OK ladies and gentlemen,

You leave me no choice…it’s time to unleash my secret weapon.

With 12 days to go I’ve given in once more to requests from some of you who wanted a mechanical keyboard inside the X500 so, here it is:

The X500 Evo.

The X500 Evo is a modified version of the X500 Plus (sides, cover and aluminium have been modified at great cost) and it's been designed for a FULL SIZE MECHANICAL KEYBOARD with Cherry MX Switches (keyboard model to be announced soon). The case will come with everything you'd expect: slim SATA DVD-RW drive with SATA cable, 3.5" internal USB card reader, 2x40mm silent fans, 2x50mm silent fans and your choice of LED colour (white, amber, red, green, blue) for Power and Drive Activity, PCI-Express x16 riser card (for your graphics card).

You can also get the EVO with a FULL SET OF LASER ETCHED Amiga key caps (white and light beige) with LASER ETCHED LANGUAGE LAYOUT (no adhesives this time). I’ve spent a few months making these caps and they should fit almost any mechanical keyboard.

Mechanical keyboards with Cherry MX switches come with Red, Black, Brown or Blue MX Switches, some are clicky some are not but they are all awesome. Using one right now.

The colour of the case hasn’t been decided yet.

For those of you who have already pledged for the X500 Plus and want to get the X500 Evo just change the pledge and make your choice, remember you've got until the 31st March.

I’ll post photos of the first prototype as soon as the funding ends and delivery will start 5-6 weeks after.

First come first served.

X500 Evo choices

Thank you.

Thank svox!

I've just taken some photos of some key rings and key fobs I've made.

Use them for your keys, attach them to your bag, manbag, bikes etc...etc...

The swivel lobster clasp is included.

These are the solid colour acrylic ones, I'll add photos of the semi-transparent/tinted ones later on.

X500 Plus BAREBONES on Kickstarter

Not too shy to talk

As requested by some...this is the BAREBONES X500 Plus.

For those who prefer customising the case themselves.

Get one of the very first X500 Plus computer cases. The fully assembled X500 Plus computer case with black or white powder coated aluminium base and rear, black or white machined plastic sides and cover. Black or white low profile USB, chiclet keyboard with shortened cable and internal USB header. Your choice of LED colour (white, amber, red, green, blue) for Power and Drive Activity. The keyboard will be provided with the U.K. language layout and a free, high quality set of adhesives for your preferred language layout (if required).

Buy or use your own parts such as a Bluray drive instead of a DVD-RW, your own choice of fans, different type of card reader or even a floppy disk drive...remember those?

So the BAREBONES comes WITHOUT a slim SATA DVD-RW drive, NO SATA cable, NO 3.5" internal USB card reader, NO 1x40mm silent fan, NO 1x50mm silent fan, NO silicone mounts.

£199

Please don't forget to add shipping cost.

Thank you.

The X500 Plus is live on Kickstarter!
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Hi everyone,

These seven-eight years have been fun and very costly.

All the latest modifications to make it cheaper have been added and paid for, I've cut and removed stuff but it'd still retain its identity.

I've managed to cut the cost from £259 to £235, it still means that I'll have to find the rest of the money somewhere else and, as before, making them at a loss for a while...

So the X500 Plus is now live on kickstarter.

Just go to the kickstarter page for the "X500 Plus computer case" and choose yours or think about supporting it by pledging some cash.

I've created some rewards from £1 to £255 or more, it's up to you really.

No money will be collected unless the project is funded successfully by the 31st March! So no risk there...

X500 Plus on Kickstarter

£235
THE WHITE ONE. Get one of the very first white X500 Plus computer cases. The complete, FULLY ASSEMBLED X500 Plus computer case with white POWDER COATED aluminium base and rear, white machined sides and cover. White low profile USB, chiclet keyboard with shortened cable and internal USB header, slim SATA DVD-RW drive with SATA cable, 3.5" internal USB card reader (limited availability of white bezels for slim DVD drive and Card Reader), 1x40mm silent fans, 1x50mm fan and your choice of LED colour (white, amber, red, green, blue) for Power and Drive Activity. The keyboard will be supplied with the U.K. language layout and FREE, high quality set of adhesives for your preferred language layout (if required) and Amiga layout.

£235
THE BLACK EDITION. Get one of the very first black X500 Plus computer cases. The complete, FULLY ASSEMBLED X500 Plus computer case with black POWDER COATED aluminium base and rear, machined sides and cover. Black, low profile, USB, chiclet keyboard with shortened cable and internal USB header, spare keyboard, slim SATA DVD-RW drive with SATA cable, 3.5" internal USB card reader, 1x40mm silent fans, 1x50mm fan and your choice of LED colour (white, amber, red, green, blue) for Power and Drive Activity. The keyboard will be supplied with the U.K. language layout and FREE, high quality set of adhesives for your preferred language layout and Amiga layout (if required).

