Re: Company<->User communication...Is it still a thing today?

During AmiWest 2020 Trevor announced ES 2.0 release date. It should be Christmas 2020. May I ask, where is it? Or at least, where is communication?

Don't want to bother someone to disconenct his graphic card if there is no chance to succeed. Maybe I should give the adapter back?

Anyway, I've put it in a 33Mhz, free slot and booting takes much, much longer. Black screen, before UBoot takes 40s and USB/SATA initializations takes another 45s.Then everythink ok. Ranger shows PEX8111 PCI Express to PCI Bridge.

OK, adapter has arrived. Faster then I expected.
But it's based on PEX8111. It was advertised as PEX8112
Hans mentioned it should work too but it was long time ago and Max mentioned only PEX8112 and PI7C9X, lately. Will it work?

If I plug in, a borrowed HD7750, it should show an UBoot screen, right? I don't have a RadeonHD driver yet.

An up to date list of all working models would be great. Just limited to SI and Polaris. I believe Hans don't have time to update his website, anymore.

Thanks m3x,

Once again, amazing job you still support SAM440!
About RX550 and UBoot screen. Is it sth you may repair in a future?
Can you write what RXs show UBoot screen?

@All

Thanks guys but I need more SAM440 centric info. I'm aware of Hans's site. I have lots of space im my cace, so don't need a riser or a cable. There was a firmware update in 2016 already:
ACube Systems is pleased to announce a new release of the U-Boot firmware for its Sam440ep motherboards (mini-itx and flex versions).

What's new in this version:

- improved gfx cards setup, it solves compatibility problems with some Radeon HD cards
- better internal PCI bridge setup for a slight faster RAM <-> VRAM transfer speed
- added PEX 8112 PCI – PCIE bridge setup (used on some Radeon HD PCI variant cards)
- added a new menu entry to enable/disable IRQ on an external PCI gfx card
(try disabling IRQ if the system seems freezed after loading the AOS4.1 kickstart files, for example)

...but it didn't help everybody:

https://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/v ... wmode=flat&order=0#838212

As you can see even present update changed nothing, that's why I will buy ES only if my choosed graphic card is supported/tested.

ACube/AEon - more info about PCIe cards in SAM440, please

Hi,

My PCI->PCIe adapter will arrive next week, or so. Thats why I'm asking for more info. I have my doubts if it works so I've decided to go a safe path. I have updated a firmware sacefully then ordered PEX8112 based adapter (only 20$) When I get it I want to borrow a graphic card to see if it works.
ACube announced...

Quote:
Support for Radeon RX is still under development and for this reason, with many models of gfx cards, U-Boot does not show any output, but the card works fine once the operating system is loaded.

My question is. What GPU is the best option in terms of compatibility with SAM440?
My options are: HD7750 or RX 550. The first has better support, the second is faster but does not support a soft reset. Both are not used. Any advice? I'm asking more about UBoot/adapter things.

After sucesful first steps I will buy ES2.0 of course but before, is there a possibility to get a driver to test the adapter/graphic card/UBoot? I know RadeonHD Lite exist. Does RX Lite exist? It would be great to have a limited, lite version to test before buying.

Hard to say. Everything is so slow that I have to find a way to play 144p/240p videos. Then I will try to do several tests with the same video...but it looks random, now.

Hi,

There are only two resolutions available for me in YouTube, 360p and 720p while pressing quality gadget. The same video on tablet is available from 144p upwards. How to change it? Its hard to test YT on SAM440 with enything more than 240p ;)

Beta2 was very stable for me. Beta4 crashed twice, so far. The same crash as for samo79 and this one:

@kas1e

The same way to reproduce, yes.

You can try...Run Timi (soft synthesizer from Contribution on AOS4 FE CD)
Run Horny/Settings. You have to have empty MIDI cluster window. Then try to CHANGE output (cycle gadget) to Timi. Do it second time or try to close settings and bang!
If you use ADD button to add Timi to the cluster window everything is OK.

I will test as soon as I'm home :)

EDIT> Maybe a message 'you have to ADD sth before CHANGE' would be appropriate?

Re: Horny Source code on Github

Yeap, its still there...
No need to run debug. Its always the same.
Disconnect all MIDI devices. Run Timi/SoftSyn then Horny. Enter Project/Settings/Midi Ports. You will see empty Outputs, No
Midi Cluster.
Try to change it with cycle gadget below to Timi/Softsyn. It's not possible and when trying to close Project Settings
window, bang, the crash.
To avoid this situation you have to open Phonolith or connect MIDI keyboard. Sth which appears in Midi Cluster window. Then
you can change
it to Timi/SoftSyn or sth else without the crash.
If its not enough or not place to discuss I may contact you by email

Hi,
Is it OK to report a crash in 1.3 version or wait and check new binaries? Its not related to GUI but Prefs and MIDI Clusters, probably...

Re: HD-Rec and audio recording

Not too shy to talk

@trixie

Yes, I have. It works but gives me a sound which is too loud and distorted (dont know exact word, overload?)

The reason I ask about HD-Rec is I'm not the only person with this problem but maybe we do sth wrong. HD-Rec's prefs/audio/input is set to mic. I/O Control/record source is set to audio. Scopes are happily jumping up and down while using mic but after pressing the rec button nothing records.

BTW. Sound Prefs from AEon shows some enormous numbers '-107374192dB', one slider is not fully visible and test sound does not work.

I had to manually edit HD-Rec's global_os4.config text file because it needs AHI Prefs and MidiPorts.

All these progs give the results (the samer mic) so different that it's a little bit frustrating.

HD-Rec and audio recording
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Hi,

I try to play a little bit with audio/music programs. I've tried audio recording with microphone connected to my SBlive! So far...

AHIRecord - the most reliable but just recording
AE4 - powerful but there are problems with MIDI (instant crash) and has old GUI.

Has enyone managed to record audio from microphone in HD-Rec, is it possible?

Re: MIDI keyboard

Not too shy to talk

I'm happy to report that my M-Audio Keystation 61 MK3 MIDI keyboard arrived and it works out of the box

PianoMeter showed the pressed keys and Horny listed M-Audio as in and out in a settings just from the start. Then I changed output to SoftSyn and voila...the sounds flowed. I have to dig AOS4FE CD out and install Timi.

The size of the keyboard is just perfect. After more tests I will report it as 'working' in "USB devices that work..." thread.

Thanks for everyone involved :)
