Hi all
I'm back to OS4 after almost 2 years of absence and having problems with these (apollogies for the rustiness):
1. can't hook shell to kcon: (tried replacin con: with kcon: in toolypes of sys:system/shell)
2. cant get screemodes higher than 1024x768 working. Tooltypes of radeon monitor contain: MODE=1280x1024@85 linux box can display this on the same display, this one didn't work (as installed by os installer) MODE=1280x1024@72 the card is radeon9000pro
3. is mixer part of the os? or contributions?
More to follow, Jack

@Snuffy Quote: Thats great news. But what kind of CPU module did you have? I thought you couldnt get yours fixed because it was a G3?
Typing this on aweb 22 months (yep, almost 3 years) @jahc The dead cpu was G4. Furter details on repair will follow when I'll chill down (if at all?) Getting back to track. Jack

Heh as I said.. outperforms a 020/14MHz quite easily. Too bad more people aren't able to use your great emulator.

Put a : run >nil: Right before c:addnetinterface in your Startup-Sequence.
Don't forget to format your boot partition for SFS.
Good luck!

I expect.... Samantha 440 EP to ship with AOS4.0 during this upcoming Pianeta Amiga.... If not.... then AOS4.0 being released within a month of Sep. 22, 2007. This way, Amiga Inc., if they try to block it can't keep at least 400 extra new AOS4.0 users being born! Also, by Dec. 31st, 2007, there being at least 1,000 Sams with AOS4.0 out there. I for one, will try to at least buy the MB (probably can raise that amount), but can't afford a full blown system at this time , so it will stay in the box it's shipped in. I hope it's at least close to the same speed as an AmigaOneXE G4, 800 MHz. /dream mode on I wonder if, with the FPGA we can get at least a carbon copy of an Amiga 2000 (AOS1.3.3) with floppy drive (880K) support? /dream mode gone BTW, read Helge's post #50, it's excellent. Here.

Support Amiga Fantasy cases!!! How to program: 1. Start with lots and lots of 0's. 10. Add 1's, liberally. "Details for OS 5 will be made public in the fourth quarter of 2007, ..." - Bill McEwen Whoah!!! He spoke, a bit late.

Hi @TMTisFree
Any tips how to skrink boot time to something decent?
Edit Kickstart modules? The new kernel contains extras that don't apply to you particular hardware...

@TMTisFree
I hope You are really this good looking Ms. TitsFree
What about the July-update? Some details and sorry I'm caged...
Maybe the net hangs or something else. Mine just got a bit more faster.
Edit: Search loads of tips from Amigaworld.net too to get the boot time fast.
Edit2: UBoot settings has a "timeout" put one to zero if not needed to dualboot and the other to one second.
Really this is all discussed before so look the older AW discussions or here.

(how many posts can I make in a row in the same thread? :> ) @Hans Quote: I'm certainly not an expert in this area, but I'd expect that all that a driver would need is the PCI card's base address. PC BIOS calls aren't available once an OS starts either, the OS basically extracts the hardware info it needs, loads the necessary driver, and then stops using BIOS calls. The VESA standard should specify how to find the VGA bios; that's all you really need.
You'd need the PCI card's /ROM base address/ (PCI devices have several apertures with different base addresses). There is some trickery to reading a PCI ROM from the OS as it's not really mapped, so you have to swap it into an address space that's already allocated /and/ is big enough (the video card's framebuffer area is great for this). And you're right, once you do that (which we already do in the Radeon driver), it's just a matter of locating the VBE section(s) in the ROM and working with them, you really shouldn't need a PC BIOS in addition to the video ROM.

No, that's not correct. The PCI subsystem and the PCI devices themselves know where the apertures of the PCI devices are mapped. The PC BIOS doesn't maintain control of anything once the OS starts (remember, the BIOS is responsible for getting the system up to a point where it can load an OS, and then go away, that's really it). Of course, many mainboards have other things in the BIOS ROM like IDE controller or video card ROM images -- but technically that's not part of the BIOS, that the PCI boot ROM for these devices integrated into the same physical ROM IC.

@joerg Quote: They were removed, check the release notes of rtg.library version 41.4272. For example my Merlin supports planar modes but on AmigaO4 they are not available anymore.
Hmm, interesting, must have been done after we opted not to implement planar modes in the Radeon driver...

I know I'm a bit late, but I just install OS4 Final on a blank partition and found a long delay before Workbench actually appears. I checked the battery recently and I have verified that the network is correctly set (I post with OS4 Final).
Any tips how to skrink boot time to something decent?
