The RadeonHD driver.

V.2 has the composited video feature which speed up video playback on all Radeon HD cards and beyond.

I didn't say anything about what OS4.x might or might not be worth. I was talking about the software owned and developed by A-EON, namely what is included in the Enhancer bundle. This is why I addressed them separately in my answer

This software is still actively developed and sold and I do have some idea of how much has been invested.

GP Soft open sourced Magellan nearly a decade and a half after Amiga development ceased, not in 1997.

Nobody is able to that while the validity of Hyperions's license is being legally challenged and whenever it is resolved who's to say the controlling party will be willing to do so.

Perhaps you could pay A-EON for the source code and open it yourself as your so keen. Be warned that you'll need deep pockets, very deep pockets.

Why keep paying (AmigaKit/Classic trade) extra for it development?

Who says you're paying extra? They could just be taking less profit than they might have otherwise. Ultimately it's up to the customer to decide if a given product or service represents value for money and it's irrelevant how the profit gets spent.

People complain, get despondent and in some case leave the scene altogether when there is silence for months or even years from these companies so I don't think they have anything to lose by being more open with the community.

Monthly updates on current projects would be a good idea and I think people would rather be told something like we haven't made much progress this month, than face a wall of silence.

I don't know frequently updates appear on Hyperion's beta server these days bu I think a it wouldn't hurt if there was twitter account that relayed version numbers of the various components as and when they get updated on the server. Anyone of the beta testers could maintain this with little effort and the rest of the userbase could at least see that work was ongoing no matter big or small.

I live fairly close to Amigkit and tend to prefer to make a personal visit when I by something. I've found that Matthew is happy chat at lenght face to face and is pretty open about what is happening behind the scenes. I try not to share what he's told me thse days but I think it would be better if he shared more details with the community.

I think another good form of community engagement would be to get the community involved in some of the decision making with regard to the direction of OS development and what software or hardware is produced. Something like we are considering and adding X and Y feature to the OS but currently there is only the resources to work on one which would the userbase prefer first?

@billt

The Open Power Notebook design includes M.2 NVME so if there isn't currently support in uboot it will certainly be an item on the checklist for this project. The Notebook also has M.2 slots for Wifi and GSM modems.

With the PCB design now underway I think it's a good time to start working towards driver support for these devices in OS4.

There is more details on the Wiki page. Not every component has it's own page but hopefully there's enoungh information to help you make an informed decision on wether or not to buy it.

I'd advise getting a cable like this so you can secure the PCIe slot to the case. You may have to drill holes for the standoffs but the end result will be worth extra the effort.

If the onboard IDE is switched off in Uboot it shouldn't have any bearing on the ethernet. I think the might have been newer revision of the Articia S in the XE so perhaps that partially fixed things.

The only problem I had is that if you unplugged a USB device then plugged it back in the system wouldn't detect it again unless you used a different port. A powered USB hub resolves that dropout.

The onboard ethernet should work fine if you only enable DMA for the PCI IDE card. Did you have problems that weren't present with the XE?

I never had any fixes applied and worked around the bugs with PCI IDE and USB hubs.

Have you tried bench marking the AGP Radeon card vs the PCI Radeon in the 66Mhz slot.

@monomango

I heard some cards have the memory configures as either 1 bank of 256MB or 2 banks of 128MB. OS4 versions prior to 4.1 displayed the full 256MB was available on all cards.

It turned out there was a bug that caused the system to crash if the upper 128MB was accessed by the OS. Rather than fix it they simply disabled the second bank, probably on the assumption that not many people would try to open a ton of screens open with compositing enabled on all of them.

In all the years I used 4.1 on my XE I never found myself in a low video RAM situation so I'd say it isn't worth potentially bricking the AGP card chasing after memory you're probably never likely to use.

If you have a 33Mhz slot free you could use the PCI card as second display.

I think I still have an AUI coverdisk somewhere with Transplant. I didn't didn't usually buy AUI so it was by complete chance that I got to play this little gem of a game.

Another nice game that uses the rotational effect is Seek and Destoy by Vision.

But not physicall, a good solution was sell the OS disk alone for 20-30 euros and every rom image for 10-15 euros, this way as the update was though for emulation you had spend money several times, for example in my case to emulate an Amiga 500 and an Amiga 4000, this way I have spent 60 euros. I think that update is to get money from emulation more to update the classic true machines.

Not just emulation. Some people have more than one type of 68k Amiga. Some kind of discount or bundle deal would be a good idea for those that need it. The Guru Meditation mentioned this one his A1200 install video.

Can anyone tell me if the 9250 supports Warp3D and/or Open GL? I was under the impression that it does but I saw it mentioned somewhere recently that it doesn't...

The 9250, 9200, 9000, 9000 pro and Voodoo3 are all supported by OS4. The 9000 pro is the most powerful of those cards but they are harder to come by and the memory is usually limited to 64MB although 128MB versions exist. Some 9200 and I believed 9250 cards only have a 64-bit memory interface which halves bandwidth compared to a card with a 128-bit interface.

You probably read that the 9250 isn't supported by OS3.x but that doesn't matter on the A1.

As above, the Voodoo 3 will run Warp3D software albeit at a slower pace than the Radeon cards and IIRC it doesn't do compositing which features in OS4.1 onwards. IIRC all of Amiboing's games use compositing.

The latest version of MiniGL can be found here.

Re: What is the AmigaOne XE DMA fix?

@Raziel

Quote:
There was a problem with the original run of XE motherboards which could lead to a crash or freeze when using e.g. internet through the onboard LAN chip.

All XEs and SEs had the same conflict with the LAN when the ATA controller had DMA enabled. Only the Micro A1 had shipped with the fix. A few people knew how to perform the fix at the time, while Alan Redhouse refused to make the fix public and somewhat prophetically warning that there may be unforeseen consequences. It was later discovered you had to disable USB when using a RadeonHD card if your board had the fix done.

Most people either disabled the ATA DMA or installed a PCI ATA controller to get around the problem.

@Helloworld

The DMA fix is best avoided but there was a separate USB fix which resolved the problem with USB devices not being recognized after being unplugged and another being plugged. It's better not to make modifications to a working XE and if you have any niggles with your USB you can resolve them with an active USB that has it's own PSU.

P.S.

I hope that Hans can get that 7750 of yours working.

That screenshot shows what's wrong. the "Command" section should have "IO" and "Mem" as well. Without those, reads/writes to the graphics card's registers and VRAM/ROM never get through. I thought we'd fixed that already (PCIGraphics was supposed to handle that), but obviously not.

I'll see what I can do...

I hope this isn't too difficult to fix. Being so close to getting the SI cards running on the XE is really exciting even though I sold mine on after getting the X1000.

You might need to use Picasso96Mode in the prefs to set up the monitor driver. We had to do this back in the day when setting up a new video card.

There's a guide to P96Mode here.

http://web.archive.org/web/2002122108 ... /graphics/graphics3.shtml

Best to check first if the board appears in the "attach setting to" menu alongside whatever the 9250 identifies itself as. My R9 280 shows up as "Board0: Radeon HD 7900 Series".

I don't think it's problem sharing monitor files since there are many old ones on Aminet. PM me your email and I'll send a selection of the monitor driver files I have here.

If you still get any results it might be worth getting in direct touch with Hans.

Make a copy of the monitor driver or look in storage to see if a suitable monitor driver is in there.

It doesn't matter what you call board name. It's seem to just be an identifier used in the monitors tab of screenmode prefs.

You should be able to activate the monitor driver by double clicking on it. When testing don't put the monitor driver in monitors, just in case it hangs the system and you end up with the system hanging on boot up thereafter.
