Thinking of contacting Amiga on the Lake to see if they can send me that more reliable soundcard they mentioned. As much as the system was, you think that reliable hardware would have been shipped inside the unit as opposed to an afterthought. Oh well, guess I get to keep the originals, so free stuff is nice, even if you never will likely use it anywhere else

I had the same issues with the sound card supplied by "Amiga on the lake". You might want to read the "X5000 Proven to Work Hardware List" topic in the X5000 forum at the Hyperion forums. A working sound card will probably solve your issues so getting another one from AOTL or buying a known working one is probably your best course of action.

I D/L http://somafm.com/metal.pls and copied the first URL in the file. I selected "Open URL" in the Tunenet menu and pasted the URL in the Tunenet "Open URL" requester. As soon as I clicked "Open" in the requester I was forced to listen to some awful music but it works.

Re: ILBM or IFF

Since file extensions were originally designed as a means of identifying a specific file type, I would say an ILBM image should have a .ilbm extension. If you look at the original IFF definitions or the IFF registry at http://wiki.amigaos.net/wiki/IFF_FORM_and_Chunk_Registry it is obvious that an .iff extension could indicate dozens (or more) of file types and not a specific file type. Almost any Amiga user will recognize a file with an .ilbm extension as an image file but have no idea what kind of file it is if it has an .iff extension.

I think I have 4GB memory in my X5000 (that's what I ordered) but never checked to see if that's what I got. I remember that the old µA1 worked correctly with some brands of memory but not others. Maybe the X5000 has similar memory sensitivity. I wouldn't take Tony's problem with 8GB as an indicator that X5000 can't work right with more than 2GB memory.

On an OS4 system there should not be a "RAM:Env". The "ENV" was changed to a device on OS4. Upon booting the prefs should be copied to "ENV:" and not "RAM:Env".

EDIT: I've reported the error in the WIKI docs at the Hyperion forums.

My ethernet adapters & router have the MAC address on the underside of the devices below the serial number. It might be worthwhile for users to check on their devices before using Linux to get the MAC address.

No, works fine for me, on my X1000. Well, the main video at the top of the page fails to load, but a smaller video lower down does play (when scrolled into view), and TuneNet continues to happily play.

Thanks for testing the problem. On my system main video at the top of the page is slow to load but if I leave the page at the top the video starts playing and after about 10 to 30 seconds Tunenet stops playing.

Maybe this is another X5000 issue. I just thought whoever maintains Tunenet could take a look to see if there is a weakness in Tunenet. Maybe it would need to be tested on the same hardware as mine.

Odysseys media player is know to be buggy, I see no reason to blame this on Tunenet.

Be that as it may, Tunenet is the only player that gets a locked GUI. I tested these players with the same MP3 file when going to that same site with these results:

AmigaAMP continued playing.
Multiviewer continued playing.
Simpleplay stopped playing but I was able to quit and restart it.
Tunenet stopped playing and had an unresponsive GUI. I could only quit Tunenet by rebooting.

My conclusion is that whatever the problem is, Tunenet should handle it as well or better than other music players.

@amigakit
I've discovered a problem with Tunenet. If certain videos start playing at WEB sites in Odyssey, Tunenet stops playing and has a semi-frozen GUI. I can click on buttons and open menus but nothing happens. I retested several times by going to what I thought was a news item here:

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/un ... ments-site-184419682.html

The problem occurs while playing music from a hard-disk or play a radio station. I tested visiting that site while AmigaAMP was playing music and there was no problem. That would seem to indicate that it's a Tunenet problem.

I'm using an X5000 with OS4.1update1 and only a few programs installed from the Enhancer package (like TuneNet, Multiviewer etc.).

Can anyone else reproduce the problem and can we get this fixed.

I think the only way this can work is if the owners of the operating system are backing it, personally I think in modern computing the operating system is dead if you can't surf the internet comprehensively, meeting established standards of the mainstream. I think its in Hyperions interests to be actively supporting/developing a modern browser even if it is maintaining an active port.

