Re: Trying to get a Radeon HD 7750 working in an AmigaOne XE

@Helloworld

Your PCIGraphics.card and RadeonHD.chip are the most recent versions.

Have you get a separate monitor driver for the 7750 in devs monitors?

I found 1 Sedna card on Amazon. Link

You can also buy them directly from Sedna's shop.

Link

Bear in mind that the card may not initialise on the XE. This is the case with anything above HD6000 cards on the Sam440 and is said to be down to Uboot. Since the XE's Uboot is older it's likely to have the same limitation unless something was different in the Sam440 version.

Do you have access the RadeonHD driver or do you just want to try and see if you get a display first? It may be worth asking A-EON if they can supply you with the limited demo driver included with FE for Sam460 for testing purposes.

I had an X1550 (PCI version) on my XE back in the days of the beta driver. It's been too long a time to remember specific tips but it's worth having 2 monitors handy while you're experimenting.

Remember that if you can't get this card to work that you can still use the adapter for older HD series cards. I know that the XE is capable of running at least HD4000 series cards.

Good point about Blitz. I shouldn't have overlooked that. Amiga.net.pl are also translating their Blitz Basic book to English.

@AmigaSociety

You should be able to run AMOS PRO under EUAE. It's freeware now and I managed to find the manual.

http://www.classicamiga.com/content/view/5027/176/

You should also checkout Red Pill. It's another piece of software you'll have to run under EUAE but it's game creator that requires no programming skills so you can just concentrate on graphics and game design.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bzh_OIZAPOZocEkyNm9VZWJscjQ/view

There are various videos on Youtube. At least one of them should serve as a tutorial.

It would be nice if there was something like Red Pill for OS4.

Re: Sam440ep-Flex: upgrading gfx to Radeon HD4350

@trixie

The 4350 has much higher core clock and at least double the memory bandwidth of the 9250.

While there is no 3D support you should see a noticeable difference in software using compositing.

I'd recommend using the 4350 as the main card and keeping the 9250 as an exclusive output for Warp3D software and maybe fullscreen video since the 4350 lack overlay.

Sadly the Sam440 seems to be being left behind by Warp3D Nova. The supported 7000 and upwards series cards fail to initialise on the Sam440. I've read that a Uboot update could solve this but none has been forthcoming.

@Mikey_C

Some of the truth about Petro came out in the wash a decade ago.

Quote:
Bill McEwen: While they began their work, Petro sold all of our computers for 75,000.00 to a company in India and quits. The sales of the old hardware was generating about 150,000.00 per month in revenue. We have over 20,000 units left, when he sold all of them for 75,000.00

Olaf Barthel: I heard the story, and it was just what I expected Petro to do. Petro for me was the kind of person you just couldn't trust. Ever. After shaking hands with him, I always counted my fingers.

Most people missed some of the finer details that came out of that court case. Petro showed back up again in 2012 offering 500 NOS A1200 Magic packs for €150 + tax each. Was the saviour merely shifting on stolen goods to the community?

A lot of Hyperion's old licenses are not valid for Amiga OS4 and would have to be renegotiated.

@Mikey_C

There is no 68k version of Heretic II. You need the OS4.x version of Wizard library to install it, I don't know of any other impediments to installation.

I had Heretic II installed on my XE G4 and it was so flaky that you couldn't make any real progress in the game.

"Digital" mixer.. definitely do-able. The Xena chip has no analog, but it can handle serial streams with amazing speed.

Would it be possible to use the XMOS chip for mixing/switching digital video too? That could serve a number of different applications.

Would it be possible to slave another computer to the XMOS and control it directly with the keyboard and mouse or other input devices from within OS4.

Having the Vampire hardware on a Xorro card would be really nice if you could use the host X1000 or X5000's input devices to control it and switch or mix the video output of the the 2 systems.

Both the Radeon X1xx0 and HD4xx0 series cards work on the XE.

If you're seeing Uboot then the problem isn't in with that or the adapter.

It must be back in 2009 when I was testing the driver with my old XE and an X1550 so my memory of this is a little hazy now.

There were certain conditions under which a conflict would occur between which card you selected to boot from in Uboot and which driver the OS would try to run. The result is that you the computer hangs when the OS loads the video driver and takes over control of the system from Uboot.
If this is the problem you're describing then it just a configuration issue.

In the Uboot menu, under the video options, you can select to boot from AGP or PCI.

I had the luxury of 2 monitors so I was able to run both cards at the same time but the system would hangs if things weren't configured right.
My advice if you re-test this is to start with the XE running your 9000 or whatever in the AGP slot and make sure that Uboot is set to boot from the AGP slot. Then install the Radeon HD card in the PCI slot and check that the system boots. Then install the Radeon HD driver and do a hard reset. Hopefully the system should reboot running the AGP card. If so go to the screen mode prefs and test one of the modes offered for the Radeon HD card.

I'm sure if I was able to attend I could troubleshoot the system but hopefully my post is enough get you up and running.

I know you guys have a range of different hardware including AmigaOne XEs and Sam460s.

I would like to know if Radeon SI hardware will work in the XE. This is more for the benefit of other users since I have an X1000 and sold my XE long before such tests could have been made.

It would be ideal if one of the club members has a low profile Radeon SI card although a full size card can be used for testing purposes with a little more effort.

All you need then is a PCI to PCIe adapter such as this one that has the recommended PEX8112 PCI to PCIe bridge chip.

http://www.ecrater.co.uk/p/18614175/s ... o-pcie-adapter-card?gps=1

I don't mind chipping in a few quid via paypal to whoever makes the purchase. If 10 or 15 people chip it's pocket change.

That would be nice. I never played the game all the way through but still have the discs. I wonder if Hyperion would be still be able to sell the WarpOS version under the original license. Could be an extra revenue stream if they made it available as a reasonably priced download.
