Font install by installer/script
Just popping in
Just popping in

I'd like to know if there is a proper way to install a new font to the system.

Manually I should do the followings:
- Start TypeManager select the source and system fonts drawers then install the font
- To be shown properly I have to modify hinter attribute to no hinter in TypeManager

Could it be done by a script somehow?
That would be nasty if I have to explain these steps to the user during install.

AFAIK TypeManager do not accept commandline parameters and doesn't have an arexx port.

Where are that font attributes are stored?

Thanks in advance for the help!

@Jack

I had the impression that when the OS4 USB stack doesn't
automatically mounts a device by startup you won't be able
to use it (yet).

Using a "mounter" kind of programs afterwards doesn't work
with USB ... or am i completely mistaken here?

AmigaAmp used sndfile.library (m68k) to access aiff files, dunno how much overhead is there (mayne not at all when all io is ppc native), but I prefer the bultin analog playback of the CDDA. Why not use it. Setup freedb/cddb with playcd and viola!)

Edit: and analog playback is less noisy than extaction the sdda via software...

Point taken. Will check the previous one and see if it's ok and then if problem reoccurs, I'll short the contacts in the holder.

Meanwhile new battery seems to do the job.

Re: Playing CDs with AmigaAMP

@Jack

Yes, ineffective it might be but OS4 hardware does not
support digital input if I recall. So the sound quality may
suffer. CD input is only analog on A1 hardware.

There does exist a digital input but it doesn't work or
isn't supported if I recall my conversations with DaveAE
correctly. On ?A1-C anyway. Sound cards may be different.

IMO to read it digitally and send it out digitally is
the best way of preserving the audio quality.
Btw I don't think streaming CDDA audio (1411Kbit/s) is
that demanding on the system.

Does OS4 even have any drivers for hardware that supports
hardware RAID?
What about the SCSI or IDE/SATA drivers?

Hi @Jack

Any ideas?

@thread

If i may i take the opportunity to ask you users of AmiUpdate
a favour - could you try the following:

Use a custom theme (i for one use Aqua by ToAks)

1. Open up AmiUpdate thru icon (double-click) or Docky
2. Close AmiUpdate (completely shut it down)
3. Open any other program (Reaction or MUI doesn't matter)
and close them again
Do this a couple ot times...and see if your color 0 has been
changed. (You can alos open Palette prefs, but for me nothing
changes if i do so, only with opening another program first)

This behaviour is a nuisance (and the reason why i don't use
AmiUpdate at the moment) and happens to me every time i
open and close it.

Mostly it messes up AWeb, so if you have a chance to install
it, do so and test, it messes up the complete background
color of AWeb, but also YAM (MUI) is affected and every
other program

Simon is aware of that but wasn't able to track down the
problem yet (as hes using a plain OS4 install - no custom
themes - and me not being able to give enough feedback)

If you come across the same bahaviour, please note it and
help me out here

Thanks

Hi @ikir

I think AmiUpdate should be part of OS4 installation,

Yes! I've been offline for a couple months for system repairs and word "update" is running around like wildman in my head- ugh. I'd be curious to know AmiUpdate would handle a situation like mine. I'm not sure of the range of files it handles.

@Valiant

same stuff happened here until I openet config, system tab and changed the pattern to :

#?.(mp3|mp2|aiff|wav)|Track#?

(it looks ghosted but it editable once you click on it, restart of the program is needed afair)

Jack

Edit:
BTW: very ineffective way to play CDDA (imho), it reads all the data instead of using internal playback of the device...

Re: OS 4.0 Final together with update#4

@Swoop

Of course not. When files and dirs are moving, there are not moving physically on the disk, as it takes about 2 seconds to move an entire install. back to its dir. and again about 2 seconds to move the install you want to SYS:.
Then you reboot.

So 4 seconds to change the system + a reboot, I don't think that is difficult or long to do.

Edit: double post
