Thing about big bash is thats its evolved into a more of a gathering of minds than a chance to buy and try.
Once a year people get to meet up chat a feel part of the community, rather than just an online member.
Were all getting older, most of us were kids when we started on this road, now were adults with full time jobs and responsibilities. BB gives you the opportunity to embrace those playground days for one day.

I dont know if he has any currently.

Look for 53c8xx based PCI SCSI Card.

@Swoop

I've just switched back to the onboard sound to free up a pci slot for an lsi53c8xx based scsi card.

Do the following

Delete envarc:mixer.pref
Delete envarc:sys/ahi.prefs
Delete devs:ahi/emu10kx.audio
Delete devs:audiomodes/emu10kx

run ahi prefs

set unit 0

VIA-AC97 Hifi 16 Bit Stereo ++
48000HZ
Channels 10
Volume +0.0dB

In advanced settings select `full volume`

Click play test sound

Save.

For your CD Audio, have you connected the CDROM to JP34 or JP33 on the motherboard ? These are the audio in connectors when using the onboard sound.

Run mixer, select ac97 as the device set your levels and save.

You no longer need the soundblaster in then and therefore can be removed if you want to free up a slot.

Plug your speakers into the green connector of 3 at the back. (upper of 3).

As for skipping are you using onboard IDE or an SII based card ? Are you running your disks in PIO or UDMA ?

I almost had a MK III allegro as my first car.

Look like the Austin Brand maybe revived by the nanjing automotive group in 2008 when they bring in the new cars eg: the MG3 and MG5. Non sporty version may be released under the Austin brand not the Rover brand as they would have under MG Rover.

The experienced classic users can always rip off the AmiKit and use the things they particularly need.

In addition, I do not own the "classic" HW anymore. I would like to focus on OS4 instead.

Well last night i thought i'd give it a go.
So i installed Amikit on a PC, zipped it up and copied it over to the classic. Slowly installing it bit by bit over my 3.9 CGX4 partition and replacing components with ppc ones where appropriate.

I can see what you mean about the speed elements, but it is usable. I'll post a few grabs in the gallery of ripped Amikit on my Classic once I've finished.

I'm gonna have a go at installing it under OS4 E-UAE too just for fun.

Interesting pipe dream.
I hope this legal issue gets resolved soon.
Keep an eye on the news / italian forums like ikirsector.net (free translations website always helps)

little bits of information tend to leak out about the italian projects from time to time on there or at least reading between the lines.

Re: OS4 vs OS3.9
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

@AmiGubbe

I have two partions laid out as:-

DH0: 0 - 512MB
HD0: 512 - 1024 MB

On DH0: resides OS4.0 - 68K Fastfilesystem
On HD0: resides OS3.9 - 68K Fastfilesystem

Note this is not an indication of how much size either OS takes up but just my prefered partition sizes.

Both are marked as bootable in HD / MEDIA TOOLBOX

DH0: has a higher boot priority than HD0: So it will always boot into OS4 on powerup.

Unless I boot with nostartup-sequence like xeron says and selected another boot device (HD0).

DF0: still has the highest boot priority so it will always boot from floppy if I want to play a hardware banging floppy based game.

All my stuff which is hardware banging or doesn't work under OS4 cos' the reaper catches it I run under 3.9

This is not a feature of OS4, it possible to have dual boot 3.1 and 3.9 machines too.

Just remember that the initial ESS appears on a native screen, so unless you have a Bvision or other graphics card which is capable of showing the initial ESS on first boot, you'll need to attach an old monitor/tv or have some way of displaying the ESS on your primary display.

Now, the machine does not detect the keyboard or mouse - the machine boots as normal but U-boot complains about no keyboard - if I fiddle with the connection sometimes it works but I think there is something fundamentally wrong! The mouse does not work at all and the keyboard is never seen in OS4 now (i.e. it does not work.)

....

Tonight I will try a different kb, but it seems weird that both mouse and kb are playing up, almost as if somethings either got fried or shorted out.

Thanks in advance,
Rude!

Try battery first.
Are you using wireless keyboard and mouse ?
Could be that the PS2 wireless receiver is going faulty.
If your not wireless it could be a broken wire.

Your keyboard and mouse cables havent got trapped by a desk or something and got damaged, or a sudden horizontal jerk to the rear of the amiga might have damaged the ps2 ports if the cables had no slack in them.

You are allowed to write-protect files.

Indeed we can but thats not very user friendly. Especially in a future revision of OS4 which may or may not attract new users.

OS4 has vunerabilities that 3.X didn't and we should be prepared to deal with malware.

On a classic you had to open the case to get at the roms. It can be done with a system friendly script under OS4, even unprotecting said write-protected files.

I was thinking something of an option in DOS prefs or Workbench prefs to protect system settings.
Malware or the user would not be able to delete, modify essential system files, allow to write to rdb or remove the slb or alter filesystems.

While this option is set only things like screenmode, sound prefs etc could be altered, but not nothing that would stop a the amiga booting through to WB.

Then you could have to option to restore modified preferences.

I know this getting into windows recovery teritory but definatly something worth considering.

Agreed, not strictly related to MP. You mention malware etc that we may encounter in the future as the user base grows.
Will anything be done to automatically, without user intervention, protect kickstart modules / startup-sequences etc. Perhaps at the DOS level against malware.

@ktadd

WOW! nice GUI for an excellent program i use all the time.

Nice additional feature would be to batch process like thempegencgui.

Support for -vtag options would be nice on the gui too

Also a tick box for forcing same quality (-sameq)

Useful when converting mp4(aac) to -vtag xvid -vcodec mpeg4, for hardware divx dvd-players otherwise the video quality is seriously compressed.

Is there and option so the frame rate remains unaltered ?

Edit- I see it is issuing a -sameq already

@salass00

You can test the powersupply by removing the atx connector from the motherboard and ~AC feed from the back.

Put a wire loop accross pin 14(ON(green)) and pin 15(COM)
plug the ~AC back in and the powersupply will think its attached to the motherboard still.

You can check voltages with a meter and see if your drives power up.

Resized Image

On more little quirk my A1c had was, that it sometimes wouldn't boot. I had to turn it off at the case switch, move the bios jumper, turn it on again at the case switch and immediatly off, move bios jumper back to its original position and turn it on and it would then boot.

Good to see some new drivers appearing :-

I've tried every Epson driver I could find on aminet and been through the complete Epson Range of Drivers in turboprint 7.6.
None of them seem to work with my Epson though.
Hope one appears for the USB RX range one day.

Has development of the Amiga Version of turboprint halted ? The linux version seems years ahead interms of modern printer support.

@wizzard_o

Put an 030 - 060 in the classic and use it for programs that dont run on the A1/OS4. Perhaps network it to the A1 via PCMCIA, then that keeps it intact, or if you dont mind breaking the warranty seal you could always tower it.

Keep the case and keyboard for a keyrah project blanking off the ports and mapping the keyrah joystick ports back to the A1200 case ports, thats what i've done.

The NOS keyboard and case become a usb keyboard and can be used with the tower on a subway.

Then add a PPC BVision, PPC Mediator pure 68K AGA etc etc

Few ideas to play with, depends on your budget and availability I guess.

I recommend adding a subway and upgrading to posiden v3 whatever you do to the A1200

I was under the impression Ryu sold his classic set up a while back. While its a great site with some OK articles I dont think it became the one-stop A1/OS4 site it was meant to be.

Might be due to lack of interest or the hosting could of expired etc. etc.
