Sorry I don't think it will run on OS4 because the sound engine 'bangs the hardware', should run very well on Classics though :)

I'll upload it to AmiNet after BETA testing has been completed.

New Wolfenstein 3D Port for Classics

Thought some of you guys might like to know what I'm currently hacking away at

I think the other classics version are missing sound & music, this version should have both along with a few other little enhancements. It's a complete hack really, it's based on a couple of SDL versions of Wolfenstein, DOOM and Quake 2 code.

Project status:

Graphics: 100%
Input: 100% (now has WASD support)
Menus: 100%
Sound FX: 70% (missing some samples, also got to tidy it up a bit)
Music: 0% (I think this will be possible using MUS files)
Loading/Saving: 90% (config file is not saved on exit)

Slowly getting there, still lots to do though.

So what's going on with Flex, anyone know?

It was meant to be released in August last year and it's now March....did it ever get released, maybe I just missed it ;)

As it's not advertised on AmigaKit's site I assume it's not due in anytime soon....

@sundown

I think you can get a ROM extractor tool....would make the whole thing less error-prone. Try looking on AmigaKit for one.

@A1200

Good vid :)

You do need to improve the video quality though ;)

Interesting that you kept the upper RF shield...bloody things really get in the way.

Ok so a new card for running OS 4 classic would only need a PPC then.

No, the OS4 Kickstart is loaded by OS3, and that needs a working 68k.

I assume that could be done with a simple kick-flash addon?

But, what would be the point of that? you may as well just emulate it on a cheap PC. It wouldn't sell to the masses would it? The potential market would be very limited indeed.

Cheap? how can it be cheap? It would cost a bomb to tool up a production line to produce retro hardware. Not to mention having to re-fabricate old chips/components no longer available.

As to the Updated Retro OS - its out already and its called AmigaOS4.

The retro market is actually quite big if you think about it. Of course there is always emulation which is less hassle but some people like to have the HW to play with. I think it would be more viable to re-produce an updated but still retro 1200 than something like the NatAmis which is neither modern or retro.

Surely you mean 68k?

Yep, slight keyboard Transposition...woops.

When you run OS4 it switches off the 68k Chip altogether on A classic Amiga.

I'd rather see an official updated 1200 myself. A more modern case, built in CDROM, flicker fixer, IDE Express, maybe an 68030 with modern memory support. Basically a brand new 100% compatible RETRO machine :)

I know the market is very small but I just wondered on the possibility of anyone producing a PPC only card for classic Amiga's. Eg Shark PPC?

Also, I'm assuming that to run most(all?) software on a OS4 classic machine you only need the PPC chip and that the 68k chip would be redundant (because it is emulated)?

I guess this situ is not helped by all the legal stuff, is it true that Hyperion are not able to support/develop/sell this version of the OS anymore?

Edit: fixed typo
