Re: OS 4.1 and Blu-Ray

@ssolie

Well, extracting larger lha/7zip/etc. files directly to a JXFS partition doesn't work here. It's a known issue and will be fixed.

@nubechecorre

You might want to stick with SFS/02 for the time being (that also supports files >4GB) because I noticed a few issues with the current version of JXFS, and a fix hasn't been released yet. SFS/02 works perfectly, I've been using it for more than a year now.

Why not? Both SFS/02 and JXFS support files >4GB.

Re: Sam 440 Flex board?

@noelfuller

To be honest, looking at how long it's taking for the Flex board to be completed, ACube would have been better off making a board for the 460EX, they could be prototyping the first boards now. On the other hand I am a bit disappointed at AMCC, they announced the 2GHz dual-core Titan chip 2 years ago (it's similar to PA Semi's chips but with no AltiVec), but still no news from that. Additionally, last year the 460EX was available at up to 1.2GHz according to their website, whereas now it's only available at up to 1.0 Ghz. They seem to be moving backward rather than forward...

And the problem is that if ACube would start designing a board based on the 460EX after they finished the Sam-Flex, by the time they would have a product on the market, in my opinion the 460EX would be just as underpowered for the needs of the time as the Sam440 is now. I think the Freescale MPC8610 would be a better choice. Not only is it available at higher clock speeds (up to 1.33 GHz), it also has higher integer performance at the same clock speed (2.3 DMIPS / MHz as opposed to AMCC's 2.0 DMIPS / MHz), has an Altivec Unit (which none of the AMCC chips have and can significantly boost multimedia performance), has a faster 8-lane PCI-Express bus (as opposed to the 4-lane one on the 460EX), has integrated AC97 (saves board space and reduce component count) and even an integrated LCD controller, so it would be ideal for a board which is to be also used for embedded devices (no need for expensive Radeon M9). The 1066 MHz RoHS version is available for 150 EUR in single quantities (probably cheaper in 100+ quantities) so it's not such an expensive chip either.

If I were ACube I would not waste time with the 460 now...

Please send me an E-Mail to sf.amiga at gmail.com so I can send you a debug version, thanks.

Is that OS4.0 or 4.1?

To save crashlog, you press 'more' in the GrimReaper window, then press 'Write Crashlog". The crashlog will be saved in Ram Disk.

Without specifying what kind of system you have and submitting a crashlog, I can't even guess what could be wrong.

@krashan

This is the original Quake, not glQuake, so yes, it uses software rendering. And this is not my port, it's Frank Wille's port, I just fixed a couple of issues.

Does that happen when starting from shell, or via Icon, or in both cases?

Why would you want to use that option? It's slower anyway, and it's disabled by default.

Re: OWB 3.7

Not too shy to talk

@Gebrochen

If you read this forum carefully you'll see that joerg said he wants to add proper download support, which works on all sites, and not a hack which only works on some sites, but since OWB doesn't have support for this internally he has to change quite a few tihngs and that will take some time, especially because he works on it in his spare time, like most people who do software development on the Amiga. So instead of complaining, why don't you give the man some respect for the huge amount of work he has done so far, and send a donation his way to encourage him to continue developing and adding a proper download manager too.

I don't want to speak in joerg's name, but when I work my ass off during the day to make a living, and then I use much of my spare time in the evening developing Amiga stuff when I'm dead tired and have rings around my eyes, instead of resting and getting enough sleep, hearing complaints instead of appreciation does make me seriously think about leaving the platform...

@Cap

I don't get any shaking here, hower I did experience some strange flashes when using the -forcewpa8 option in combination with triplebuffering, so make sure you don't use the -forcewpa8 (in GUI "use OS screen update") with triplebuffering enabled.

Quake 1, 2 and 3 are completely different games, using differeng game engines. As the readme says, this is a port of Quake 1.

What problem? I can run a 1680x1050 resolution fine here on a Peg2, apart from the slowness I see no problems. To change the video mode ingame you have to go in the menu to Options -> Video Options and select a resolution, then a screenmode requester will pop up.

@joerg

I read in the forums about someone reporting the issue with OWB selecting blocks of text when not desired, I thought it was know, but I didn't check the bugtracker on OS4depot.net. Anyway it's great that it's already fixed, OWB 3.7 is amazing, this is the only glitch I found so far.

Re: OWB 3.7

@joerg

Do you have any idea about the strange event problems? It seems as if sometimes OWB enters a mode in which it interprets single-clicks as double-clicks. For instance when using google maps, it zooms in to a double-click, and often it automatically zooms in if I just hold the mouse, drag, and release it, or if I just do a single-click. It could be related to the problem which happens with selection, that sometimes OWB automatically selects blocks of text when single-clicking in different places, which it should only do when double-clicking.

@nubechecorre

You mean "Use OS for screen update"? That does exactly what it says, it uses the OS routines for updating the display (e.g. WritePixelArray8...). It's of course slower than Quake's own routines.

Triplebuffer is better for playing because it synchronises the video updates with the monitor's refresh. The only reason you may want to disable it is if you do benchmarking.
