AmiDVD doesn't recognize the drive
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

I was going to try re-burning my system iso on the Amiga using AmiDVD.

It doesn't seem to recognize the drive. But I can read existing data DVD's using this drive.

I added p5020sata.device 1 to the tooltypes. But that didn't make any difference. Mounter shows it as mounted.

Known problem?

Paul

edit: Enhancer 1.5. Looking for information from the icon, it won't read the version number of AmiDVD.

edit 2: output in a DOS window when opening AmiDVD:

SCSI command 46 00 00 00 00 00 00 10 00 00 failed
sense: 70 00 05 00 00 00 00 0a 00 00 00 00 20 00 00 00 00 00

@nbache

HI Niels,

Yes, I got through those steps last night. But it wouldn't let me enter any text in the blank fields when I tried to enter text there.

I got rid of the 68k version and tried the OS4 version again tonight, and it worked as expected.

Forgot to reboot last night after running the install script, maybe?

@MichaelMerkel

I KNEW I used to have a different url program. The OS4 version of OpenURL didn't seem to allow any editing. So I removed it and installed the 68k version. Works great! I can now click on links in Simplemail and have them open in Odyssey.

Thank you, thank you, thank you

Paul

BTW, Michael, do you use Yam? Just wondering if it does IMAP yet. I don't have any POP3 accounts.

Classifieds working?

Sorry if this is improper here.

I was going to put a bunch of my A1-XE parts up for sale, but can't find a place to add text after clicking on the "Add a Classified Ad in this category" link.

Catweasel MK3 flipper with cable and Teac floppy
Infineon 1 GB (2) DIMM's worked great for 2 GB total
G4 CPU module with copper pipe heatsink fan/cooler
Several SiI SATA cards (3512, 3114, 3112)
NEC USB2 PCI card with additional internal splitter hub
Radeon 9250
1 PATA HD Samsung 20GB (for PATA boot)
3 SATA HD 1TB

Make individual offers on above

Bare A1-XE motherboard (Kurt Grach USB/DMA fix) free plus shipping, probably no good. I suspect a bad Mai chip. I had lots of PCI slot problems toward the end.

Thanks

Paul

forgot one: Toshiba DVD writer PATA

@Petrol

Hi Petrol,

I changed the lines in my prefs to read like yours without the "URL=". Rebooted. But I still don't get any action out of Odyssey to open the link in the email. I've tried it with and without Odyssey already being open.

There's got to be something else in those lines, I guess.

Thanks

URL prefs

I went through and edited the URL prefs to include Odyssey and SimpleMail.

I don't understand the meaning of the commandlines, so I simply typed in what showed for Netsurf in the Odyssey lines as such:
File "URL=*"file:///%s*""
HTTP "URL=*"http://%s*""
HTTPS "URL=*"https://%s*""
MAILTO "MAILTO=%s"
WWW "URL=*"http://www.%s*""

But I tried a couple links (http and HTTPS) in some emails and clicking on them does nothing. What do I need to change?

@Gregor

Thanks for the Drag and Drop hint. That works fine for now.

I don't think the fix is rfeleased yet. I ran the MUI update a few days ago from the website.

@Gregor

I am using "Sounds" prefs. I tried both now. The problem was something simpler. Trixie had it: I had not configured units 0-3. Working now using Enhancer's Sound prefs.

Thanks for chiming in. I learned more in the process. (I've foregotten so much about the Amiga the past two years!) I didn't even notice the difference when Prefs said "Sound" rather than "AHI".

I bought a used PCI M-Audio Envy 24 card for my X5000. It plays the test sound beeps in Prefs and passes through sound from the Mic to the speakers. But it seems to be unable to play any sound from a sound file. (aiff, wav, or video sound)

I think I have now tried every Envy 24 setting in prefs.

Any help appreciated.

@Paul

I removed the clock from the Workbench. SImplemail no longer locks up the computer when shutting down.

So what is it? Is it a Clock problem, or a Simplemail/MUI problem?

@Paul

I tried asking for a password reminder, got a temp password and then could get in. Changed to my own password and could still get in. Yay!

Then I tried today, and I couldn't even finish typing my password. It started beeping with each key stroke toward the end of the password, as if I had used too many characters.

When it worked I noticed the cursor appeared at the left end of the log in and password line. Now when I can't get in, the cursor appears in the center of the text boxes. Don't know if that's significant or not.

Simplemail shutdown locks up system
Quite a regular

I remember reading something about an MUI glitch causing problems like this if some MUI element of the program is moved.

I can open Simplemail, fetch and read messages, and even send a message (IMAP), but when I close the window, it doesn't actually close, the mouse freezes, and I have to do a case-reset-button to restart again.

Is this a known problem? Is there a fix?

@smf

OK. The partitions now show up. Imagine my disappointment to find that I had formatted them somewhere along the line! So much for recovering my data and several programs.

Has the guy working on Final Wirter ever finished his work? At least I could get that back. All I have at this point is the original floppies. . . if they're even any good anymore.

Thanks smf.

I needed to change my email listed on the board for my account. Now it won't let me log in anymore. It says the Board Administrator function is no longer open. Who can I contact?

@LiveForIt

I have "Mounter" directed to the correct inteface now. The old drive shows up and lets me "mount" it. But the icon that shows up won't do anything when I click on it. "The icon(s) have no default tool(s)." is what shows up on the workbench titlebar.

The icon shows up named HO2:SFS02 (all correct)with the "hand" on the icon. This was one partition on the old mirrored back up drive in the XE.

This drive is connected to a Sii3112ide SATA card. The current backup drive for the X5000 is normally plugged into that card, too, and is working fine.

Oddly, I had one DOS7 formatted partition which simply shows up automatically on the Workbench as a working icon. That partition is empty, and is labeled FFS.

Progress, I guess, but no prize yet.

@LiveForIt

>> mounter has tooltype that sets what device to use.

Ahhh. . . I have never tried to use mounter 'til now. I didn't know that. That just might get me going on reading my own drive. I'll have to put one of the original A1-XE SATA drives in the case and try that out. Maybe I can get at my own data yet.

@Neils

I think I've managed to use enough combinations of DH,HD, and HB that I should be safe. I'll see next time I get that old drive in again. I noticed my new SSD for the 5000 appends an "n" after the drive identifier , i.e. DH0n. . . I assume for ngfs.If that makes it different enough, then I have plenty of possible combinations.

Once again, thanks guys. I've never been a "professional" when it comes to the Amiga. I knew just enough to get myself in trouble sometimes, and with the XE limping for a year or so, I've forgotten much of that.The X5000 is really shaping up quite nicely now.
