Re: AmiCygnix slow booting

Different buffer settings? different filesystem?

1 Don't use FFS if you are. I'm using JXFS.

2. For a 60GB partition I think I.use 60000 buffers. It's easy to check, open shell and.type "addbuffers partitionname: 60000 if you got a 60GB partition. Then try to launch amicygnix and see.if it loads.faster. If it does, make the.buffer setting permanent in mediatoolbox.

If there are no Amiga market how come all the Sam 460 are sold out at amigakit and why don't they order more from Acube if the demand is there?

Thanks for the answer and for the update . Sounds like you're progressing nicely and it's much fun reading about the progress you're making.

I agree, the first time I heard of it I thought it was nonsense but when I used it it was really nostalgic. It brought back memories from the disk-swapping days infront of the A500/A1200 and A4000D.

But if you hate it, turn it off......

It shall be used with the original diskdrive speed too which means slow disk readings anyway so I would say either use it for nostalgic reasons or turn it off and raise the diskdrive speed for faster loading.

@Rogue

I completely agree regarding what you wrote about games compared to the applications. When you ported games the Amiga situation was different from today, there where more applications released from others. If I have to choose to be able to browse the internet or to play RTCW the choise is really easy .

What I wrote about before though regarding including some old games for nostalgic reasons and fun are a different thing though I think since the games are available for free. There will be a need for a GUI and some transparent way to run them. I also had the idea of using that GUI for downloadable games that could be installed from within the GUI or download from an application store like are popular these days. That store could later be expanded to sell applications and games for AOS 4 but also have old games/applications downloadable for free if agreed by the owner.

Anyway, not a high priority thing right now but something that I think would be good some time in the future. Lots of non-computer-geeks that I know sit there with their Windows box, surf, reads e-mail, face book and then play Hearts, Spider etc etc. Why not include Deluxe Pacman and some breakout game with AOS 4?

But again, a project for the future, consentrate on the much more important features that are much needed in AOS now. I believe though that Amiga needs to get back to the roots a bit more at some point.

Oh, I'd also like to say that I'm sorry for sounding negative from time to time. I like what you've done with AOS a lot and I do enjoy using it. Typing this from AOS 4 right now. It has come a long way when it comes to usability since the first beta, both regarding AOS itself and the new applications like OWB, NetSurf, SabreMSN, WookieChat, now AmIRC, players for sound and video etc, etc, etc. Things could be better, sure, but it is cerntainly not bad.

Re: Linux question

I got an ATI Radeon 5750 and the install for both Windows 7 and Ubuntu was really easy. For Ubuntu you get a message that a driver are available for download after installation. Click on "install" and you're done (reboot).

For Windows 7, download archive, doubeclick icon and choose express install. That's it, couldn't be much easier.

HOWEVER I've had issues with the driver in Ubuntu. The first time I installed Ubuntu some months ago it did crash with that driver. I did reinstall it the other day and it doesn't crash but performance when watching flash movies in 720p is horrible! I don't know if the driver is the issue though.

Offcourse it works fine in Windows 7.

+1

Always read the readme, docs, whatever in the archive you downloaded for information about how to install something, unless there are an installer included offcourse. However, there are often some interesting information anyway.

@TiredOfLife

I agree, it works well enough for me. However, regarding the ugly green OSD it doesn't have to look that way.

This is what it looks like in KDE:

That would be a nice feature to add, it exists in macos and ubuntu or kubuntu but instead of ugly green it's white which is better IMO.

Maybe white as default with the possibility to change it using RGB values?

I am very pleased with this version, nothing much to complain about . I still miss the iconify button though, might this be available in the next release?

I wrote a PM to you earlier with other suggestions and wishes so I won't write them here again.

I think the purpose of SimpleHTML was to be able read HTML docs easily and aren't most docs in HTML format only anyway?

The e-mails that I receive use HTML only and works fine in SimpleMail (using the same engine) or in IBrowse for example.

When you say CPU and RAM hungry, wouldn't that happen to SimpleHTML once you've added CSS features?

Thanks for the answer . I can live without Mixer untill a solution comes up. The plan was to finally get use of the volume keys on my keyboard and it was more or less working except for this issue making it useless.

Thanks but I've tried with brackets on too and it doesn't change anything. I see nothing wrong with my tooltypes. I just wait and hope that someone got some suggestions, info on their installation etc.
