Re: Emotion - the commercial version?

The URL for the video source is embedded in HTML5 video tags inside the web site HTML. The browser knows how to interpret these and send them to it's embedded player, on Windows, Mac etc. On Amiga there is much more limited embedded player, and it's generally better to play the stream directly in an embedded player, for which you need a script or to manually find the right URL. Good news for you is, Spectre660 has found the right URL

Well that's a web page for a start so you'd be looking for the URL for the actual video stream, and the source is a blob stream which is a pain in the arse to rip so the answer probably is Odyssey with va.library might play it but emotion won't.

I know I'm over-ambitious, but I'd love to see the work done on Emotion and on porting the ffmpeg core to Amiga, opened up into a proper multimedia framework API for Amiga. Amiga OS development stopped just before Apple got QuickTime and Windows got DirectShow, and while we got datatypes, and realtime library, mpega and camd, we never got a fully integrated framework for playing containerised source-independent, sink-independent multimedia streams with support for file sources, socket sources, stream sources, in-memory sources, progressive rendering, codec plugins, container format plugins, stream muxing/demuxing, hardware specific accelerated codecs etc etc.

The closest any amigoid platform has to this is the Reggae framework on MorphOS and even that is largely incomplete.

@alfkil

Thanks, that's interesting to discover ! (as an Amiga guy who worked at Symbian).

I don't know about AmigaBounty but there was a thread here recently about that sort of thing in general which should discuss the active options.

Just thinking out loud, I wonder if any of the patches made to get Qt to run on Symbian OS, which should be open source too somewhere, are helpful in making it compile properly on Amiga given there are many similar limitations to both OSes

@AmigaOldskooler

Do we know how official this thing is? Apart from Team17 confirming they've licensed their games, there's nothing from the Amiga rights holders. What's the hardware? FPGA with an AROS ROM??

I'd rather it had an A1200 style case, but modern without the faux keyboard.

[Correction} Their website also has "© 1985–1993 Cloanto Corporation. All Rights Reserved. Furnished under license from Cloanto Corporation. Cloanto is a trademark owned by Cloanto Corporation throughout the world and registered in the United States and internationally."

Hans doesn't know the magic quirk to use to activate HDMI.

AFAIK 1080P at 60Hz is the hard limit of the card. It's basically one of these https://www.techpowerup.com/review/sapphire-hd-6450-passive/

Isn't that what they tried to do at http://openamiga.org/ and also apparently here https://www.bountysource.com/issues/30 ... inherited-from-webkit-x86

I have a Radeon HD 6450 AMD Sapphire card with 1GB RAM. Half height, passive cooled i.e. silent. It works with the following limitations:

- No HDMI out (although it works in MorphOS annoyingly). DVI out and VGA out are fine.
- Max 1080P resolution at 60Hz
- No Warp 3D/Nova support so no Blender, no Shaderjoy
- No accelerated video in Emotion/Odyssey

It does support composition GUI though.

[Edit] And needs the version 2 driver but that should be obvious.

it may or may not have a 'no reverse engineering' clause in its license. But what you do in the privacy of your own home is your business. Releasing some instructions how to mod it in a binary editor or releasing whatever the OS4 version of a spatch file is is also not something anyone can stop you doing. This is all hypothetical of course.

You included mine without permission, or even bothering to ask or check the license, so I wonder how many others you've done the same to.

As the resident expert and because the information is spread across different threads and different forums, would it be possible for you to enumerate here all the known issues with GCC and/or OS4 you've encountered that might block porting efforts please?
