Drawer dates are now preserved, too. That was not easy to figure out.

The system will change the date if any files are added to the directory or edited and saved, so the directory date isn't as useful.

Maybe some variation of this:

echo testing >ram:testfile`date LFORMAT %H%M%S`

Note that the hash marks enclosing the date command are not single quotes; they are the character below the Esc key on a standard keyboard (I.E. the key with ~ and `).

Simplemail might be worth using if all else fails. I know from working on several multi-platform (MOS/OS4/AROS/68k) open-source projects that sometimes code gets committed that works fine on one Amiga platform but fails on other platforms.

You may be better off using SimpleMail...it has IMAP support and looks pretty much like YAM nowadays, how it "feels" i don't know, but will probably switch to it too eventually

I D/L SimpleMail and tried setting it up before you guys told me to try the nightly build of YAM. I was able to import my YAM address book but whenever I tried to add/regroup/remove any individual email addresses, SimpleMail froze my system and I had to do a cold reboot. I don't know if that's just an X5000 issue or if it affects all OS4.x hardware.

I'm getting closer to the point where my X5000 will just be taking up desk space (or eventually closet space) because I can't access important WEB sites.

I tried the latest YAM nightly build and I can once again get my emails in secure mode. Eventually it may become necessary to have IMAP to access email with YAM, so I hope they're working on that. Since v2.9p1 has become useless for anything but unsecure mail server access, it seems like the YAM devs should release a patched version (v2.9p2) or release a new version.

YAM secure POP3 connection problem
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

My ISP has notified me that they are switching email to IMAP but will also have a secure POP3 server at port 995. I switched YAM 2.9p1 to use port 995 and selected SSL/TLS & "Plain Password" for POP3. When I couldn't get a connection I installed the debug version of YAM 2.9p1 and captured the debug output. I've changed my email address in the debug output to xxxx so that's not the problem. Here is the debug output I captured:
Quote:
02:W: ssl.c:106:ssl: verify callback @ 2 => 7:'certificate signature failure'
02:W: ssl.c:147:ssl: Unhandled certification verification error: SSL_CERT_ERR_UNHANDLED

Can anyone tell me what the above debug output means and what I need to do to get a secure POP3 connection with YAM?

Re: USB shown having CDFS filesystem

Just can't stay away

@walkero
Does USB MassStorage Commodity show more than one partition on the flash drive? Years ago I bought a Kingston flash drive that had 2 partitions; a small CDFS partition with security software and a large FAT partiton. I couldn't write to the CDFS partition but the FAT partition worked normally.

Here is a link to a post about similar issues: https://www.techadvisor.co.uk/forum/he ... at-cdfs-usb-drive-4257109

If my 2 partition flash drive was plugged in when I turned my system on, it was recognized as a CD but my system attempted to read from the FAT partition. When I copied my System partiton to the FAT partition and plugged the flash drive in before cold booting, my system recognized it as a CD but booted from the FAT partition. That was before OS4 was supposed to be able to cold boot from USB!

If your flash drive only has a single partition, then it would probably be easier to get a cheap new flash drive than struggling to get the 4GB flash drive working.

I set my spoofing by adding this to my user-startup:

SETENV OWB_USER_AGENT "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/66.0.3359.6 Safari/537.36"

Both https://whatbrowser.org/ and https://www.whatsmybrowser.org/ indicate that I'm using Chrome. However, my bank WEB site still claims that I am using an outdated brower. There must be more involved in convincing WEB sites that you're using an accepted browser.

@all
I just tried AmiUpdate and it stalled for several minutes waiting to see if there was an update for AmiUpdate. When it finally connected, it listed an update for MUI5. When I selected "Install", it installed MUI-5.0-2018R1-os4.lha over the MUI-5.0-2017R3-os4.lha update I already had. It seems a little confusing to restart the archive revision numbers every year. AmiUpdate didn't connect to any other servers.

@broadblues
After further investigation, it doesn't appear to be a problem with the progam used to archive Aweb. Dopus4 uses xadmaster.library library to read the archive and show the contents in a lister. The archive is read correctly by SYS:Utilities/UnArc so I'm guessing that there is a bug in Dopus4. Sorry to bother you about this.

@broadblues
How did you create the AWeb lha archive at OS4Depot? Double clicking the archive with Dopus doesn't recognize it as an archive.

I can extract the archive, so I extracted it, then re-archived it with Amiga LHA and my archive is recognized by Dopus4 as an LHA archive.

Edit: I was wrong about the archive size. Post corrected.

The only way I can think of that datatypes would be involved in opening a Workbench window is if you have Workbench menu Windows/Show/Previews activated. Is that the case?

I D/L a bunch of '.LFL' files and both Deficons & Multiviewer recognize them as either binary files or text files (only one text file). I would guess that only one (or several) .LFL files are causing his problem and that AEON would need the problem file/files to reproduce the problem.

Re: Screen opening woes in OS4.1FEu1 Classic

Just can't stay away

@BSzili
I copied your test code, replaced all the $A0 with spaces and compiled the program. Here on my X5000 with OS4.1FEu1, it opens a blank screen. It appears to be a "fake" screen because the pointer can only be moved around in a 320x240 box in the upper-left of the display. The screen menu on the Workbench screen shows it as a 320x240 screen. It may only be a problem on OS4.1Fu1 classic.

You should also know that when I highlight & copy from a code box in these forums, the pasted program is full of $A0 characters that GCC flags as errors. I can replace those characters with spaces with my editor but others may have a problem compiling the program.

Re: Icon Specification

@Cool_amigaN
I D/L your program and ran a quick test. When it starts, my Workbench screen colors are changed and Workbench is frozen. Even if I switch it to fullscreen my Workbench screen has altered colors and is unusable. It doesn't matter if it has a docky icon if Workbench is frozen and there is no point in putting it in a window on Workbench if Workbench is unusable. Maybe you should run the program on a custom screen and leave the Workbench screen alone. I don't usually play games on my Amiga so others may have a different opinion.

It does seem like a system fix would be better than a workaround. I wonder if other Amiga filesystems are susceptible to the same deadlock.

@salass00

Today I've spent most of my time hunting down the reason for a deadlock which happened during some simple stress testing of the file system. The cause seems to be that GetTimezoneAttrsA() calls OpenLocale() at the beginning of the function which causes a deadlock situation if the LocaleBase semaphore is being held by another program which in turn is trying to make a file system call to ssh2-handler (all filesysbox vector calls are mutex protected).

Would the same deadlock occur if you were using AmigaDOS packets instead of filesysbox vector calls? To a novice programmer like me it seems that you would just have a queued packet (message) in ssh2-handler until the first call to OpenLocale() is completed and the LocalBase semaphore is released.
