Re: Amiga Developer Blog

@amigakit

I commend A-EON and your development team on the achievements you have made, such as 3D Shaders, Video Acceleration, OpenGL ES 2, Sensor API, Power Management, 2D Radeon RX and HD drivers.

IMHO, you guys have done a fabulous job in this regard.

New applications? Sure, very welcome.

But, I don't see the point of cloning commands that already exist in the OS4 distribution.

Re: Amiga Developer Blog

@amigakit

I am a regular user, not a beta tester or developer.

I purchased my MicroA1 motherboard (bundled with Pre-release version of AmigaOS 4.0) near the end of 2004 and built my own computer. Since then, I have installed every version of OS4 released to the public.

During the 5 year period of no updates from Hyperion, I purchased the Enhancer Software Special Edition V1.5 and installed most of the software on the CD.

So, I had the A-EON version of Clock, Calendar, Format, notification server, etc. I remember that it took some effort to wake up the new sound software on my system. I liked the Clock and Calendar, but rarely used them. Since the MicroA1 has only 256 MB of RAM and 32 MB of graphics/video RAM, I try to limit the amount of "eye-candy" on my system.

So December 2020 Hyperion releases AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition Update 2. I downloaded and installed this overtop of my existing OS4 FE Update 1 + Enhancer system. Format and Clock were overwritten with OS4 version. I can't remember if the sound package was changed.

Since I wasn't sure what else was changed, I did a clean install. I formatted my SYS: partition, installed OS4.1 FE, installed Update 1 and installed Update 2.

Of course, this wiped out my Enhancer Software.

Sometime after I installed the Hotfix for Update 2, I decided to install selected portions of the Enhancer Sotware package. I had some issues with the Updater program. Unkown to me, the Ringhio Notification server provided with OS4.1 was not compatible with Updater.

Eventually, I installed MultiEdit, MultiViewer, all the classes and gadgets and clipviewer.

I did not reinstall Enhancer Clock, Format or Sound package.

Also, I don't like to mix and match system commands with OS4 and Enhancer versions, because I don't want to keep track of which command came from which distribution. So, for example, I have not replaced List, Copy or Version commands with the A-EON versions.

Re: Cinnamon Writer status?

@NinjaCyborg

I confirm that the version of Cinnamon Writer on OS4Depot crashes on launch. The window opens with some stuff inside and my system locks up. Had to reset the machine to recover.

I have success now using a previously downloaded version (v0.90 from 2013), updated with CW for AOS4 version 0.95 Beta from desler's website.

I'm actually quite impressed to see Cinnamon Writer working again on my system.

Thanks all.

@broadblues

Updater working fine now

Thank you so much for all your help. I really appreciate it.

As per your suggestion, I disabled RinghioServer in WBStartup and now Updater is working correctly.

When the problem was occuring ...

SYS:System/RinghioServer was enabled in WBStartup.

Ringhio 53.27 (31/03/2014) from the AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition CD.

After disabling RinghioServer in WBStartup, Updater is working just fine and does not lock-up.

Thanks,
redfox

P.S. I disabled RinghioServer for awhile after I installed the original OS4.1 Final Edition Update 2. I was able to update some Enhancer stuff. Then I encountered some issues related to the OS4 kernal and started all over again with another clean install. I did not disable RinghioServer after that install because the Notification messages seemed to be working. But Updater was acting up and I had no clue that it was related to RinghioServer.

Again, thanks so much for your help Andy.

@broadblues

I installed the Hotfix on Jan 12 and have rebooted and powered off and on many times (I power off my machine at night).

I did not install the Enhancer NotificationsServer but I do get some notifications from the old RinghioServer.

Just now, I downloaded AmiDVD

Last message is "Downloading updates data ...please wait"

Updater.log shows that The download was successful and it copied AmiDVD successfully.

Ranger shows a port called UPDATER.1 .... this port disappears after I click the close window (quit) gadget on the Updater window..

Cannot relaunch Updater but other programs launch ok, including web browsers.

I will install the Enhancer NotificationServer to see if that helps.

