Re: PUZZLE: How to launch a custom script during first OS41FE boot?
Supreme Council
Supreme Council

can you copy over the custom prefs after the installation finishes?

Luckily for you, the system falls back to using the WBStartup drawer if it exists. I guess the solution could be to create that drawer, put your script in it, and when the new installation is run for the first time, it will run the script. The script should then delete itself AND the wbstartup drawer. On the next reboot, the system will boot normally.

Can you not create the wbstartup.prefs on a running installation and copy that to the hardfile via the installer?

You add your script to the WBStartup with WBStartupCTRL from the installation tool. When the system boots, the script will be run, and the last thing the script should do is remove itself again using the WBStartupCTRL tool.

This is how the post install stuff is done on the OS4 Install CD.

The version command uses locale.library to display the date, so it will be converted into the format specified by your settings.

It's definitely being worked on. What's holding it up is the desire to keep adding features rather than releasing betas :)

Re: Db101 betatesters needed

OK, I finally managed to download it (thanks kas1e).

Unfortunately, for me and the numerous tests I threw at it, it's pretty useless.

It complained about a source file having a different name. I have a debug test called "helloworld" and the source is called "HelloWorld.c". I found that a bit strange, as the source files are generally not always given the same name as the target. Imagine a library, the multitude of source files that would make that up, I doubt any one would have the name expected.

I see the source is there, how would it work if others were to contribute to development, what about a repository etc?

Anyway, as it stands right now, it really isn't usable or very friendly. The interface is confusing, and the lack of a single step button is confusing.

Yeah, I know, RTFM! :)

Re: Amiupdate and emulation.library

I have since overhauled the public database and set quite a few of the entries to "update existing only" for those files which have since been deprecated by 4.1 FE.

This should hopefully cure any more errors such as this. If not, let me know.

No idea. I have checked the database entry and all is good.

What does the log say?

Re: Codebench version control

Currently, CodeBench only has plugins to work with CVS and SVN. If you wanted to write a GitHub plugin, I'm sure we can arrange for you to gain access to the materials required to do that.

Quite frankly, I thought you might have written to the CodeBench forums with an enquiry such as this, or even on the internal beta lists.

But I'm replying in public, as you requested...

Boot with no startup-sequence and delete your screenmode.prefs from ENVARC:sys

What does Scout tell you the "Open count" is?

If it is ZERO, then the library /should/ auto-expunge to avoid such problems. That said, I am testing with the latest beta, of which many changes have happened since 0.42, so it's likely that things have changed.

Re: Codebench unregistration

I've looked into this, and I cannot see a problem. Is it possible that you have something that is keeping the library open (Community Client, Autodoc Viewer etc)?

Due to the multi-threading nature with CodeBench, a process is launched to handle the user notifications. It is started by LibInit() and terminated in LibExpunge(). This is why it appears that CodeBench is still registered.

Flush the library, and the registration should disappear.

Re: Amiga developers and coders only
Supreme Council
Supreme Council

Well, you'll have to excuse me, but what is the point of "simply" porting linux software to Amiga?

I was under the impression that most Amiga users use the system to run software that is unique to the platform. I mean, if I wanted to run Linux software, wouldn't it be easier to buy a beige box, install the OS and have full reign of everything available?

Sorry, but I just don't see the reward in "simply" porting foreign software. Surely any bounties or rewards should target native, and exclusive, software. It's not like we are short of any, but the development isn't exactly rewarding.

Reward those that do take the initiative, rather than those than can recompile. There is a massive difference.

@ChrisH

OK then. Convince us here how AmigaOS is the "most advanced" OS.

And please, make it convincing, if you can....

How about: "When all else fails, fire up Windows..."

This thread is trying to imply that AmigaOS is the "best", when in actual fact it is one of the worst for interacting with other OSes. If you want a simple and easy to understand system, then it is great, but advanced? No, definitely not.
