@ktadd

Nice video demos.

I had not seen ClipDown in action before, I will definitely be installing it on my system after seeing it in use for real.

@alfkil

Its always nice to hear about other OS4 users like myself who have returned to using Amiga OS4.x thanks to the sam440ep boards.

They get quite a bad press from some parties for being underpowered and over priced, but for me the sam440ep is the base for very nice silent small form factor computer, that both allows me to do real work and listen to my music without being too loud or imposing.

Thanks to the rdesktop client, an ssh client, AmigaAmp , OWB and netsurf my sam440ep and OS4 now get about the same amount of use as my laptop and more use than my desktop PC (mainly used to play GTA4 and other games). As an added bonus it also runs some of my old favorite Amiga applications including ImageFX4, DirectoryOpus (OS4 version), CygnusED5 (OS4 version) and Photogenics so I am a happy sam and OS4 user.

I hope you enjoy your stay here and enjoy your new Next generation Amiga as much as the rest of us returning Amiga users who have not been put off buy the price of joining the club.

I've updated the SMBFS from 1.73 to the latest version from sourceforge.net on both my ?A1-C and my SAM440ep. I'm currently copying a file of about 1.5 GB which with the older version would before have taken several hours to copy but now takes only some minutes.

Thanks for reminding me that this excellent package has been fixed, as I remembered reading about someone else having the problems that have now been fixed and missed the news at the time that the bug fixed release had been made.

Fast direct connections to my network shared files using my sam440ep is very useful and was the probably the biggest thing missing from my network setup before today.

Thanks for the script I now have samba connection to my XP computer working a treat from my sam440ep, before I only had working connections to my sam440ep using samba.

The network setup on my sam now feels so much more complete.

@wizzard_o

Its good to hear you now have working sound

Plus now you know the steps you will have to go through if you decide to replace the onboard sound with a PCI sound card in the future.

Sorry I cant help further with your USB problems I think you will ether need to speak to your dealer or another flex owner as it just works on my sam440ep non-flex board.

All the USB ports should work both the ones on the back and the ones on the internal header or at least they do on the non-flex version of the board I have, are you totally sure you have then connected up right?

Back in the old days there were two different standards orders for usb pin headers I don't know if that is still the case today but its always worth double checking these things

I guess its also possible that you have some sort of power issue you could try connecting up a powered usb hub and see first if it is recognized correctly and if what you connect works.

and no Catweasel keyboard support make this a very disappointing experience indeed!

As I don't have an Amiga keyboard to test with I cant try connecting one up to my Catweasel mk4 that I use in my PC normally. But if the keyboard port on it dose not work that means that the support for it is missing from the version of uboot on the sam440ep if I understand how it works correctly, so it is probably worth e-mailing acube and asking if they can added it for the next uboot update.

@wizzard_o

Myfirst guess is that all the audio channels are set to the default volume of 0 to fix that you need to do the following to set up AHI before use for the first time and save the settings.

1. open AHI prefs program insys:Prefs\AHI
2. For the "Music unit" select "CS4281:HiFi 16 bit stereo++"
3. set frequency to 44100 (CD quality)
4. set "Volume" to "+0.0dB"

5. Select "Unit 0" select "CS4281:HiFi 16 bit stereo++"
6. Set "Frequency" to 44100 (CD quality)
7. Set "Channels" to 10
8. Set "Volume" to "+0.0dB"

Repeat steps 5 to 8 for unit 1 - 3 then click "Save"

Now AHI should be setup and ready to go now you can test it with now go test it with AmigaAmp and an mp3 of your choice

http://aminet.net/package/mus/play/AmigaAMP
http://www.os4depot.net/?function=sho ... dio/misc/amigaamp-dec.lha

I hope my instructions should now have you up and running again with working audio on your sam44ep-flex.

Any chance of also adding support for using the joystick ports under OS4 to your Catweasel mk4 driver effort? It would be nice to also be able to use the joystick port for connecting regular digital Amiga joysticks under OS4 and the catweasel mk4 has 2.

Its still worth installing the updates as they are free and even if you decide to add a sound card you still want the latest version of the mixer installed.

As I also have a older Terratec card in my PC I am not surprised that your sound card sounds much better than the onboard audio of your AmigaOne, most older onboard audio solutions did not sound very good in my opinion. What did come as a surprise to me is that I am happy with the onboard sound quality of my sam440ep.

