What's the current situation with the older WarpOS games Wipeout etc? Has that improved since earlier part of this thread, or is powerpc.library still a problem? Should we do a bounty for a new powerpc.library for OS4.1?

Not A3000? Amigakit's order page for example lists A3000, do they need to correct this?

@Hans You could likely use those, of course with the added PC host. I thought the component adapters were relatively simple things, rearranging sync signals and maybe color conversion btu I kindof think not on color space., the radeon does whatever output as VGA and it's a basic translation to component wiring requirements. Other platforms have a VCR sort of software that records what is displayed to the monitor, purely in software on the machine you're using at the time. Do we not have such a thing? If not, should we be begging for it? And then I see the post about srec... I'd imagine the hdmi capture card in a PC is your best bet. I'd go for the USB one that does both HDMI and component... Same price... unless USB2 can't keep up and you also have to add a USB3 card, but I'd still do that. Though if you look at product reviews on Amazon, this brand doesn't score very high. :/ Or http://harkopen.com/projects/open-hd-video-capture-card :) I vaguely remember coming across some commercial video processing board a few years ago, I believe that was an FPGA implementation and could be used with Linux video tools, but may have onbly taken power fromt eh PCI slot, couldnt' tell if there was computer access into it for capture purposes. I was searching for an HD component recorder at the time. Can't remember what it was called or find any google results that sound familiar to it. Most all I get now are FPGA experimenting boards and addon widgets with HDMI or DVI ports, leaving you to pay lots of money and still an empty FPGA and no drivers.

@Elwood
We need both sorts of things. We do need big things like a mesa port for example. But a mesa or gallium API isn't very interesting if there's no software to use them either. Chicken and egg I guess, now that you have gallium, it's possible to port over pointless gimmicks that use it. OpenGL exists in some form for OS4, so we can already have pointless gimmicks ported over to use it.
I do have concerns that all the software we'll ever see is open-source ports from Linux land. I'd worry about that for any Amiga/alike OS, including AROS. If there's nothing or very little original for it, then why not go the easy way and just use Linux to start with?
I think it'd be a bad situation if all any of the Amiga/alike OSes are is just a difficult to port to platform for Linux apps.
And as for apps that are fully supported by their creators on multiple platforms, including some Amiga/alike OSes, well, why not still just use Linux or Windows or whatever isntead of being on an awkward to bring those programs to platform?
We're here and using whichever Amiga/alike OS because we want to, not because it's convenient or reasonable. Many of us are a bit unreasonable people, and so are our desires to keep some Amiga/alike OS on our desk. But we don't care about that, we're enjoying them and having fun anyway. Even if it's just for useless clocks, shell commands, and other crap, but we do on occasion get something truely fun or useful as well.
Stop trying to make sense of any of us using an Amiga/alike OS. That's just a big waste of time and brainpower right there.

So the Valgrind people of course will think AmigaOS as a no priority to port Valgrind to. It's GPL. If someone is interested, they can do whatever they want with the code, and make an unofficial port.

Not me. I'd need VPN and NX. Well, I could use VNC instead of NX, but NX is a better experience, but either way, VPN is required. I'm happy to see more things working, even if through AmiCygnix. I don't think that's such a terrible thing, at least it gets us somewhere at all with things that would otherwise just not happen at all.

It may make for a more productive discussion if people indicate why current things are deficient. For example, a developer considering how to improve Workbench will consider: Why is a new Workbench essential? What's obsolete and should be removed? What's broken? What's missing? What is awkward or hard to use? How to make it easier to use? What's too slow? What's too fast? Should things that appear on screen be moved to a different location? And surely many more questions...

So this allows others to port QT applications to OS4/AmiCygnix? Cool! I don't remember WxWidgets being in the previous AmiCygnix SDK, I'm looking forward to that one until the amigabounty native port is completed.

While it may not be super exciting looking case, sounds like it's got some decent features (cable routing passages, noise reduction materials), at least it isn't a horrible looking thing. I hate my A4000T case, I just haven't put in the time or energy in converting the two other cases I have into a single super-tower for it. Need to combine two cases to have additional expansion slots at the bottom where I want to hack in a more reasonable Prometheus location... Am also part way through converting my A3000 desktop into a tower case, so it has a more reasonable slot situation for my Mediator.

Another thing to consider as something to start with, is to take something that's already ported and working and provides source code, and work with that to learn how to use the compiler tools.

I speculate the 476 core you link to is what AMCC refers to as the Titan. I could be wrong, I'm only guessing. It's is used in the LSI Axxia ACP3448 chip, which sounds very interesting as well, though I do not suspect that to be "the one".

Some things still remain a secret, but we know Xena is one of the chips that will be used, and it's in fact a powerful XMOS co-processor..
It is whatever it is, and it's also irrelevant to this topic.

Uncensored chip you say?
It was not covered by any black squares to hide it like they did for Xcore and the CPU. They haven't said what it is, I'm just guessing what it is, based on that it resembles very much a chip I'm playing with, but it wasn't hidden from view.

Nope, I'm referring to an uncensored chip on the board, it was never covered up. Who's worrying?

@Helgis
1. Is there such a thing as a DDR3 memory controller for PowerPC? Does ANY PowerPC SOC chip have DDR3 support?
2. There are plenty of PCI-Express slots to put SATA3 and USB3 cards into.
3. Judging by the X1000 pictures, they likely chose a chip that offers a number of features all in one chip. I've elsewhere back in January speculated what chip that may be, if I'm right that's exactly the chip I'd use if I made my own board. Does such a combination chip exist with these newer versions of those features that can be used with PowerPC?

That's correct, but early this year Quake 3 has been optimized for SAM under OS4.1.1.
Which still leaves the list at one game. I find this frustrating. I'd love to see HalfLife series. I'd love to see lots of things. They aren't here, and it bugs me. So I very much consider OS4 to not be a game platform right now, because there aren't any worth talking about today. I want very much for this to change. Please, someone, give us high-end games that aren't everyone else's antiques...

How long ago was Quake3? Os4depot dates it as July 2006. Doesn't anyone else wonder why we don't have something more than this list? Surely the SAM and XE/MicroA1 could handle somewhat more than what's come out in the past few years. I'd really love to see more and bigger fancier games. Hopefully those who can will find some time for it someday, it seems our top programmers are very overloaded with other projects. I really look forward to seeing more happen, but I think it will take more than a new performance motherboard to get us there.

Judging by recent history, all we'll see is puzzle games.
What are the past 3 games that put any pressure on an XE or a SAM?