£255
POWER USER. All of the above plus a PCI-Express x16 riser card (for your graphics card) and extra fans. Get one of the very first X500 Plus computer cases. The complete, FULLY ASSEMBLED X500 Plus computer case with black or white POWDER COATED aluminium base and rear, black or white machined sides and cover. Black or white low profile USB, chiclet keyboard with shortened cable and internal USB header, slim SATA DVD-RW drive with SATA cable, 3.5" internal USB card reader, 2x40mm silent fans, 2x50mm silent fans and your choice of LED colour (white, amber, red, green, blue) for Power and Drive Activity, PCI-Express x16 riser card (for your graphics card). Signed and dedicated to you (bottom of the case). The keyboard will be provided with the U.K. language layout and FREE, high quality set of adhesives for your preferred language layout (if required) and Amiga layout.

We need to reach or smash through £10,000.

This is where the community comes in!

This will be one of the very first Amiga related kickstarter projects and its success will depend on us.

Even if you don't want one please think about supporting it.

1) It'll make the community look good
2) It'll publicise the whole community to a massive audience
3) It'll publicise AmigaOS, AROS, MOS etc...etc... to a massive audience
4) Names such as AmigaOS, AROS, MOS, ACube, Hyperion, amigaworld.net,
amiga.org, amigakit.co.uk, Vesalia, amigans.net, natami.net, amiganews.it etc... will appear several times in videos and project descriptions on my behalf.

5) It'll make people who want one happy.
6) Failing is not an option! So no pressure then!

One more request...please refrain from trolling or asking questions regarding its price (we all know that they'll be sold at a loss so you've got your answer already), questions regarding the keyboard, the colour of the case etc...etc...have been answered already. Please keep this thread on topic.

But ideas about the kickstarter project itself, ideas about new rewards and how to improve the project are very welcome.

Please spread the word!

Thank you very much!

Re: X500 Plus price and availability
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Thanks guys. It's a miracle it made it!

Since there has been quite a bit of shouting about the price...I have been working on the CAD all day.

I've cut a few things and applied cheaper solutions to more expensive items; hopefully this will make it cheaper without changing its nature too much, it's all down to the quotes I get back in the end.

Revised the way to connect aluminium and plastic

Changed the standoffs for more affordable ones...not a fan but hey...

Removed clamp for power switch

Replaced power switch with a cheaper reset switch ( it does the same thing) but it costs £3

Removed the sleeve/braiding from the power switch

Removed the sleeving/braiding from the keyboard

Reduced the amount of punching required in the aluminium

Removed two side mounts (with screws on the back) where the sides join the rear end of the plastic

Reduced Fixing screws cover to base from 8 to 6

Replaced spacers with small nuts for the HDD/SSD

Replaced the keyboard holders with smaller ones

Waiting for another quote from the two companies...

Thanks!

X500 Plus price and availability
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Hi,

Just to let you know that the people have decided!

Everyone who registered has come up with suggestions about price, ranging from £70 to £520 so we're going somewhere in the middle to make everyone happy, I hope. Only 50 will be made, first come first serve as usual.

The X500 Plus will be priced at £259 (GBP) + packaging and postage. I am also asking a company to make us a plain, brown, double wall cardboard box for it. Just for delivery, nothing fancy.

----------------------------------------------------------

The case will be available in black or white with black or white USB keyboard

rubber feet

on/off switch

LEDs

all the screws

nuts

washers

spacers

custom made steel DVD and 3.5" USB card reader brackets

expansion card cover

keyboard holders

one 40mm silent fan

slim SATA DVD-RW drive with SATA cable

silicone fan mounts on the right side (in case you want to add extra fans)

3.5" USB card reader (52in1)

powder coated aluminium base and rear (inside and out) in black or white with a matt finish

custom made LED window

Fully assembled.

---------------------------------------------------------

Once I get all the payments I'll ask the factories to buy the materials and machine the plastic, the aluminium and the steel. They'll want to be paid in advance.

I'll be assembling the cases myself, one by one, it takes time so please be patient.

As you'll be the first ones to get an X500 Plus please let me know your choices:

1) X500 Plus colour (white or black)

2) Colour combination of the LEDs (white, blue, red, green or amber, they are interchangeable)

3) Your full home address (for the delivery)

4) Your Paypal email address

5) Would you like two free ACube's "A" keys adhesives?

6) Please confirm keyboard layout preference (U.K. layout is second best option if first is not available)

Contact:

amigarulez@hotmail.com

Registered people should have received an email from me already. If you have not received it please contact me, I might have missed someone so sorry in advance about it...

Delivery: 2-4 weeks.

PS: This project has sucked a lot of energy, free time and money, my entire classic, NG Amiga and Commodore collection, plus my car (twice!) and a few other items which ended up on ebay during seven years. You probably already know but I'll be making these at a loss for a while but I love it and I hope you're going to love it too. Add sad music here.

Thank you to everyone who’s been supporting this project, you know who you are.

Thank you.

Yes we are aiming to get 50 made. That really is the minimum, the factories won't even consider less than that.

We've got enough interest to order the materials but not enough for production and parts...I'll have to think about something.

Thanks again!
