@Chris

Thanks, moved the drawer window and snapshot position and has done the trick. Never thought of this, hopefully will be fixed in next release. Thanks again.

TuneNet's file drop icon

Is it possible to fix TuneNet's icon so that it iconififes to a different spot on Workbench?

Like using the file drop feature but icon is always hidden by OWB when I want it. Looked through the TuneNet readme but none the wiser.

I use AllKeys which you may find useful as it will map extra keys, like volume controls, http://www.os4depot.net/index.php?fun ... =utility/misc/allkeys.lha

Well the reason is that once Timberwolf comes out, we would want the latest version of it. Updating the source code now to 3.6 and later to 4.0 is a waste of time, so we opted to go for 4.0 directly as the better alternative.

Makes good sense given time needed, look forward to it.

Random, but had an encouter with live Timberwolfs the other day at the safari park, didn't realise it was an actual species .

I see no reason for USB 3 development as there is no Amiga hardware with USB 3 ports and unless someone knows any different, I don't believe the X1000 or SAM460 are going to have them.

Support the technology in the OS and hardware developers will include it. It's a bit of a chicken and egg situation, which came first?

The X1000 should if it is going to be the 'future proof' investment it has been claimed to be.

USB3 is like Blu-Ray... pointless.

Once you've watched blu-ray on a suitable TV you won't want to go back to DVD. Simply as, the quality in terms of detail and colour is much better than DVD. Blu-ray players and discs have dropped in price significantly over the last year.

I'm sure people said USB2 was pointless and some proberbly still do but I really notice the lack of USB2 in AmigaOS, transfering files takes much longer.

Quote:

DVD sales are now down, I don't know about Blu-Ray sales, but like Music the future for video now lies in online/downloaded content as the hard drive has exceeded people's dreams and storage requirements and most importantly is dirty cheap.

Downloading music works becuase MP3s take less space and are a good portable format and there is demand for portable music and has been for a long time. But the demand for video is far less and always will be. Until we have a better broadband infrastructure in the UK, i.e. fibreoptic network, downloadable movies won't really be able to compete with blu-ray.

USB3 is important, current technologies are needed in AmigaOS so people take notice and while I enjoy using AmigaOS I would also like to be able to take advatage of the latest tech, the late 80s were great but I for one don't wish to be stuck in a perpetual technological time warp.

Add WINDOW=NIL: to the icon's tooltypes.

Thanks, have a few other programs I think I'll do the same with.

Once you fix "Run", it should do - unless your Ripper starts a separate task to do the encoding.

I suspect this may well be the case with ADRipper, I will see if SnoopDOS tcan shed some light.

Made a script to start ADRipper from an icon on Workbench, simply:

ChangeTaskPri -1
Run ADRipper

Opens ADRipper, however I'm left with a CLI output window to close, what do I add to stop this appearing? Take it this should do the trick with regards to giving other things priority like MPlayer?

Was only a suggestion, no need to be sarcastic. I am well aware that improving OWB's GUI is a low priority. There may well be elements of AWeb's GUI that may be very useful additions to OWB without bloating the program.

Keep up the good work, OWB is the best Amiga web browser I've ever used by far.

Or you'd have to downgrade the GUI of the AmigaOS 4.x OWB to MUI, but it's impossible to collect a bounty large enough for me to consider touching extreme crap like MUI ever again.

Always found MUI programs to be the least stable. For example, the Voyager browser was always problematic. Then there's the various MUI libs and making sure you have the latest or most stable for the various MUI programs you use, which is thankfully very few these days.

This may be a dumb question, but how do you go about this on AmigaOS? Presumably you could use AmiDVD to make a .iso and they write to a HD partition?

However, MPlayer won't play a video on the Workbench screen if I have the screen in 32 bit mode. And MilkyTracker has audio playback problems if run too big and Workbench is set to 32 bit, regardless of whether MilkyTacker is set to run in a window on WB or fullscreen. If Workbench is in 16 bit mode, MilkyTracker is fine all the way to the full 1920 x 1080.

No such problems here with MPlayer playing YouTube videos, although audio falls out of sink if doing something processor intensive at same time, like encoding MP3s. I'm using the same resolution and colour depth.

Quote:

I again booted the Sam from the installation DVD, and it's the same level of performance. The one thing I've done that has made an improvement was set interrupts to "YES" via the monitor ToolTypes.

Will try this myself.

Quote:

Interesting that Daniel reports similar performance with a 733mhz "complete system" from AmigaKit. So maybe it's the LiteOn DVD drive, assuming we have the same drive and others with better playback have a different model drive??? Of course, as mentioned, I've already ordered another copy of this drive so I'll have the drawer cover.

Media Toolbox shows the optical drive as an 'ATAPI iHAS124 Y'. Opened up the case and can't see any manufacturer labels.

I'm not sure that it is.

I have read that this system will not achieve 100 percent smooth DVD playback but that it should be "close." Mine is not even close. It stutters and skips to the point of being unwatchable. I'm using the latest registered version of DvPlayer. I really don't intend to use this computer for DVD playback as a routine, but I'm more concerned that various other video files do not play smoothly with DvPlayer or with MPlayer. No, I'm not attempting to play HD video files and don't expect that level of performance from the Sam.

My system is a 733MHZ "complete system" from AmigaKit. I am running OS4.1u2 and driving a 1920x1080 LCD screen at native resolution.

I have the exact same experience with my pre-built sam440 system fro amigakit. DVD playback is hopelessly slow and I don't undrstand why. I didn't expect to be able to play HD video, but a DVD should play ok on a system with this spec.

Have read through the comments on this thread and will be trying some of the suggestions.

I hope not, OWB is to very stable, fast and has a small footprint on OS4. It's still early days for Timberwolf an dit has yet to prove itself in my opinion.

What do y'all mean by a "Download Manager"? I'm using OWB on MorphOS and it's fantastic. When one downloads stuff a window appears showing the status of the download and everything. OWB shows more information about stuff than other browsers like Safari, IE, Firefox, etc. If OWB was on windows, It would probably be my main browser. I love that one second startup on my crappy eMac. OWB is one snappy little browser.

OWB is a great browser and I like it a lot. The OS4 version does not have the status/download window you described. Personally it's absence doesn't bother me much, but I can understand why it could be a nuisance, especially with a slower internet connection or dialup. It is pain sometimes when downloading a big file and forgetting, then closing OWB which cancels download without warning, you can't resume from where you left of.

Implementing a download manger is trivial and only takes a few minutes, plugins are supported already (there are just none). If they'd port for example libgnashplugin.so to AmigaOS 4.x it would work in both Timberwolf and OWB - for displaying some annoying flash ads you could only block again in Timberwolf with Add-Ons like NoScript and Adblock plus but not in OWB
(For most other things gnash isn't good enough.)

A fair point and most flash content is junk, but still flash would be nice for some websites like BBC iPlayer with embedded video and the like. There's ClipDown for YouTube which is a great tool but still built in flash is important.

Quote:
That doesn't make any sense since they would have less time for other projects. Implementing a complete web browser, which would be comparable to browsers like Firefox or Opera, around OWB from scratch would be much more work than porting an existing web browser like Firefox is.

Ok, can understand that logic. However, I think there is a case for 'starting from scratch' as maybe the end result could be more desirable, more 'Amiga-like' in it's feel, smaller footprint, original features maybe.

I have little programming knowledge, but is it feasible to use parts from AWeb, thinking bookmarking, download manager? Or possibly build the OWB rendering engine into AWeb?