Aside from the great work Hans has done to expand our graphics card options, I don't see much that's been done to improve OS4 functionality. Aside from improved graphics and Odyssey, there is little I can do on my current system that I couldn't do with OS4.0 on my (now gone) µA1. Without an up-to-date browser our OS4 systems will just become expensive game consoles. Personally, I won't find many reasons to turn on my OS4.x computer without complete Internet access. To AEON & Hyperion I would say: Forget making pretty OS4 component replacements and give us a browser that will keep us using an AmigaNG system instead of a PC.

@K-L
Since my older versions stopped working, I don't have any way to compare the new version with older versions. Since the only real purpose of the bars is to get a visual cue to the stereo balance, the bars seem fine to me. I did test version 2.4 (to compare to version 2.7) and the bar movement looked about the same to me. However, the newer version can only scan for 500 stations while the v2.4 can scan for 1000 stations. That disappoints me a lot more than bar movement.

@328gts
Open URLOpen prefs and click the "Enable Debug for this protocol" checkmark gadget for the HTTP, HTTPS & WWW protocols; then save the prefs. URLOpen will open a debug window when it receives a URL that shows the URL it received and the URL it sends to your browser. That should help you determine whether the problem is with Simplemail, URLOpen or Odyssey.

There are other minor complications like the fact that Netsurf installs an ARexx script that can be called to avoid opening a new window for URLOpen calls. Others have custom scripts to accomplish the same thing.

Re: Prefs->Url, dumb it down

@mritter0
After adding Timberwolf to my URLOpen prefs, I have to admit that the URLOpen prefs are a little more complicated than I would like. However, the only simplification that I can think of that doesn't involve rewriting the launch-handler would be to eliminate the HTTPS & WWW tabs and have the prefs program automatically substitute "https://" and "http://www." for "http://" in the HTTP & WWW prefs files. In other words, whatever you enter in the HTTP tab would automatically update the HTTP & WWW files. I think thats what "OpenURL does.

If Colin adds Timberwolf and OWB to the URLOpen prefs there would be little that a user would need to do other than unselecting one browser and selecting another.

Re: Prefs->Url, dumb it down

@colinw
As mritter0 pointed out in his request to simplify the OpenURL prefs, It's more complicated than that. We need seperate entries for FILE, HTTP, HTTPS, WWW & MAILTO. I think OWB (Reaction OWB) and Timberwolf should have entries in all 4 browser categories too. For the MAILTO category I think we need "YAM" and "Simplemail".

Of course, all the entries need to be tested to be sure they work. Also, the entries can be 'active' or 'inactive' and I don't know what happens if they are all active and some entries can't be found.

So why don't you dumb the program down?

Actually, if the OS4 devs would keep the URLOpen default prefs (ENV:launch-handler/URL/Defaults) up-to-date with each OS4 release or with AmiUpdate; users could just click a button in each tab to activate the browser or mailer they want to use. You couldn't get much dumber than that. I think the main reason there is confusion over URLOpen prefs is the failure to keep the default prefs up-to-date.

{f} gets replaced with the selected file if there is no selected file then it becomes

copy clone all "" "{d}{o}"

The better solution might be to wrap the copy command in a (rexx ?) script that can detect the lack of src argument, and fail silently.

You're right. I tested adding a button with the same command to Dopus4 and the same problem occurs. Since I can "Clone" with the internal Dopus4 Copy command, I never encountered the issue before. It would appear that a script is the only solution.

@JosDuchIt
The command I tested worked. I copied the SYS:Prefs directory to RAM:. The directory and sub-directories had the dates cloned.

However, be careful with that command. When I selected the "Clone" user button with no files or directories selected, Filer proceeded to copy the entire source partition to the destination directory; creating quite a mess for me to clean up. Those kinds of quirks are the reason I'm still not using Filer.

I tried adding a user button with the command:

and it worked. The directory date was cloned.
However, I had "Quote:" unchecked in the Preferences 'User Buttons" tab.