@wizzard_o

Have you tried updating to the most up to date version of the sound driver for your sam and using the mixer to mute the other audio inputs including the cd-in input? The reason is that I have hear of others peoples problems with audio noise being fixed in that way with their sam440s as I have not had any problems with my sam440ep (non-flex) sound quality it may be work trying just to see if it helps.

@nubechecorre

I am in the group of people who would love a hot fix now so I don't need to continue running a debug kernel to stop my sam440ep crashing with graphics corruption right away. My sam440ep is very stable running the debug version of the hot fix kernel, it just it would be nice not to have the slight slow down caused by running a debug kernel.

I can quite happily wait on USB2.0 being finished and stable, but I don't want to have to waiting on it being finished before we can get all the other important bug fixes to the OS that are ready for the sam440ep and have now been well tested.

I am not saying that I don't want USB2.0 or all the other interesting and important bug fixes that are being worked on, I would just prefer to see more frequent smaller updates fixing critical bugs than reserve one large release every 6-9 months.

I also want to say thanks to everyone who has worked hard to make OS4 the more modern OS we have today and I enjoy using on my sam most days.

@All

Thanks to this thread I was inspired to register DVPlayer and mainly to show support rather than because I really needed it with already having mplayer and the OEM version with OS4.1 already doing dvd playback.

After a slight false start on dvd playback as had the required plugin with encrypted dvd support installed in the directory of the oem version rather than in my libs: directory I now have dvd playback and avi playback.

So if anyone else has not yet got round to registering but was thinking about it I would say its one of the must have programs for OS4.

I just wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you for all the hard work you have put into making the AHI audio driver as good as you can.

I have just spent the afternoon listening to mp3 using Amigaamp and the OS4 decoder module while creating lha archives of my old A1200HD for backup purposes without getting a single audio cut out, before you started working on the driver I would have got allot of small interruptions to the audio while creating lha archives of hole partitions.

@logicalheart

Welcome to the party :)

I happily post on amiga.org amigaworld and amigans.net depending on what I want to talk about.

Like many of the posters here I have OS4 running as the main OS on one of my amigas my sam440ep 667Mhz (no flex).

As well as owning 2 A1200 towers one with Blizzard 040 and mediator and a second with a BlizzardPPC 060 with SCSI and Blizzard Vision.

2 x A500's and a minimig with an ARM addon board for HD support.

Just because you post on one Amiga form dose not mean you cant use the others as well, just as long as you remember which site you are posting on and it primary focus as you will get more helpful responses if you post on the right site and under the correct topic.

Re: Quickfix trouble

@shadowsun

I think that it may be interaction using USB that triggers the problems.

For example the screen corruption under workbench to windows backdrops happens to already open windows that have not changed after a number of mouse clicks to open more drawer windows.

I can also consistently crash my sam440ep (non flex) under the non debug kernel (of the quick fix) when restoring backups of my system using directory DOPUS4 if I set it to confirm each file it over rights and restore a backup copy of my system: drive or my programs: from my work partition.

I keep backups of my partitions by just making a copy of all the files each partition to a directory on my work partition. I then lha up the folders with my backups and copy the lha files to another computer on my network using ftp. But I also keep the last none compressed copy on my work partition to allow me to easily restore any files I delete or override by mistake without needing to transfer the lha files back and extract them.

I normally do the backup and restore from inside dopus4 and if I try to restore a complete partition by coping the files back and confirming each file to be replaced 1 at a time under the quick fix non debug kernel my system always crashes in an interesting way, here is what happens with the new non debug kernel:

After clicking on the button to confirm overriding each file one as a time after doing this a few hundred times I get the same screen corruption on my dopus screen and the mouse and keyboard stop responding but the clock on the bottom of the status bar continues to update so the system has not crashed completely. If I try the same thing again under but select the option to override all files rather than confirming them one at a time the file copy operation always completes without problems.

Now I have returned to using the debug kernel I can restore an older backup confirming all files as they are to be copied over without problems.

I have gone back to using a debug kernel on my sam440ep (non flex) and that seems to have fixed both my warm boot and graphics corruption issues.

But it could still be some sort of interaction between the USB system and the kernel that was causing the warm boot failure.

@Skov

With the hot fix on my sam440ep 667 I have the same problem soft resets always result in the problem you are describing.

But as I also get graphics corruption with the hotfix on a cold boot that normally always results in a system lockup if I open more than a few draws under workbench.

I have even tried backing up my existing install and doing a fresh install then just applying the hot fix with the same result so it looks like a problem with one of the core components of OS4.1.
