Re: Airprint betatesting
Amigans Defender
Amigans Defender

I gave this a quick test. I have a Brother DCP-L3560CDW which works with AirScan.

Upon selecting the airprint.device, it popped up a requester to select my printer but there was only a "print" not "save"button. I clicked "print" but maybe that was a mistake as it got stuck communicating with printer and I couldn't close or cancel the job. I rebooted and went straight in for a print from Notepad. That needed me to reselect my printer but other than that worked! The fact it pops up with a print preview is really nice.
After printing I tried printing again and ths time I got a "Could not open file '/spool_1/spool_1'" and that's all I've got out of it since (it'll probably be OK for one print again if I reboot).

edit I re-selected the spool directory as that was blank, and that seems to have resolved that issue.

Re: infinite icons theme pack

Happy new year 2025 everyone!!!
This year is going to be exciting!

What is Infinite icons Theme Pack?

Infinite icons Theme Pack is a completely new icon/theme pack designed for Amiga OS4/AmiKit,
I would consider the product to be more of an icon pack than a comprehensive theme, but some parts of it belongs
a theme category.

Start of the project:

Infinite icons Theme Pack started in early 2024, the product didn't have a name until now
that it would even become a product you could buy.

Originally, the intention was to make cool icons and wallpapers for AmigaOS4
not many of these are available and the newest ones are from years ago.

Wanting to do something for the Amiga:

After many different test versions, the idea arose to make this a real payable product and why not
when I have always had such a dear connection to Amiga and there is no such product available.

Project workload:

If I had originally realized how big the project would be, if only done with one different color option
and with 4 different drawer versions, so I wouldn't have promised/advertised that these would be available with
7 different unique colors and even for two different platforms (AmigaOS4 and AmiKit) with icons of different sizes,
(AmigaOS4 256x256 pixels and AmiKit 96x96 pixels), well I had promised these and I will do what is promised for the price which considering the amount of work is ridiculously cheap 😊

Release date:

This is what many have asked and I have answered that 2024-2025 because there has been no information at all how
how long will it take to make these and will I succeed in making an easy installation for consumers or not,
or does everything have to be change icons manually one by one, so this is still unclear.

Now I'll give you a target release date that I hope to keep, and what would be a better day than
23 July 2025 when the Amiga brand turns 40 😍

I would like:

I have used all my skills and every free moment I have had for this product,
i would hope that the product is not distributed among Amiga users so that it is not bought, i think so
Amiga users are exactly the group that doesn't really care about piracy, especially when it comes to it
Amiga related new product, I'm the same myself, happy to pay for a good product.

Future:

Let's see how you buyers/users receive the product, you never know what the future will bring.

Updates for those who bought the product are definitely coming, and these are mostly repairs or redesigns
icons from an icon or even new icons and wallpapers.

Feedback:

Then when the product is published and gets users, I hope for feedback, whether it's negative or not
positive, then I will try my best to correct possible errors in the icons if they appear.

Project status at the moment:

I am quickly making the Corel files of all colors ready, after which I will start making the icons as info files for Amiga OS4, and then the same work for AmiKit.

Regarding the Corel files, the work is approximately 85% done.

@flash
thanks, I forgot to regnames - good tip!
And printf+ifdef is really good tool - I was using it in the last millenium, and using it still

BTW, I found there is CodeWarrior Development Studio for Power
Architecture
from NXP. Even is the version for QorIQ CPU (=P1022). Did somebody test it?
At least for disassembler.

Because I am not found yet SPE capable disassembler.VdaPPC has AltiVec support, but not SPE.
SPE and Altivec instruction opcodes partially overlapping, so with VdaPPC I can check if there is SPE-SIMD code, but not easilly read the code.

Huno do you think there is a chance that some OS4 Ports, could find a way on PiStorm 68k ? I dont know so much about the work it would need. I just feel the PiStorm has a unleashed power and got Warp3D running. i try to compile c++ to amiga with bebbos amiga-gcc. I try the game "Postal" and nearly all files compile only main.cpp and game.cpp gave me errors. Just wish i would have more knowledge about how to port.

IMHO best debugging for "sunday sometimes" programmers is massive use of "printf" in #ifdef #endif blocks.
So you can have easily a debug or a release build modifing only a single parameter.

If you want look inside generated asm code with GCC you have to use "-S" and "-mregnames" mixed with others parameters too like "-O1" "-O2" "-O3" and others.
In this way you can appreciate also compiler's optimizing patterns and strategies, it works also for Altivec and SPE code.

Make a good debugger for AmigaOS is not trivial.

@mcleppa

It would be very helpful if the user could add a printer manually by specifying an IP address. The 'scan' only looks on the same subnet as the Amiga itself.

Hi, HP DeskJet 3635 - successfully connected and printed test pdf

Amazing work!

PS. However, AirScan can not connect to the same printer/scanner while scanning preview doc.

@mcleppa

Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M477fnw. Works with AirScan.

Can't find anything in settings to add the spooler dir.
Search finds the printer, but when I try to add it, it locks up the program.
I also get the message "Could not retrieve printer attributes"
No error log shows up in Ram:
When I try to read the settings file in Multiviewer, it gives the message "Not enough memory."

Thanks for climbing back into the work for Airprint. I believe this is even more crucial for the Amiga than Airscan.

That is sadly lately not the case anymore...at least not with the enhancer bug tracker...I have a bunch of bugs open since months which haven't been picked up nor commented on, so I don't even know if the tracker is still the way to report stuff, let alone my fading interest to invest time to report them because of that

Thank you!

Version 54.22 no longer has issues with getting its own version string. This also fixes the "not found" issue in Updater.

No problem- glad the new update is working for you. Thanks again for the feedback. Let us know if you find any other bugs.

We have eliminated majority of bugs over the last few years and the latest Commands are mature and working well for many users. The functionality has been expanded - see the official Wiki for the enhancements that have been added to our Command set. same for os3 and os4 mean more messy code, and no use of specific os4 only bits

You will notice that our Commands are developed and released regularly. This commercial development needs to have one code base that can be updated easily and used across 68K, PPC and future ARM implementations. We cannot tie the Commands specifically to Hyperion's library changes as we cannot distribute these libararies with our platforms.

Quote:
Mattew versionin reimplementations with 54.x theme, cleary point on cheap dirty move,

Our Commands have been versioned v54.xx for some years. Hyperion's commands were v53.xx when we released them.

The V54.xx components are part of the Enhancer Software V54.

I just reinstalled the SDK and now have GCC v4. I'm wondering, where can I get the latest stable version of GCC?

Is there an easy download available, or do I need to recompile it myself?

@elfpipe
thank you for effort. Spotless in very nice piece of software an looks very easy to use.
I will make more Spotless testing, what works and what no so good.

In meantime i found, that most problems was with debugging my -O3 and vectorized code: for example, if I place breakpoint to some function, and in heavily optimized code exist symbol with function name, but function itself not exists, because it was unrolled directly to main() body.
So I will made more testing with -O0...
