Re: Ram limit on Sam440ep

@jahc

It would be a shame if it is limited to 512MB. My understanding is that the CPU can address 1GB. So if it's a 512MB limitation that is because of ACube's decision, or do you think there are other technical reasons?

I would gladly pay the extra price to get the additional 512MB of ram.

@AmiKit

I checked on the 1.5.2 update and there was no history or release notes for AFA_OS 4.3

Also the bug in the title bar graphics rendering is still there (when you open programs on their own screen.) I was hoping it would be fixed.

@VooDoo

Wow, OS 4.0 too? Amazing. Now all we need is OS 3.9 and we'd be set :)

And of course downloads. But I am confident Joerg will eventually figure out how to get this browser to download :)

Thanks!

@QuikSanz

Don't do it !! That is, if you want to run 2 GFX cards... I guess not as much of an issue if you had a MicroA1...which is pre-fixed from factory...

@AmiKit

Personally, I would go for the 256MB Radeon 9250, even though it may be a tad slower (would you really even notice?), but that extra 128MB will probably serve you well after OS 4.1.

How is OWB on your 1.2GHz cpu? I am suffering with a 800MHz 750GX in my micro...I would love a speed boost.

@Elwood

Thanks for the pics. Yes it seems weird. In prior years at this show I think there were alot more people, at least visible in the photos.

Now we have not only OS 4.1, but new hardware to run it on, and for sale...and not alot of people show up.

Weird. But then again, Acube did sell out pretty quick of the Sam 533 boards and were very busy on E-mail, so that bodes well.

Perhaps people aren't as likely to travel at the moment with all the uncertainty in the economy?

@joerg

Ok great thanks. How many network connections can it make at once? Ibrowse you can do upto 32. Can you show them like with IBrowse or tell how fast the data is being downloaded? Just a bit more info than the progress bar would be nice. :)

Otherwise OWB is great, i agree. Need a faster A1 than my Micro :)

@orgin

I guess what I was after was more of a free form discussion of a wish list, rather than plunking down every single suggestion onto the OS4 depot site...

Like a brainstorming..after that, the suggestions that make sense could actually be posted there.

Ok, now that I have your attention... :)

I would like to know what features people would want to see in OWB 2.11 or future?

For me, personally, I would like to see:

-auto complete address bar
-drop down history from address bar (that is saved)
-download manager like Google Chrome or FireFox
-tabbed Browsing
-better fonts (current one is a bit wide)
-more information on network status
-memory cache for pages and images
-speed optimizations

Floating "4.1" on this site
Just popping in
Just popping in

Ok guys, it looks nice, but it's really sucking my CPU while using OWB on my MicroA1, and even on my Quad Core Phenom PC I can notice the CPU usage up about 4% when on this site.

Maybe you can

1) Get rid of the floating, cpu sucking "4.1" or
2) Have it magically stop after 10 seconds or so...

Thanks

@2crazy

I have a Sapphire 9250 PCI 256MB and it works great in OS 4.1. DVI is supported and yes, widescreen resolutions are possible by adding the MODE= tooltypes in the monitor file.

I think you would be happy with the 9250 256MB version :)

@Shadowolf

I agree. OWB is already slow, ok well not bad, on my 800MHz MicroA1....so really I would prefer a 1+GHz OS4 machine with 1GB ram.

Sam with 1GHz+ and 1GB ram and 9250 256MB would be awesome.

@Troels

I think the Sam is only a downgrade in terms of pure CPU performance. Everything else would be better/faster. I am comparing it to the MicroA1 in this case.

Of course your XE with additional slots does count for something...in this case you should compare it to the Flex board :)

Will OS 4.1 be available for the Sam Flex board? I would prefer to get this board as it has 3 PCI slots...

Any ETA on the flex board?

@Chris

It's very good. I've installed it on Vista on my Macbook at work and it's faster than IE and seems pretty light-weight.

It even has fastlinks like ibrowse!! Wow!!

If this could be ported to Amiga it would be amazing.