Re: Updater locking up

@Raziel

I did not want to reinstall everything from the Enhancer Software package just to check to see if Updater was working. So I cherry-picked and installed AmiSphere, Updater, MultiEdit, Multiviewer and whatever gadgets and libraries I thought might be needed. I could not find a list of required stuff, so I guessed as best as I could and discovered a few more items as I progressed. I also downloaded the test version of listviewer.gadget using a link given to me by kas1e. Hopefully it was for the most recent test version of listviewer.gadget.

I purchased Enhancer Software v1.5 before the Enhancer Core was announced. I do not have the Enhancer Core package.

Re: Updater locking up

My question is this ... Should I be able to download more than one item on the list that shows up in Updater?

Trying Updater v53.70 with the new listviewer.gadget that has been release for testing.

I have been selecting more than one item and encountering the following issue ...

Updater v53.70 launches fine and the list is populated fine. If I select more than one item to download and hit download, the download seems to progress properly, but the list does not update when it is finished.

When it is done, the list still has all the items, but the list appears to be greyed out or ghosted as if it is in a deactivated state. Several buttons are blank as if disabled or ghosted.

I waited several minutes and the status does not change.

My system is not frozen, and I can quit Updater but can't relaunch Updater. I have to reset the machine if I want to use Updater again.

Update... Same with Updater v53.65 ....

It is like Updater goes to sleep after downloading the selected items.

I just don't get it...

On December 21, 2019 I installed EnhancerSoftware Special Edition 1.5 from my CD (everything except the SDK). Updater was working fine, and I made many updates using Updater.

Then AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition Update 2 came along.

In order to do a clean install, I formatted my SYS: partition, which wiped out my OS4 install and my Enhancer install.

Updater has been acting up ever since I updated the OS.

Maybe I am missing some obscure required components.

I have what I would consider to be a minimum install of Enhancer. Do I need to install some Enhancer datatypes or libraries?

Re: Updater locking up

Update...

Today, I realized that AmiPDF is the only application that I actually use from the Enhancer package, now that AmiDVD and PartitionWizard are porked.

Calendar and Clock are pretty, but just eyecandy.

MultiEdit and MultiViewer are nice, but I have been using NotePad and Multiview for so many years.

My system is a MicroA1. It has onboard Radeon 7000 and 32 MB video RAM. There is no way to upgrade the graphics. Due to this limitation, I disabled compositing effects years ago. I use OS4.0 look and feel, with square corners on windows.

Today, I removed the Enhancer elements from my system.

Perhaps, I will install Enhancer software in the future on a different system.

@nbache
@all

As far as I can recall, when I got the first freeze on launch of Updater, Updater 53.70 was showing at the top of the screen where the Workbench Screen message normally shows.

Updater 53.70 launched ok a few times today. Then I changed some Updater settings to Startup iconified. My system didn't like that at all. Mouse pointer moved but no menus at all for Updater or anything else. I could still open drawers with the mouse.

I deleted my settings file for Updater and I have rolled back to Updater 53.65 and seemed to work fine after that.

Currently using Updater version 53.65 with default settings (no settings saved).

Re: Updater locking up

@Paul
@All

I have been running fine with AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition Update 2 Hotfix.

Today, I installed some stuff from my Enhancer Software v1.5 CD. Of course, there have been updates since I purchased the CD. I launched Updater fine, updated some of the Enhancer software including listviewer.gadget and updated Updater to version 53.70.

This action kicked me out of updater. Next launch a grey window opened with no splash logo and no list. My mouse pointer was frozen and I had to reset the machine.

Just for the fun of it, I enabled compositing effects and launched Updater again. Launched fine and gave me a good list. However, 58% of my 32 MB video RAM was in use at this point. Quit Updater ok.

I disabled compositing effects again and launched Updater ok a few times. Much less video RAM in use.

Too late to check further tonight.

A MicroA1 has onboard Radeon 7000 and only 32 MB of video RAM. There is no way to increase the amount of video RAM.

Due to this limitation, I have kept compositing effects disabled for many, many years.

There is NO WAY that I will enable compositing effects again to make A-EON Updater happy.

I will check further tomorrow and rollback listviewer.gadget or Updater if necessary. As I indicated above, Updater was working fine while I was running the version included on my Enhancer CD.

NOTE: I do not run Updater from my AmiDock. I go to my System drawer and launch it from there.
