. Does OS4.1 come with SFS or classic FFS? Would you recommend to install OS4.1 on SFS partition? And what are the possible drawbacks compared to standard FFS?

And one more question or two, what programs should I patch/update right after installing OS4.1? I think OWB is part of the OS4.1, that's one thing, anything else? Or should I leave the job to AmiUpdate? Is it part of the OS?

Heh heh - in the centre!

The Central Europe refers to geographical location, not the political one. As I don't stay in one country only (I mostly switch between Czech Republic and Slovakia), hence I chose the "central" term.

@ZeroG

Okay, one more reason to buy OS4.1.

Is the +RB feature documented somewhere?

@ZeroG

No, I don't have OS4.1 yet. Is it the feature of OS4.1 only?

The monitor is LG L206WTQ, the autoset feature of the monitor centers the screen for a few seconds only and then it shifts to the right...

@TSK

Many thanks! It works in 1650x1050 now.

However the screen is now shifted to the right. I adjusted it manually using the monitor's controls but it's not enough, the screen is still shifted a bit to the right. I can see only half of the screen-depth button.

Is there something like OS3.x Overscan Preferences in OS4.0? Or is there any other possibility how to fix it?

Higher Radeon resolution and centering problems

Hello, I've purchased AGP Radeon 9250 with 256MB RAM. The OS4.0 Screenmode shows 1280x1024 32bit as a maximum resolution. How can I set it to 1680x1050 according to my LCD? I assume the Radeon is capable of displaying such a resolution, right?

"Must have" software for OS4.x?

What is the "must have" software for OS4.x?

I mostly mean the libraries or any other components that are required to be installed in order to run other utilities.

AmiKit 1.5.2 Live Update (with new AfA_OS!)
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

AmiKit, the free software package that turns your Windows or Linux system into the high-end Amiga environment, has been updated.

Highlight: The v1.5.2 version contains the new and yet publically unreleased AfA_OS 4.3 (AROS for Amiga) system which enriches the AmiKit OS3.x environment with up-to-date AROS features. The update is delivered to you automatically thanks to AmiKit's integrated Live Update feature. Here's what's new.

The AmiKit emulation engine (WinUAE) has also been updated. There's a new Add-On which, when installed, updates the emulation engine of your AmiKit automatically.

New emulation engine add-on

The AmiKit turns your Windows (or Linux) machine into high-end Amiga environment - for free!

The new add-on installer updates the WinUAE emulation engine of your AmiKit automatically.
Download from Add-ons section.

Major 1.5.x bug fixes:

- Huge memory leak when switching between RTG and native modes.
- Writing to disk images didn't work in some games.
- Configuration cache missing files in subdirectories.
- Random freeze when switching to fullscreen modes that are smaller than desktop resolution.
- Second and third mouse/firebutton handling fix (Aladdin, BC.Kid and more)

Other bugs fixed:

- "Always on top", "No taskbar button" and fullscreen color depth change works on the fly.
- OpenGL fullscreen fixed.
- Parallel/Serial/MIDI select menus and Input-panel bottom options didn't work correctly.
- System clock run slightly too fast or slow if chipset refresh rate was different than startup refresh rate (really old bug).
- OCS NTSC configuration defaulted to PAL refresh rate.
- Real PCMCIA SRAM card re-insert detection fixed.
- Fullscreen RTG 16-bit to 32-bit desktop windowed mode switch (CTRL+F12) color errors fixed.

New features:

- Basic file association settings added to GUI (.uae, .adf etc..)
- RTG vertical blank wait uses interrupts, no more busy waiting. Should improve performance in many fullscreen RTG games.
- Added RTG virtual refresh rate configuration to GUI.
- Added RTG refresh rate next to chipset refresh rate FPS counter.
- Undocumented OCS "scanline" feature emulated (Ode to Ramon I and II)
- Midline resolution change improvements (still far from perfect, Disposable Hero, Innovation Part 2)
- Only accept current latest OpenAL32.dll or newer (old versions can cause crashes during device enumeration)
- Improved emulation of reads from write-only custom registers (S.E.X. / Fantasys)
- Syncronize Clock stability improved.
