I've tried to install the new Gimp update and I get the following error during install :
GETENV : String too long in line 319
318 : (run "Cygnix:CygnixPPC/bin/pkg-config >ENV:RESVAR python2.6 --variable=dist" (safe)) 319 : (set #python_dist (getenv "RESVAR"))
Of course, Gimp doesn't start anymore (it freeze loading a .py effect)
Could someone help me on that please?

I currently have a SoundBlaster Live 5.1 (emu10kx) in my Sam440ep.
I've a spare M-Audio Revolution card (Rev.3).
Which one is the best under OS4.x?

@netrot Thank you for the proposal but I will wait for a few more feedback. More over I don't want to deprive you of your module for a week Maybe I could sell my two 512 modules and buy the 1Go one. (If its working it will gave my ?A1 a second life)

So I'm stuck with 256mo :(
How can I be sure this 1Gb module could function with my ?A1? (without buy it)

I've been told that reducing the UDMA mode of the optical drive to 1 or 2 helps a little bit.

I'm very happy to know that a new version of Basilisk will be out for OS4.x.
Anyway, i don't have much time to dedicate to betatesting but I would be very please to test it as an ex apple 68k user.
I can make some small reports on my different OS 4 boxes.

@Antique
I bought a Kingston SSDNow V series, the 2.5" 64GB model.
It's not the best one but it was afordable (around 120? with the 3.5" desktop kit)
It's faster of course, but if you have a fanless sam, well, there no noise at all. At the beginning, I found that very strange, now, I'm realy enjoying the silence. (I don't start any other computers anymore but my Amiga 600)
64Go seems quiet small for someone who have tons of mp3 and video files. But it's enough for me. (I've a external SATA drive for backup purpose, ISO files, etc. and a 4Go Compact Flash on a CF->SATA adapter for my download directory)

@Astral
I'm using such a device with a cheap CF->SATA adapter.
It's slower than a real HD on my machine and are the two reasons (to me) : - I can only use UDMA mode 2 or best pio) - I cannot use SFS and only FFS. (I don't know why)
I'm pretty sure that a 'real' adapter should work better. (I think Vesalia sells good one).
Anyway, it serves me well alongside my SSD (which works like a real HD and supporte UDMA6, SFS, etc.) and my Sam is totally noiseless.

Yes, but I will give it another try as I test it the device (ie. remotedh0:) and not on the volume (ie workbench:).
Anyway assign xxx dismount does the job, but maybe dismount will not be locked.

Yes, I also use others ways too (mostly Samba, a bit ftp) but AmiNetFS has advantages too (faster, more Amiga, etc.). And to be honest, the fact that it get 'stuck' is not a big problem. You just have to think to dismount the remote device before switching off the computer.
I just would like to have a complete script.
Many thanks for your advices.

@amije I read the doc and I even contact the author. I didn't try the die command from the msh package before today.
The die command does not seems to function properly on OS4, and cannot function while the system is freezed (fab has written that in fact it's the doslist which is locked)
'Assign XXX dismount' can be run but does'nt eject the shared device.
I'm trying to create a script which on first double-click : - ping the remote computer - if reachable, then script mount the share otherwise it shows an alert - while running the script test every 10 sec if the remote computer is still reachable. if not, the script eject the share (well, this is where i'm stuck)
If everything goes fine and you have finished with the remote computer. Second double-click dismount the share in a clean way.
So currently the script is working well until the remote computer is un-reachable.
@Fab Do you know by any chance a way to get out of the 'doslist lock' situation?
Unlike smbfs, NetFS cannot be killed as the process is run on the remote computer.

How to automatically dismount network shares when they are not reachable anymore?

I'm using NetFS on OS4 and when the remote computer is powered off/rebooted/crashed the Workbench is freezing on the local computer.
I've tried to create an Amiga DOS loop using 'ping' command and 'assign XXX dismount' but the loop is also freezed.
(By the way, it seems that ping is not like other Amiga commands and I can't get an error code so I had to use a trick)
This is a part of the script :
LAB Ping WAIT 10 ping -c=3 secondamiga >t:pingresult IF VAL `list t:pingresult lformat %l` GT 200 SKIP Ping BACK ELSE ASSIGN remotedh1: dismount ASSIGN remotework: dismount ENDIF
But it's not working as it freeze before the dismount... (Well, I'm far from a master of Amiga DOS)
So, does anyone knows a way to automatically dismount network shares when they are not reachable anymore?

For example if I want to make an icon with an picture of an Amiga 1000 or place a logo that I have created with SodiPodi. Well I can't open this picture or logo in gimp OS4 as it only opens xcf files.

@kas1e
Gimp saves png with alpha too but currently the OS4 version can only deal with xcf.
But xcf2png make png with alpha. and it works perfectly with createicon.
I also try the pngeditor program which is a really nice tool. But usually I don't want a glow on the whole icon.
