Re: Workbench Explorer feedback

My bad. I did copy the SHA-1 checksum instead of the MD5. It is fixed now. That's what happens when you get in a hurry......make silly mistakes.

Workbench Explorer crash at quit

Is anyone having or had a crash when select "Quit all" from the menu?

A friend of mine gets a crash every time. I have tracked it down to strstr() call. No idea why that would crash. It is used many times during use.

Part 2:

Only Workbench keeps the date of drawers. No other program does. Keep that date, too?

EDIT:

Drawer dates are now preserved, too. That was not easy to figure out.

I like the idea of a new option:

Preserve file date when paste

On by default.

I do retain protection bits and file note.

Copy item, set what date?

For my program Workbench Explorer, when you copy/paste an item the date/time gets sets to the current date/time. Filer and Windows Explorer set them to the source file date/time. In a shell window, Copy sets it to the current date/time, unless you use CLONE.

What would you rather have? The original file's date/time or the current date/time at paste?

Add date+time to filename

Is there a way to add the date+time to a filename when redirecting output? This is to be done in a Shell directly or a script.

MyProgram >T:Output_[date+time].txt

So each run doesn't overwrite the previous output file.

Hot keys

I currently use KeyMacro to add hot key shortcuts to use in the Shell window. Is there a modern/updated program for OS4 that does the same thing? A GUI would be nice. And no extra handlers.

@jabirulo

That is what I have been doing, but I always get 0.0.0.0 even though I have 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 specified in Prefs->Internet->Name resolution.

In Routes I have 192.168.1.254 for Default Gateway Address. I always get 192.168.1.255. (Not sure I am looking in correct place for it).

shownetstatus gives me the correct values.

How do you get the default gateway and DNS's?

I am having similar problems. Takes forever to check for own update. When gets past that 40+ seconds later, slow connecting to www.amiupdate.net. Downloads from update.amigos.net (hyperion?) just fine. I am assuming everything else it timing out.

It has been brought to my attention that Workbench Explorer can't show WHDLoad icons. I tried it, nothing. They show on Workbench just fine.

Is it a flaw in the info.datatype? NewIcons need to be installed?

@all

In my brief "research" of looking at some archives on Aminet, I did not see any .ilbm images, just .iff. I am going with .ilbm, though.

I agree .iff is vague, but usually you have a drawer for images, a drawer for music, etc.

I agree with Trixie, there should always be an extension. Quick visual recognition. Easy selection.

When saving an image with ILBM datatype, should the extension be .ilbm or .iff? Either is right, just looking for a preference from the masses.

@All

As you have now experienced, it is just a little too much work to add a browser to the list. I don't know what the solution is, I haven't given it much thought. But it shouldn't require doing it 4 times.
