Re: Should I expect better video playback performance? (Southern Island/X1000 Updates)
Quite a regular

Sorry for my off topic response ...

While I have no love for Hyperion, I will only say that I currently require OS4 to make my system work.

I purchased my OS4 system in 2004. I am a regular user not a developer or a beta tester.

Current configuration ...
AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition Update 2 (hotfix)
Plus some bits and pieces from Enhancer Software V1.5

Some day, I hope to have another system capable of using the software updates from Enhancer Software V2 and beyond.

@number6

Thank you for your continuing efforts to clarify the ongoing situation. I really do appreciate it.

I guess I am just getting weary of the whole thing.

@all

???

If there is an issue with OS4 for X5000 then there will also be an issue with OS4 for the new SAM460.

@walkero

Thanks for all your efforts.

I have not tried all functions yet, but I am pleased so far.

Looks good to me using IBrowse 2.5.5
and Odyssey 1.23 r5 (Jan 2, 2022)

Looks better than I expected using AWeb APL Lite 3.5.12 (Mar 7 2018)

P.S. a few rendering issues with NetSurf 3.10
I might have to tweek some settings.

Re: AmiDVD patching

@joerg

Thank you joerg.

AmiDVD is my favourite CD burning software. It is easy to use, and I have made many backup discs over the years (mostly bootable backup recovery disc after an upgrade). It's always nice to be able to fall back to a CD that works. Thumbs up.

@joerg

Thanks for your replies.

I would greatly appreciate an update to AmiDVD and PartitionWizard.

I used AmiDVD for many years to burn backups to CD-R discs.

Just for clarification, should I use the following from the A-EON Enhancer package:
- smartfilesystem
- diskcache.library.kmod

---

Your software which you listed above is on my AmigsOS 4.1 Final Edition CD for AmigaOne XE/SE and MicroA1.

newlib.library was also released with FE Update 2 and a hot fix for Update 2.

Some of these software items were also released with the A-EON Enhancer Software package. I was reluctant to overwrite these items because I was not sure if they were "official" updates or simply replacements created by A-EON.

I'm not a beta tester or developer, just an enthusiastic owner of an ancient OS4 system, who tries to keep up to date.

Thanks,

Re: Micro A1-C, overclocking, PCI cards, etc..

@sailor

Sorry, I can’t answer your questions because I have not attempted these changes.

I purchased my system in 2004, a motherboard bundled with AmigaOS4.

Mine is a Micro A1-C with PPC 750 GX CPU.

I use the onboard a1ide interface ports …
Hard drive connected to the 40 pin connector
DVD Combo drive connected to the 44 pin connector via an adapter

I use the onboard USB ports and onboard 3COM network interface.

Since there were so many errors in the MAI documents, I left the switches at default and never attempted overclocking.

I never tried any cards in the PCI slot. Some people used SIL0680 Interface card for their disk drives. Others had success with 3114 and 3512 cards.

Presumably, there were some U-Boot changes made to allow testing of PCI graphics cards. Since this feature was never released to the public, I assume it did not work as planned. I’m not a beta tester so I don’t know the details.

Re: Timberwolf working AGAIN !

Update...

Ok, I finally convinced Timberwolf to accept amigaworld.net and forum.amiga.org as trustworthy websites. Both of these look fine. I have not tried posting from Timberwolf.

Anyways ... glad to see that Timberwolf is back to life.

Timberwolf uses a vast amount of memory on my MicroA1 system, so I will still rely on my other web browsers for casual browsing.

@328gts

I quit using Timberwolf after it decided that amigaworld.net was an untrusted website. Never could figure out how to fix that. So I tried a new install. First launch croaked at about 33% (as expected).

Second launch succeeded in loading Timberwolf.

When I tried to go to amigaworld.net I get the following message ...

--------------------------------------------------------

This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Timberwolf to connect
securely to amigaworld.net, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.
Normally, when you try to connect securely,
sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are
going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.

What Should I Do?

If you usually connect to
this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is
trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.

Technical Details

I Understand the Risks

----------------------------------------------------------

I am not surprised. This is the same message I got last time I used Timberwolf a few months ago.

I have other web browsers that I can use on my OS4 system,
like AWeb, IBrowse, NetSurf and Odyssey.

Two questions ...

1) Does DvPlayer V54.7 require Enhancer Software?

2) Does DvPlayer V54.7 work on older systems, such as MicroA1 ?

Re: new video: AmigaOS 3.2 on AmigaOS 4.1

@kas1e

Very impressive. It is great to see such high screen resolution, and so much happening on the screen.

Obviously, the X5000 is much more powerful than my ancient OS4 system. I am limited by system RAM and VRAM.

I created two AmigaOS 3.2 emulations on my MicroA1.

First one is very simple ...
A2000HD with 68000 CPU, 1MB chipram, 8MB fastram, OCS, NTSC.
I use standard icons, because the GlowIcons look chunky.

Second emulation takes alot of RAM on my system ...
Configured for 68020/68881, KickA1200.rom, 2MB chipmem, 8MB fastmem, 8MB gfx memory, uaegfx and Picasso96.
I use the GlowIcons, but it would look better with a higher screen resolution. Currently using uaegfx 640×480 32 bit.
1024×768 32 bit looks nice but takes way more RAM.

Re: Web browser in 2021?
Quite a regular

@Primax

Sorry, please forgive my previous comment...

Reading some comments on OS4depot joggled my memory.

One of the earlier releases of Timberwolf contained everything needed to make it run. Some of the updates did not contain a complete release of all the required files and directories. As a result, we had to copy the new files into the old drawer to overwrite the old files that needed updating. Each time I updated Timberwolf, I kept a complete backup of my previous version to fall back on if the update failed.

I suspect you have somehow lost some of the files or directory structure that are required by Timberwolf.

As per comments on OS4depot ... there is a "fix".

If anyone has problems to Start Timberwolf just Download the older Version from Aminet and overwrite these Files with the Files from the newer version from OS4 Depot Archive!

This is from 2019, and I have not tested this theory. Assuming they are the correct distributions it should work. In theory, the older version on Aminet would setup the required directory structure and files, and the update on OS4depot would update the Timberwolf program and some related files.
