@amigacooke Quote: I have to say that I can see no reason now to invest any more of my income or time in the Amiga community.
Why would you invest in the community? Buy a SAM with OS4.1 and invest in yourself Quote: Now it seems that using the Amiga means you can not do things that are available to users of Windows, OS X and Linux
You are absolutely right! Yet, there is ONE thing I personally couldn't get from Windows or other OSes: having fun. And crazy as it may sound, for me this was the decisive factor. So now I _am_ having fun using my computer, again.

@328gts Welcome! I can tell you my classic, emulated OS3.x setup run on my laptop was quickly forgotten after I got a SAM with OS4.1 I'm sure you'll love the new system.

@JosDuchIt
It's probably because of the way DiskMaster scans the DOS list. Under OS4, ENV: is no more an assign (like ENVARC: is) but a device.

@saimo
Could you possibly, in BOH's menu, add Return (Enter) as another key that makes a selection, just like Space does currently? It seems to me quite logical, and I often find myself pressing Enter automatically instead of Space.
Thanks, Trixie

@DaveP I'm sorry to hear about your trouble with the SAM! I bought a complete pre-assembled system from Vesalia, and I've lived happily ever after

@328gts
It runs fine on a 667MHz SAM if you set the game's display to Window mode or 800x600 screen. This is with the onboard gfx chip: a graphics card may give even better performance.

@Rogue Quote: If there is no commercial drive behind a project, it is going to move at glacial speed.
Exactly. Plus, consider the typical Amigan attitude "I'm not going to financially support X unless it has feature Y", and we're facing a perfect no-go situation!

Open the file "SYS:Kickstart/Kicklayout" in a texteditor, replace "kernel" with "kernel.debug", save the file and reboot.

Since replacing the kernel by the debug one (as suggested by Rogue earlier in this thread), I haven't experienced the empty grey screen problem, either.

@Skov
After applying the latest quickfix for SAM, I've also experienced what you're describing: the boot progresses normally but ends up in an grey-ish screen with the Workbench screen bar but otherwise blank. However, it happens rarely, definitely not 3 times out of 5.

Because times have changed. Apple started their business in a completely different computer market situation. Plus, they had an innovative product - something Troika has not.

Well mouse and keyboard work in all my USB ports so I guess the ports are wired properly? (I didn't assemble the SAM myself, I got a complete system.) Quote: Some devices will not work because they require vendor specific drivers. None of the sticks I've tested require any drivers in Windows. Don't know why OS4.1 on SAM is so picky about USB devices. The first keyboard I tried to connect (a fairly common Genius, no fancy "multimedia keyboard" with lots of extra buttons) wasn't recognised so I had to buy a plain Logitech keyboard, which works fine. Anyway, I'm offtopic here so sorry about my thought ramblings. Guess I must wait for an OS update.

The thing is that all the USB sticks I have tried support mass storage but the OS doesn't recognize them.

@orgin, Troels
These are surely important features but at the moment, they represent things "under the hood" that do not bother me too much. What bothers me is that USB support, a trivial thing I need every day, doesn't work properly on the Sam. Here's hoping for a quick fix!

@tommo1975 Quote: The lack of Java is a key weakness with OS4.1, perhaps not as key as the lack of Flash but it's up there. I'm not saying you're wrong but if there's something I'd call the "key weakness" of OS4.1, it's the USB stack. The fact that only one in five flash disks works is just {insert-your-favourite-derogatory-adjective}.
