HyperClock

A utility to temporary modify CPU and FSB clock settings for Sam440ep boards (all versions)

Resized Image

Author:

Max m3x Tretene, Soft3

What it does:

* it allows to temporary modify CPU and FSB clock settings. The new configuration to become active requires a soft reboot, and will be active until the next hardware reset (from the computer case button) or until the board is switched off. After that the board will boot again with the original clock settings.
This way it's possible to safely reboot the board in case a wrong clock setting was chosen.
* it's possible to over clock and under clock the board. Under clocking may be useful in case you need to run the board for a long time on a specific task which requires low CPU power, for example, allowing to save on electric energy consumption, and lowering the heat produced.
* it reports some useful information on the board, and may help to solve some misconfiguration problems

BIG FAT NOTE:

* There is the remote possibility that something may go wrong damaging your hardware. Use this tool with extreme caution and at your sole risk.
Please beware that every damage to the board due to incorrect settings or misuse of
this tool will not be covered by the board warranty.

Cool!

I wish there was something like this for A1 boards. Having to switch off, look at a table, cross your fingers and try to poke the DIP switches without damaging the board every time is tedious and annoying.

I get an option for 867MHz clock on my 600MHz CPU... that amount of overclocking can't be safe, can it?

@Chris

Mmm i change idea for now, i have an 800 Mhz and it sems i can reach 867 (but with less FSB or PCI) so i don't know if worth risking or not ... at this point i think to waiting some more hints from m3x before procede ...

@samo79

I put it up to 667MHz with standard FSB/PCI, and it crashed quite quickly. The temperature here is ridiculous atm though (Wet reports 26°C, but this room is possibly hotter)

There was a note saying all the values were safe, but if that is true why do I get >133MHz FSB on my EP, which the readme says shouldn't be used?

On Sam440MiniITX, you can use 733Mhz with FSB of 122Mhz safely.

I push mine to 733Mh with FSB at 147Mhz. It works but I have to let the nice Relec case open if I want to use intense applications. Temperature is as high as 29°C in Lyon so it's quite normal that the Sam overheats when overclocked.

When the temperature drops, I'll try to close the case and use the Sam440 with this configuration.

I could not go higher than this (the Sam won't boot) and it's already a very nice gift from ACube that will open more possibilities (I could watch videos that I could not formely on the 440).

Thanks Max !

if you try configuration that doesn't work the SAM wont stat at all. So just power off the SAM and restart it. The original will be used. So don't worry..

@afxgroup

Infact here don't work at all, it reset but then i get only a black screen :-/

From default i have:

CPU: 800 Mhz
FSB: 133 Mhz
PCI: 133 Mhz

I try setting:

CPU: 833 Mhz
FSB: 167 Mhz
PCI: 83 Mhz

and

CPU: 867 Mhz
FSB: 124 Mhz
PCI: 124 Mhz

These looks like the best compromise to get better speed on the 3 components but none start my machine ...

Don't forget that the 800mhz Sam is ALREADY overclocked.

 Re: HyperClock - A utility to temporary modify CPU and FS...
Sure, but i presume that some more overclock should be possible even on the 800 Mhz machines, if not why having 833 and 867 Mhz listed ?

Same as samo79 :
I've got a samFlex 800 (one that need patches from the beginning of this year)

When I want to overclock : nothing happen (black screen)

As I'm crazy(...) I try an "lowerclock" option, but it try to load the fiffrent module (in BIOS) but stopped with an error.

In my Sam of 600 Mhz the program runs but only is freeze the system, and in my Sam of 1GHz, well, I'm waiting the sound drivers, to begin to make things.

@Templario

Please don't risk, DON'T try to appy this to the Sam460 !
It works only on Sam440 or SamFlex

@Samo

Already I tested but with low risk, I like of this tool that shows the more full information about the Sam. (The program made in house and knowing the internal codes etc, because the Ranger doesn't show the bios date).

And I didn't test it on my Sam of 1GHZ because I'm waiting the sound drivers.
